I just bought a Kent Marine ProScraper for removing algae off the glass. It does not work. Am I doing something wrong or did I waste my money.

The longer the handle the less effective it is due to bending. Also, if the blade is red, it's the softer, less effective one used for acrylic.

You should look into a razor blade attachment for a mag float if you want something easy and effective.

i just use a razor blade for glass and only do it when i like the cool sensation of a rather large sailfin tang nipping at every part of my arm....she isnt territorial ...just always hungry...she will eat out of my fingers

there was a thread a while back and the end result was to replace the plastic rod with a solid aluminum rod toreduce the flex in the scraper..

also if you take a pvc pipe and cut an angle to hold the razor blade in it it works well too.

Is this what you are referring to:

I just received this razor cleaner in the mail. They do not include any directions. I assume that I should attach it with silicon, since I could later remove it if necessary. Any impute on what I should use for glue or how to adjust it will be appreciated. If anyone has any interest in my long handle cleaner, I will let it go cheap.

I went on the website for Oceansmotions.com & they recommended using pvc glue & few others for installing the razor algae scraper attachment to the MagFloat. I used the pvc glue which works great. I used this thing for the 1st time today. The only thing I can say is that this scraper is the best thing that came out since I started doing aquariums. Many thanks Jason.

By the way, Oceansmotions is coming out with a new device which incorporates a magnetic float of their own. It is a low profile model. They are saying it will be out in the fall.

Thanks for the update Cliff. I'm not entirely satisfied with my long handled scraper either and have been following your thread. The Oceans Motion scraper and this EasyBlade scraper attachment at Premium Aquatics (http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=EB-SA-G&Category_Code=Algaecleaners) have both gotten my attention as a consequence of your discussion. It's nice to know that OM is coming out with a low profile version because that's my primary concern about their design. The concern I have with the EasyBlade is that it's performance may not be up to snuff.

Does anybody out there with the EasyBlade care to comment on its performance?

I have all lengths of the Kent scrapers with the stainless steel blades (glass tanks only). What I did was wet sanded the edges of the supplied blades and sharpened them up alot. In the end, even the encrusted algae comes off easily and the blade is 3" wide, covers alot of ground quick.
