I took my out-of-town parents to the Cherry Blossom festival this weekend, and had to stop by the Natural History Museum and snap some pics. Some of the corals are growing quite large.

The clownfish have laid a clutch of eggs on the clams shell, in the shadow of the mantle.

Nice shots of the vlamingii!

I was there yesterday playing tour guide too and we ran into the museum during a rain shower. The tank does still look very nice.

Did you look at the crochet coral reef? I must admit that last summer when they started that project, I was more than a little skeptical and didn't see how it could possibly look like anything remotely resembling a reef.

Wow, was I ever wrong - corals, sponges, sea stars, urchins, a "swim-through" arched reef formation. I think it is awesome.

Oh yeah, and the tank is looking great too. :)

Cheers

Mike

Man, I need to take a walk through there!

It is within walking distance from my house, yet it has been 12 years since I have been. I think I have something to do this weekend!

Great shots, Jon! Thanks for sharing :)

I went a few weeks ago. The crochet reef was awesome. They used almost everything. I never thought DC's and old tape from cassettes could be made into something looking so realistic.

The hyperbolic coral reef exhibit (crochet stuff) is only up through April 24 so if you want to see it, now is the time.

  • 1 year later...

I was there on tuesday and thought the tank looked great. Almost all the corals looked very healthy, and the fish all looked to be very fat and happy. However, I do think the tank could use some more cool fish in it.
