capsfan December 12, 2008 December 12, 2008 I have to buy some salt tomorrow. What should I get? If it's not on the poll submit below please.
extreme_tooth_decay December 12, 2008 December 12, 2008 (edited) I use Oceanic because it dissolves fast. I see it's been snubbed and un-snubbed from the poll. Edited December 13, 2008 by extreme_tooth_decay
lhcorals December 12, 2008 December 12, 2008 Tropic Marin Pro is what i use. What ever you choose, if it's not the same as you already use make the change over very slowly. Their is a couple of people i know that did the change to fast and lost alot of coral. Unless you are having a problem i would stay with what you are using. Hope this helps.
jamal December 13, 2008 December 13, 2008 unless you are having a problem maintaining something or you need a cheaper salt IO isfine. i use red sea coral pro after i read the awt salt study because reef crystals was inconsistent and have very high alk. coral pro has very low alk which is good for me because i dose kalk so its starts at around 7 dkh and ends up at 10. good luck
treesprite December 13, 2008 December 13, 2008 Find me one that reduces nitrates... bob invent some, I'm sure you'll make millions on it. I'll be your best custonmer. Epsom for me. You're joking, right?
CHUBAKAH December 13, 2008 December 13, 2008 None of the above I use Crystal Sea Bio-Assay. It's made in Baltimore, is very good salt, and it's priced very good.
Highland Reefer December 13, 2008 December 13, 2008 (edited) IMHO, there is little difference in your salt mixes in general, except for the concentrations of calcium, alkalinity and magnesium. I would pick a salt mix that will supply them as needed by the consumption of your system. Many hobbyists pick a salt mix that will supply too high a calcium, alk. or magnesium concentration and this results in throwing off their entire system. I personally use Instant Ocean and supplement the calcium and magnesium with a do it yourself mix. This is the cheapest method in my opinion. Here is a list of many of the commonly used salt mixes and their concentrations: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...mp;pagenumber=1 Edited December 13, 2008 by Highland Reefer
capsfan December 14, 2008 Author December 14, 2008 None of the aboveI use Crystal Sea Bio-Assay. It's made in Baltimore, is very good salt, and it's priced very good. I got this. Thanks guys.
www.fishnreef.com December 14, 2008 December 14, 2008 Used I/O exclusively. Did some reading. Some aquarist seem to mix brands. Swapped over to Crystal Bioassay. Everything is alive from the swapover.....so I'm figuring out any problems come from my own reefkeeping.
www.fishnreef.com December 14, 2008 December 14, 2008 Ummn..I see, it's not even listed in the poll...
www.fishnreef.com December 14, 2008 December 14, 2008 Darn....I see that I'll have to do a Jason FF spam attack to get to my old level of posts!!!!! nrehman
