BowieReefer84 August 10, 2012 August 10, 2012 I have to move tank to basement, and there is a landing/90* turn halfway down. Can I stand the tank up on the carpeted stair landing? I am just trying to figure this out. I really want to just wrap it in a blanket and throw it on a hand cart with straps? Thoughts?
epleeds August 10, 2012 August 10, 2012 I wouldn't put it on a hand cart. You should be fine if your just setting it down to re-adjust it.
extreme_tooth_decay August 10, 2012 August 10, 2012 I put a blanket on the bottom of the hand cart so it is well cushioned, then stand it up. Have done this with a 125 several times.

It's not that it is TOO heavy, just awkward. I found a tip to have a piece of plywood, stand tank up on that, and slide dolly under wood. Strap it and move it.
flooddc August 10, 2012 August 10, 2012 If you are doing it by yourself. Then, I'd use the hand cart and blanket. If you have help, slide it down to the landing and turn.
BowieReefer84 August 10, 2012 Author August 10, 2012 I have another guy, but it would be hard to carry it upright around the turn in the stairs. Handcart it is.
epleeds August 10, 2012 August 10, 2012 I have the clubs suction cups if u want to come get them this weekend. The make moving a tank very easy
Ryan S August 10, 2012 August 10, 2012 I put my old 135g on the side a couple times during the move. I think the tanks can handle that.

Steve175 August 12, 2012 August 12, 2012 Mike: Shoot me a PM if you need a hand (free untrained labor). I have also stood tanks on end with no issue. Obviously make sure that weight is widely distributed (focal pressure from wadded padding could be a problem)
dmatt56 August 12, 2012 August 12, 2012 We moved my 180 down my basement stays that has 2 turns. We had to rest it briefly on both landings. The tank did support the weight. Matt
