scott711 December 3, 2007 December 3, 2007 I am trying to build a fish/wrasse fence and can't really find any information on how someone actually built it. I currently have mesh netting that I was going to use. I want to install it vertically around the rim of the tank, but I am not sure how to attach the rods to the frame of the tank. Thoughts? Thanks, Scott
jason the filter freak December 3, 2007 December 3, 2007 drill small holes in the fram of the tank, very small
flowerseller December 3, 2007 December 3, 2007 Why vertical? Make a removable screen frame. You're kidding yourself if you use pond cover mesh and think you're blocking too much light.
discretekarma December 3, 2007 December 3, 2007 Instead of drilling anything, why don't you use the plastic egg crate and just cut it the size of the openings and sit it on there. I don't think you have to drill anything and it should have small enough holes to keep a wrasse it. They sell it at Home Depot for $10 for a 4' x 8' sheet.

I thought it would be easier to build something vertical. What did you build the frame out of? I have a semi open top. with the hood covering the majority and the front and back are open. The back has returns that prevent me from laying anything completly flat.
discretekarma December 3, 2007 December 3, 2007 If you just want something verticle to cover the opening in the back you can probably still use eggcrate. You can probable use eggcrate. Either way though you don't really need a frame. You can just cut it down to size and put it over the opening and you're done. I thought it would be easier to build something vertical. flowerseller December 3, 2007 December 3, 2007 Hey Scott, I've got some heavy plastic mesh you would be able to use for that. Call me later tonight and we can talk measurements (of the mesh) to see if I have enough. What the game plan if the fish lands on something hot in the hood and sticks?

Call me later tonight and we can talk measurements (of the mesh) to see if I have enough. What the game plan if the fish lands on something hot in the hood and sticks? Chip sent you a PM. There isn't a way a fish could land on something hot. My lights are too high. If you just want something verticle to cover the opening in the back you can probably still use eggcrate. I would just need a long piece and then a way to make a small section for feeding that wouldn't fall into the tank.
flowerseller December 3, 2007 December 3, 2007 I'll send you the info but incase I forget to mention it, use the pink zip ties, they're stronger.
