tygger June 16, 2008 June 16, 2008 Should be easy to remove since they can't retract back into a rock.
tonkadawg June 16, 2008 June 16, 2008 yeah get rid of them while they're easy to get to - once they spread to the rock, it can be difficult.
extreme_tooth_decay June 16, 2008 June 16, 2008 Should be easy to remove since they can't retract back into a rock. Be careful if you try. Don't try to scrape them with a razor blade or anything like that, or you'll be sorry. I have some in my overflow (and my sump) and I just leave them there. They are well known to be water polishers, and they just don't seem to spread to my display. On the very rare occasions I see a small one in my display, I just nuke it with Joe's juice. tim
reefmontalvo June 16, 2008 June 16, 2008 I had some hitchhike on some live rocks. Now there just about extinct in my tank due to some peperment shrimp, they love to dine on those little buggers. I recently saw a huge on in my sump I then removed the darn thing. Extreme_tooth_decay is correct they are great water polishers, they are filter feeders so they help keep the nitrates low but they will also sting everything in the tank.
treesprite June 16, 2008 June 16, 2008 I found a rock with one on it in my tank so I turned the rock upside down.. it somehow found it's way to the now-topside of the rock and had a second one with it. That rock went in the sump, not even the fuge.
gmubeach June 16, 2008 June 16, 2008 I have peppermint shirmp in my refugium for that reason I use joes juice and seachem(seachem was bought first and is not as good)
reefmontalvo June 17, 2008 June 17, 2008 I set a peppermint shrimp in the refugium. Then later after all aptasia was gone I bought more and sent them on a mission to the main tank. I rather have them be natural way of clearing the tank of the varments.
gmubeach June 17, 2008 June 17, 2008 Something out competes or eats mine thats the only reason I use joes juice!
reefmontalvo June 17, 2008 June 17, 2008 Something out competes or eats mine thats the only reason I use joes juice! You have something eating your peppermint shrimp? Well the only thing I can suggest is you go to BRK and buy like 5 of those guys. That way they eat it all up in the tank and sump before they go extinct in your tank.
gmubeach June 17, 2008 June 17, 2008 yes I thought it was my cleaner shirmp but everyone insisted its not! It could be alot of things, but I don't have any asptia anymore!
jason the filter freak June 17, 2008 June 17, 2008 That is an awesome shot, they'd be fine in the overflow if they don't block the overflow teeth and don't spread into the tank.
squiddly June 17, 2008 Author June 17, 2008 That is an awesome shot, they'd be fine in the overflow if they don't block the overflow teeth and don't spread into the tank. Thanks. They haven't spread yet. I'm hoping they don't. They're kinda big for peppermint shrimp to eat, so I don't think that's an option.
YBeNormal June 17, 2008 June 17, 2008 I still suggest nuking them. If they get bumped, scraped or otherwise come loose, they will be all over your tank and they usually pick the absolute worst places to call home.
squiddly June 18, 2008 Author June 18, 2008 I still suggest nuking them. If they get bumped, scraped or otherwise come loose, they will be all over your tank and they usually pick the absolute worst places to call home. I may do that. They're just so pretty. *sigh*
gmubeach June 18, 2008 June 18, 2008 Joes juice does a great job alot of people have home made cheaper recipes!
lanman June 18, 2008 June 18, 2008 I may do that. They're just so pretty. *sigh* Yeah... they can be quite lovely: bob
reefmontalvo June 18, 2008 June 18, 2008 Yeah... they can be quite lovely: bob That looks like a field of death to a fish. How good are they at keeping things polished?
