mling April 16, 2013 April 16, 2013 The replacement MaxiJet 1200 on my AquaC Remora is a lot nosier than the previous one. Read some where that it is due to the back flow of the current MaxiJet 1200. I also read that the Cobalt 1200 does not have that noise problem. Has any one used this Cobalt 1200 on their Remora and not have a noise issue ?
Origami April 16, 2013 April 16, 2013 The Cobalt 1200 is the original Maxijet 1200, I think. The newer maxijets are made by Marineland, so it's not unlikely that the two designs are slightly different these days. I can't say much about the noise or back flow issues.
Der ABT April 16, 2013 April 16, 2013 the new marineland ones are not as good, rattle and make alot more noise if you ask me, best ones i have are the old ones with the black label for the 1200. unfortunately the magnets are different, the marineland ones are larger, i still have a bunch of old motors that work but the impellers are the tough ones to find and justify buying new ones of.
mling April 16, 2013 Author April 16, 2013 OK, looks like you guys just confirmed what I have read. I'm buying the Cobalt to replace my Maxi Jets. This would appear to be another case of "no longer made like to used to make them"
matt April 16, 2013 April 16, 2013 Yeah, manufacturing went from Italy to China...Italian guys now do Cobalt
jackers April 16, 2013 April 16, 2013 I bought a maxijet 1200 and a cobalt 1200 within two weeks of each other. I only use them for water changes (one in the sump to pump out, and one in the mixing bucket to pump new saltwater back into the sump) and definitely prefer the cobalt. It seems to be more quiet to me.

I'll update every one when I get the Cobalts, to see it really does not have the back flow noise problem.
mling April 19, 2013 Author April 19, 2013 Received the 2 Cobalts today. What a difference, totally quiet when hooked up to my Remora Box says Made in Italy, via Rock Hill, South Carolina ! So does anyone want to buy 2 lightly used MaxiJet 1200 ? Works fine as a power head, just not for skimmers due to backflow.

Gatortailale April 19, 2013 April 19, 2013 Yeah, manufacturing went from Italy to China...Italian guys now do Cobalt Yup - confirmed this at MACNA last year - 3 of the marineland employees left them & started Cobalt when marineland shifted manufacturing to china. The fellas behind Cobalt didn't want to stand behind a product made in new location. Good guys with Cobalt - I have known one of the guys running it since 2005 when we hosted MACNA.
matt April 19, 2013 April 19, 2013 Interesting how manufacturing moves and the quality people sometimes don't. MJs, Oceanic Tanks...
