El Camaron February 18, 2009 February 18, 2009 Hey fello reefers, i am new to this site and still a bit new to the hobby, i started with a 29 gallon biocube around March 08 which did great, in August 08 i decided to set up a 65 gallon tank and within a few months of that set up i decided to go back to a smaller tank which is the solana i have now. I run a TEK T5 24" fixture, stock skimmer and a bag of chemipure, kalk is added though the JBJ ATO and do 5 gallon water changes every week using seachem salt.
jamesbuf February 18, 2009 February 18, 2009 Nice start you've got going. Tagging along for updates......
bamainva February 18, 2009 February 18, 2009 Very nice...looks great. What made you decide to downsize? I currently have two 29g biocubes and thinking of upgrading soon. Mike
Hilary February 19, 2009 February 19, 2009 You've got some NICE stuff in there! Full tank shot, please!
El Camaron February 19, 2009 Author February 19, 2009 Thanks for the complements, i downsized because i wanted to put tile on my whole fist floor and i did about two months after the 65 was set up but for me to be able to finish the job i had to dismantle the tank and move it and so well i took the opportunity to create more room in my home and found a better spot for a decent size tank. Also the maintenance time and money was less. not the best shots i was bored and decided to create a rack that would use up the back wall space
st9z February 19, 2009 February 19, 2009 Hey Camaron, Very nice tank! Which chamber are you puting the ATO in? Chamber 3? thanks, NIKI
El Camaron February 19, 2009 Author February 19, 2009 thanks NIKI, I did not use the stock bottles as ATO because they just did not work for me, originally those go in the 3rd chamber but the way i have my set up is i have a 4 gallon bucket ( one pictured underneath the DIY frag rack) and from there i have a small pump that goes to the fist chamber that way the skimmer stays at the same level for better performance.
st9z February 23, 2009 February 23, 2009 thanks NIKI, I did not use the stock bottles as ATO because they just did not work for me, originally those go in the 3rd chamber but the way i have my set up is i have a 4 gallon bucket ( one pictured underneath the DIY frag rack) and from there i have a small pump that goes to the fist chamber that way the skimmer stays at the same level for better performance. Very cool. Another question, how much evaporation is it under T5?
El Camaron February 23, 2009 Author February 23, 2009 definitely not as much as when i had MH on the previous tank, i dont notice it much since i now have the ATO working but i would say about 5 gallos every 2 to 3 weeks.
reefmontalvo February 24, 2009 February 24, 2009 You have a very nice setup. And WOW 5 gallons every 2-3 weeks. I go thru 5 gallons in two days but I also run 2 250w MH and I leave my top open on the 75 gallon.
jason the filter freak February 24, 2009 February 24, 2009 very very nice tank. Two questions 1. What kind of anem is that? 2. what are those all red zoos called? they're not kredd zoos are they?
El Camaron February 24, 2009 Author February 24, 2009 Thanks guys. The anemone is a green bubble tip and the zoas i am not really sure what they are but they are sweet, as Bob (rocko) he got a few now.
El Camaron February 25, 2009 Author February 25, 2009 I think the orange palys are passion fruit palys, not sure but they look close. WWC has a picture of them. http://www.worldwidecorals.com/proddetail....ssionfruitpalys
rocko918 February 25, 2009 February 25, 2009 that was just the boring old standard lens that comes with a canon rebel. I do have a macro lens that i will shoot a shot of the coral once it settles in nicely. Stay tuned for that one!!!
El Camaron February 26, 2009 Author February 26, 2009 nice, i just got a hold of a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 macro but my pictures don't come out that good.
rocko918 February 26, 2009 February 26, 2009 I have the 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens that takes great shots.
El Camaron February 26, 2009 Author February 26, 2009 thats a very nice lens, i wish i could afford it. I got a deal i couldnt refuse on the Sigma so i didnt LOL.
spankythepyro February 26, 2009 February 26, 2009 lovin the zoo and acan garden!!! Have you seen rainbow aussie acans yet?
El Camaron February 26, 2009 Author February 26, 2009 yes i have, they are on the 9th picture. They are super colorfull and just ended up trading one of those frags for a nice chalice.
spankythepyro February 26, 2009 February 26, 2009 oo i haven't seen them under acintics thats why I didn't pick up on them! I saw a frag up on ebay awhile ago around $200 :(. I can't wait for the day when I can have sps and lps in my tank :(
El Camaron February 26, 2009 Author February 26, 2009 lps and zoas you should be ok to start soon, for some reason the thrive in not so pristine water, now sps you will have to keep up on your parameters more as well as water changes and maybe dosing calcium, magnesium and others.
spankythepyro February 26, 2009 February 26, 2009 yea all my paras are at 0 atm, I do 10-20% weekly water changes since the tank is such a small volume... the only thing keeping me from going sps is the lighting requirement, 72w of pc is not nearly enough lol
