Siphoning out a sump

Does anyone have any suggestions for siphoning out a sump that is under a tank on the floor? I can't seem to get a siphon going to clean it out.

connect some tubing onto a maxi jet..that might work..

Hook one of these up to the intake of a maxijet, then hook up a hose to the outflow and have it go to your bucket or even better, outside somewhere. This is how I do water changes, and I'm able to get most of the detritus buildup out of my sump with the loc-line attachment. Works great.

connects to kitchen faucet and will suck up the water and then down the drain

I do it all the time.

I just start a siphon and run it into a bucket. When the bucket water level reaches the sump water level it stops.

If you run your sump really low as a rule, allow it to back fill some so it's water level is higher.

If you want really low tech, use a turkey baster. Works for me.

I have tried using the python in my sump but for some reason it won't work.

 

I will try the duck bill on a maxi jet though. That will work.

My turkey baster is my siphon-starter. Stick the end of a tube in the water, stick the end of the turkey baster in the other end of the tubing. Pull away the baster and there's a nice siphon going. Actually, that's also how I empty my skimmer cup but using airline tubing.

I emptied my sump last night to replace it. I just used a m1200 with flexible tubing on either end. Took about 10 mins to empty a ~25g
