I have had this Pink Birdsnest for quite sometime now, but it looks like it is starting to bleach from the center out! Does anyone know what might be causing this? Should I frag it or leave it?

I would frag it just in case...

I say dont frag it unless it keeps bleaching. That way when it comes back it grows over the dead coral and recover quicker than growing new branches

what are your parameters? What is the flow like?

82 degrees

1.025

0-low Nitrate

All my other SPS are growing awesome.

I have a powerhead right near the birdsnest, are you thining there may be too much flow?

Pix of the birdnest and its surrounding area.

what about alk/calcium? It could be too much or too little depending on orientation of the pump.

OK, just retested.

Calcium 380

Alk: 9

pH: 8.12 (still early; typically gets to 8.3 once the MH kicks on)

STN from the bottom is fairly common. I would frag off a nice piece from an inconspicuous place, just in case - and then keep watching. Do you have Softies in the tank? I can't seem to grow birdsnest or stylophora in my frag tank along with the softies. Almost all of the other SPS coral does fine in there.

I have a pink birdsnest the size of my head. The coral in the center gets chocked out (as it does in nature) and seems to die off in small "waves." These may corilate to some swing in water quality or something, but the coral does fine.

How big is it? Is the center / bottom getting light and flow?

jeemanies christmas Phil, what size tank is that monster thing in?

I go with shading from itself combind with lower than needed flow.

BN's need to have good flow all around them, but not pointed at them unless it's from a good distance.

It's about the size of my hand. Ive redirected a powerhead and now has flow all over it from a distance. Hopefully it helps! I love this piece of coral.

I really liked that piece as well Eric. Hopefully everything goes well, and if you need someone to help grow out a piece of the frag, let me know because I'm ready to roll now in the 90g. :)

I'll snip off a piece for ya when you come over Friday.

Well my head is XXL, so the coral takes up about half of my 180.
