epleeds September 5, 2013 September 5, 2013 How much would u put in a reactor for 250 gallon system. And how often do u change it out.
lnevo September 5, 2013 September 5, 2013 I change every 6 weeks. I follow the brs directions. I started at 1/2 the recommended and increased to full over 2-3 media changes.
surf&turf September 5, 2013 September 5, 2013 How low are you trying to get your phosphates and what are they now?
epleeds September 5, 2013 Author September 5, 2013 Never tested for them. I just know when the GFO is expended, I get more algae build up on the glass. I normally run two cups In a reactor and change it out every three weeks. Just wondering if that's enough or if I need more or change it out every two weeks.
surf&turf September 5, 2013 September 5, 2013 If your coral color is good, you are probably spot on. I run a cup on my 90 and was changing it every 2 weeks. My phosphates were down to 0.003 so I've been letting them increase a little and the SPS are coloring back up. So far its at .028 so I'll probably change mine over the weekend. This will be 4 weeks since I changed mine. Natural seawater runs around .050
gmerek2 September 5, 2013 September 5, 2013 I quit mine for a couple weeks as an experiment and the tiny spot of GHA expanded to other rocks lol I got it back up and running quick. Keep her goin good
Gadgets September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 You should buy a Hanna phosphate colorimeter. Otherwise you have no idea of where you are, where your going and if your there. I use about 1.5 cups for a 93g cube and change when needed. Usage will vary per tank so change schedule will vary as well.
epleeds September 6, 2013 Author September 6, 2013 K. Will look into one of those. Also do u run it in a reactor or in a filter bag in the sump.
epleeds September 6, 2013 Author September 6, 2013 He just sold me the phosphorus meter... haha Yea I know. It looked real familiar when I looked it up on amazon.
Gadgets September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure u want the Hanna PHOSPHATE Checker not phosphorous.
Gadgets September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 Also, running it in a fluidized reactor is best. Just needs a very slight tumble.
BowieReefer84 September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 (edited) you want phosphorus, not phosphate... origami can explain it better than I can. This is a good explanation: Edited September 6, 2013 by BowieReefer84
Origami September 7, 2013 September 7, 2013 Better resolution with the Phosphorus ULR meter. Better in the range that we test. There's a conversion to get to phosphate but it's easy. I think that there's a chart available that I posted here somewhere.... I'm on my phone though. Maybe somebody can find it? Sent from my phone

Origami September 7, 2013 September 7, 2013 Here's the thread with the chart http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?/topic/54085-Lookup-Tables-for-Hanna-Checkers Sent from my phone
BowieReefer84 September 7, 2013 September 7, 2013 Good call on finding that thread. I searched, but couldn't. I need to print another copy of that chart out.
