Water storage Question

I was thinking of setting up an rodi unit and using a 30- 50 gallon brute trash can to hold the water. Is there anything that i need to do with the "new" trash can prior to filling it with water?

You can rinse it out well with water. I use a garden hose.

I'm in the same situation as you. I've got a couple sitting in my basement that I'm going to use. I'll probably use my trusty garden hose to rinse it out well (don't know if the use of vinegar will make a difference, but I may use it as well). Also, I'll use something to measure the water in it so I can have an estimation of where a particular volume actually is in the can (for the one that I'll use for the saltwater mix, of course).

Provided that it looks clean, I just rinse it well with a hose and let it air dry thoroughly before use.
