L8 2 RISE January 5, 2009 January 5, 2009 I plan on using a 6x or 8x tek fixture on my tank and haven't seen a bad review yet...
sturnmeyer January 5, 2009 January 5, 2009 I have 2 different Tek fixtures and love them both. The 24" 4 bulb and the 48" 8 bulb. Worth every penny. Scott
amay121 January 5, 2009 January 5, 2009 Depends on your budget. There are quite a few manufacturers that have great T5 fixtures now.
Neilan January 5, 2009 January 5, 2009 I love my TEKs. But Catalinaaquariums.com has a system that is very good quality, very simliar, and much cheaper than TEKs.
txaggies07 January 5, 2009 January 5, 2009 (edited) I have the same tank and was thinking of using the Nova Extreme SLR T-5 http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...fm?pcatid=16770 This is my lower budget tank though. The light costs about $185. I don't have the light, but I have had the Nova Extreme 4x54W on my 72g and I currently have the Nova Extreme Pro 6x54W on my 120g. I was very happy with both. jason the filter freak January 5, 2009 January 5, 2009 retro kit was my choice 6 T5 bulbs with SLR/Ice Cap reflectors sit side by side perfectly over the tank.
mling January 5, 2009 January 5, 2009 I just installed my retro-fit T-5s over the holidays. The best place I found was -> http://www.aquacave.com/searchresult.aspx?CategoryID=129. I needed six 48" bulbs for my 60" wide. Ended up with 2 from TEK with a WorkHorse ballast and 4 from Icecap. I prefer the ones I got from Icecap. Bought these long ago, before knowing the "discount" we can now get from Icecap
Smoothtriqueter January 5, 2009 Author January 5, 2009 The thing with retro is that I have no hood so it would involve some slight construction. Budget is on the low end but I would also be willing to spend a bit more to get what I want. I will have the lights on my 65g tall at first than i will be using them on a 40g breeder so the depth wont be as great.
Big Country January 5, 2009 January 5, 2009 I have a Tek fixture on my tank, it is a dependable and good fixture. If you want better get the Aquatinics TX5 or a ATI powermodule fixture.
DDiver January 5, 2009 January 5, 2009 The Aquactinics TX5 is an excellent fixture. before switching over to halides I ran the Aquatinics Tx5..would highly reccommend it..
Smoothtriqueter January 5, 2009 Author January 5, 2009 before switching over to halides I ran the Aquatinics Tx5..would highly reccommend it.. I think I would need to go used on either teks or these to keep within realistic budget, other options like the nova looked like good deals but tek and the aquatinics look better.
