mogurnda October 29, 2014 October 29, 2014 (edited) Because they do this: http://youtu.be/hftEWpoxbPo These guys literally just decide to float around for a while, maybe a few times a day. Perfectly healthy slug, just going for a drift. After a few minutes, she slowly sank onto a patch of Bryopsis and started eating again. Imagine what would happen with a Vortec in the tank. It's kind of mesmerizing. Edited October 29, 2014 by mogurnda
mogurnda October 29, 2014 Author October 29, 2014 Might be good to put it on a loop when you are impaired.
zygote2k October 29, 2014 October 29, 2014 I was impaired when I made the comment. Good music though.
DuffyGeos October 30, 2014 October 30, 2014 They just act and move like they are on mushrooms anyway.
YHSublime October 30, 2014 October 30, 2014 They just act and move like they are on mushrooms anyway. Or maybe they've got it all worked out.... man.
mogurnda October 30, 2014 Author October 30, 2014 would they let go if they had the current though? I don't know. All I know is that these guys aren't very smart, and that people never have much luck with them in reef tanks. I am assuming that they use the drifting behavior to get them to new patches of algae, but maybe they are smart enough to stay put when there is a current. where do you guys get this music lol It's from the menu at YouTube. I just tried to find something that was a little spacy-groovy
dbartco October 30, 2014 October 30, 2014 Another hint, don't leave the "Solar Sea Slug Blog" up on your desktop when sharing your PC in a videoconference call. You'd think I had porn sleaze up there with all the ribbing I have taken!

I am assuming that they use the drifting behavior to get them to new patches of algae, but maybe they are smart enough to stay put when there is a current. I tried putting a few in a tank many years ago. They lasted less than a couple of days as I recall. I was pretty convinced at the time that they either drifted into a powerhead or went over an overflow and, ultimately, into a return pump. Now I'm even more convinced. <open scene: solar sea slug floating freely.> "Look. I'm flying! ..... What? Wait! Oh, Noooooooooooooooooooooo!" <fade to black.>
