Guest Bemmer May 30, 2007 May 30, 2007 Hey guys, I bought two beautiful millis from Chris yesterday during his tank breakdown. They both had great polyp extension in his tank...and after I acclimated them into my tank. But today both millis have very little polyp extension. The teal/orange milli is up high under the 400W 10K XM bulb and the blue milli is down lower under the 250w bulbs. I also have two other millis in my tank and their polyps are extending nicely. Should I just assume that the new millis are just still adjusting/acclimating to their new home or is it something else that I need to consider???? Thanks for the millis experts out there. BTW...did you like my title??? Rebecca
jamal May 30, 2007 May 30, 2007 the glue i used for my milli wouldnt set right so it was out of the water for a while and the lights were off when i put it back in and the polyps were still out so thats strange as all my corals polyps were out before the lights went out on monday.
dandy7200 May 30, 2007 May 30, 2007 Did you acclimate them to your stong lights? I think Jason is on the right track. Chris ran 20k XM 250w halides, so I would lower them to the bottom of the tank and slowly move them up over the course of a few weeks.
jamal May 30, 2007 May 30, 2007 chris has 250 watt lights also but maybe the change in color temp didnt agree with them
Almon May 30, 2007 May 30, 2007 I picked up a Pink Milli and a Teal Sarmentosa from Chris and both appear to doing well. I have 175w 10Ks and put the corals about 12" below the surface. The Sarmentosa polyps are extended more than the Millipora. I have also observed these corals without any lights and with only 12K PCs and the Millipora polyps appear to be extended more during low or no light than with the 10K Metal Halides on. All is well so far. Both are beautiful corals.....
scott711 May 30, 2007 May 30, 2007 I would say it is lighting too. They are not used to the intensity of the 400 watters. Bring them down and work your way back up with them. Mine are all doing well under the same lighting.
Guest Bemmer May 30, 2007 May 30, 2007 btw, hate the title, makes me re-live college... Sound familiar...my friend. Thanks, all. I have moved both pieces down to the sandbed for now. I did have them up higher under the 400w bulbs. The other SPS corals I got look great. I will post pics on my thread later today. Rebecca
ctenophore May 31, 2007 May 31, 2007 Make sure they get blasted with random, alternating flow. Moving colonies is always very stressful; they grow to fit their flow and light patterns. Flow IMO is probably more important than light for most sps, especially when moving colonies. Expect them to brown out a bit before they recolor under their new lights. Justin
Guest Bemmer May 31, 2007 May 31, 2007 Well, I moved the two millis down to the sand bed but neither one has really opened up very well. I believe there is good chaotic water movement in this area based on where my tunzes are placed in the tank. I certainly hope I have not doomed these two beautiful frags....but it has only been two days. Crossing my fingers.
