I think I asked this before never got any answers. I am NOT stocking any time soon. Or adding all at once.

Looking thru live aqua in nano tanks I've come up with. Please add or remove fish. I wanna get this solid to avoid impulse buys. And once I'm stocked nothing new is going in ever, Ill have 50-60lbs of LR once cycled.

I want color and movement.

2 osc clowns.

Green chromis (it doesn't say if they school or how many would work)

1 citrinis clown goby.

(Can you put a yellow watchman goby with a clown goby?) if so one of those.

Peppermint shrimp. (I want sexy shrimp but I don't think I can have those?)

As many blue/red legged hermits I can have. I really like the hermits over the snails. Not gonna keep any glass cleaning snails I have arms I can clean glass myself lol.

And some sand sifters. Probably those Tiny little snorkeling snails.

I'd really like a ornamental fish. But I can't have any tangs or rabbits or file fish since I'm 30G

Feel free to arrange my fish to what would work. I want to avoid impulse buys and having fish that grow too big.

I really like the damsels but everyone and their mother say their vicious

Yes to everything on your list..and you could have sexy shrimp, but let me tell you in a 30g you probably won't see them..they are smaller than an pinky nail...and mine were canibalistic, lol well one and that's all it took!

So a few other ideas...Midas blenny, flasher wrasse or six line, though many people have said their 6lines are mean...

Also.. Personally I love my jawfish...and barnacle blennies are cool too...

And since your thinking no corals a Pygmy angel could be cool too!

Just some other fishy thoughts, not all plus your list of course but I did shove a lot in my 35g tank when I started, lol (which took me to the 150g I had before because everything kept growing, lol)

citron gobies are nice but they are SPS eaters.

green chromis will need more swimming room than a 30g tank.

pair o clowns, nem, and pair o shrimp would be excellent stocklist and keeps things in perspective.

red legs grow 3x as fast as blue legs and have a more carnivorous appetite. ceriths, nass, astrea all are eaten by crabs

crabs or snails in a 30- you pick.

snorkle snails are called nassarius.

damsels are nice® if kept in pairs or groups. Starckii Damsel pair is excellent choice but not with clowns.

color and movement will have to be from sessile inverts and an MP10.

Ok no green chromis or sexy shrimp. Ill stick with blue legged. Since I have 2 or 3 that hitch hiked in there. They seem fine no stress.

Deffinatly gonna have clowns since I already have one. I want to eventually get a huge tank. Like 200+ gallons how long would a hippo tang. Like bought at an inch or less be ok in a 30? Or not good at all?

how about a dedicated species tank? A single pair or sizable group of one particular type of fish. Looks unique and you can learn a lot about that particular species. They used to do this back in the day but reefs took over.

7 Royal Grammas

7 Chalk Bass

20 Citron Gobies

pair of 4 or 8 line wrasses

get a chiller or keep tank in cool location and get a dozen Catalina Gobies

pair of Mandarins

hit the forum with a splash and dare to do something different.

I would say unless you are already planning an upgrade a tang of any kind is a no...though they do stay small for a long time, in a year you may not be ready or willing to upgrade to that large of a tank...

I think 6ish of the fish you like...all being and staying relatively small could live happily in your little ecosystem...if you want a clown goby, when your ready I have a green one ive had for about a year...and I have to do something with..as he will most undoubtedly get lost in the 150g,lol

Honestly, I think your list looks great! I agree that the sexies are very, very tiny. They are super cute though!

Yes, Chromis school, but I think a single one would be fine in a 30 gallon with the list you have. I have found scarlet hermits to be better than red or blue legs in terms of leaving everyone alone. I don't know about the Halloweens but I hear they may be fine too.

Nassarius are the snorkeling snails. I have the little ones and the big Tongans. A few trochus are good all around snails for rocks and glass. Astreas are the ones that flip and can't usually right themselves. Ceriths are good too.

I have a clown goby and a pair of yellow watchmen and they are fine together. Its actually the clowns (ocellaris) that pick on the clown goby when he gets too close to them. My tank is pretty similar (46G) with 2 clowns, 2 yellow watchmen gobies, 1 yellow clown goby, 2 bangaii cardinal fish. I'd say ditch the chromis and go with a pygmy angel or maybe a wrasse (not a lot of choices for a 30g) and consider a big personality fish like a jaw fish, barnacle blenny, or longnose hawkfish.

If you want a tang, get a tang!  As fast as they sell on this forum you should have no problem rehoming it when it gets to big... if you have to!

I plan on going huge in spring. And I just saw yellow head jaws on YouTube their so cute and have personality I want one.

I think I cycled ? Unless I'm reading the color card wrong. I'm gonna take a bottle of water to petco down the street and double check. If I am indeed cycled. Do I do a water change ? Or just keep my water and start acclimating my clown?

45lbs of live rock. Dr Tim's. and some live sand mixed in with new dry sand.

Take care of your majanos and make sure your params stay steady before moving anything over. And watch for more hitchhikers. It's more stressful for the fish if you try to make adjustments once you put them in. It's hard to say a water change is advised because I can't remember when you put water in.

I would advise you start a new tank build thread. It would be a great way to keep track of dates and parameters so that everyone can watch it come together and threads don't get off topic.

Your first post could introduce all of your current equipment, and upgrades and stocking options, and current params.

I love my blue head pearly jawfish...

And on the cycle, you could be but I'd give it another week to see if all nitrites and nitrates are zero...even if your ammonia is already gone...

You have a lot of fish choices! It's so much fun thinking of a stock list....

Oh and think about doing all of your aquascape now before you move the clown over so you don't have to touch the rocks while he's in the new tank...

Hey josh check at the cycle thread in the general forum... Really solid advice in there. I'm personally following tony Vargas method waiting 60 to 90 days and just topping off water.

I totally agree. They sell really small hippos that are only 3/4" now. That would not outgrow your tank for a few years.

I would not suggest this because a 30g is a little small to me for a harem that size. Maybe a male and two females but seven is a little much. Make sure you start off with really small RG's or you are likely to get two or more males and they will fight.

Saw one at Quantum on Saturday, wasn't any bigger than the end of my thumb, cute little bugger.

you will be fine with that list.

2 clowns

for chromis, either green or the blue reef chromis ... you want odd numbers... wierd, but odd numbers always works better with them... so 3 should be fine

1 clown yellow or citron goby.

If you get a yellow clown, you might want to get another watchman goby such as a randalls or yasha since you don't want 2 yellow fish

I'm not much for peppermint shrimps.. i like the redness of a blood fire shrimp or a skunk cleaner shrimp.  I'd recommend a skunk cleaner since they are cool and also will help clean your fish

if you want a tang... go for it... start really small... like a tiny or x-small size... as it grows, either sell it or bring it in to exchange for small one... but based on what I see, you'll be upgrading to a much larger tank within a year and you can then transfer them to the larger tank.

if you want damsels... go with talbots or kupang damsels... they are not as aggressive as others... pretty tame in my opinion

take it slow and just be aware that your initial list might change based on how you see your tank developing.

If you get hermit crabs, get the blue leg ones... I had the red legged ones and they picked on my corals! Also make sure you buy enough empty shells (different sizes) for them since they outgrow their shells in no time.. I would say 2 shells per hermits..

The "snorkeling snails" are Nassarious snails and they are carnivours.... I only have one on my 22 gallon and it doesnt really move the sand that much, only when it wants to hide.. If you want the sand to be moved a lot get a conch snail.

If you buy a yellow watchman, get him a pistol shrimp since in nature they share a friendship relationship, they will always stay together....

I plan on going huge in spring. And I just saw yellow head jaws on YouTube their so cute and have personality I want one.

A yellowhead jawfish is an amazing fish.. I had one once and he was really fun to watch.. Just make sure you have a canopy or a net over your tank because they like to jump..

you will be fine with that list.

That's the weird thing with chromis. I always bought odd numbers, but end up with even. I have 2 in one tank thy have been a cool pair for a year and I have 4 in my larger tank that have been happy for about 6 months. Each case I lost 3 fish from the beginning.
