krish October 1, 2004 Share October 1, 2004 Folks, I see that hellolights has the ARO VHO 2 lamp ballast for about $35. They are also throwing in for free 2 pairs of endcap mounts.Thats a $10 value. The 3 piece endcaps are like $10 a pair. The 48" super actinic lamps are like $15 each. I figure it will be about say $85 for a 2 lamp VHO setup, not accounting for the cost of shipping and wires etc. I emailed hello lights to see if they will offer free shipping or any discounts on club purchases. They have asked me to call and discuss over the phone. I will post a followup after my conversation with them. Now does anyone else want to order anything else from them. The more $ amount we can tally up, the more they might be inclined to cut us a deal. Either way, they are one of our club sponsors. Please let me know. thanks krish

krish October 8, 2004 Author Share October 8, 2004 Folks, I checked with Hello Lights on potential discounts on a pool order. I was informed that once we are able to detail the items that we wish to purchase, they will be able to furnish the discounts. The reason quoted was that their profit margins are different on different items and hence will be able to give better numbers when they see our items/quantities thanks krish

krish October 9, 2004 Author Share October 9, 2004 Hello all, It appears that so far we are looking at ARO VHO Ballast ( 2 lamp setup ) - 2 ( Krish, Michael) - $35 x 2 = $70 VHO Endcap mounts ( 2 pairs Free per ballast ) - FREE VHO Lamps ( 48" long ) - 2 ( Krish) - $15.50 x 2 = $31 VHO Lamps ( 24" long) - 2 ( Michael) $18 x2 = $36 VHO Lamps ( 36" long) - 3 ( craby - luke) - $19 x 2 = $38 MH Lamp ( 400W 10K XM ) - 1 ( Michael) - $69 VHO Lamp ( end caps ) - 4 pairs ( Krish, Michael) - $9.75 x 4 = $39 (Item Code: 96-53103)-30" 2x65W Coralife Aqualight CF hood, 2x 50/50 (Act/10K), -Straight Pin: $128.00 ( weaponX ) (Item Code: #62-53099)-Mounting Legs for the Coralife, which would be: $6.95 ( WeaponX) Order total so far - $417.95 --------------------- Note - Michael and Luke, There are cheaper VHO lamp options. The URI is expensive. The Aqua D is cheaper. The only downside is that the Aqua D does NOT have the internal reflector. But spectrum wise, they claim to be the same. michaelg October 9, 2004 Share October 9, 2004 Let me have 1 of the cheaper ones and one URI. I'm going to need to see how they fit in the canopy, and it's possible that I might be better off without the reflectors. Actinic O3 on both please

krish October 9, 2004 Author Share October 9, 2004 Scott, I was about to order a week ago,but am holding off till we get a decent discount. So i would assume say the next couple of weeks. But, if folks would like to get it sooner, then we can set a real deadline. The only reason i want to give it more time is for more folks to chip in and the bigger the order, i guess we might see a better discount. Please feel free to provide feedback. thanks krish
krish October 12, 2004 Author Share October 12, 2004 We are at over $400 or so. Probabaly will get one more VHO setup order request from another local. Anyone else? -krish
xeon October 12, 2004 Share October 12, 2004 krish, Would the items be drop shipped or shipped direct to individuals?
krish October 12, 2004 Author Share October 12, 2004 Dave, Good question. It appears that it will be drop shipped as a single shipment. I can receive the shipment and co-ordinate the collection. Hellolights specifically mentioned about this. My take is that, doing a single shipment cuts costs from the vendors standpoint. -krish
HowardofNOVA October 12, 2004 Share October 12, 2004 Krish, I would like to add: Qty 1 Item Code: 10-54022 48" (VHO, T12) Actinic 03, 110W -Coralife $21.95. Plan on adding with my 250w MH when I get it hooked up for my 90g soon. ALSO: ]]]hlp Also, I have a 10g tank at my office that I want to upgrade the lighting system, Will this work or suggestions?: Qty 1 Item Code: 48-48002 13W Compact Fluorescent Ballast Kit $15.00 plus add Qty 1 13w 50/50 Actinic 03/10,000k P/N# 32-32000 $9.95 Features: * 13W ballast with integral lamp socket. * 6 foot Power cord and wire nuts. * Magnetic Ballast * 120V 60Hz * Ballast dimension: 5.94" x 1.65" x 1.69" (LxWxH) * This ballast kit will fit Marineland Eclipse System 12. Would this setup work for my current Perfecto 20" hood, to replace the Double screw-in 25w bulbs out? Would this be what I'm looking for or would someone recommend something else to setup my office "nano"? I current have zoos, MR, Xenia's, GSP in their now and want to upgrade, possible adding some leather corals as well, maybe even SPS? Krish, this adds up to $47, let me know what and when you need the money if this is what I need? PS, If the Perfecto Hood is an issue, I could always build a bigger hood setup? Guest Ghazanfar Ghori October 12, 2004 Share October 12, 2004 For a 10G setup - I'm got currently a Coralife 20" 96W Quad. They're available with 50/50 bulbs. This should give enough light to grow pretty much all soft corals and maybe even some of the easier SPS. Plus it looks good - especially with the legs that you can get for the unit. HowardofNOVA October 12, 2004 Share October 12, 2004 Cool setup, I've seen those before, but $25 vs $88 is the issue, I need to hold off until later next month if I go that route. Any other suggestions or would Ghazanfar Ghori idea be the best alternative for the money? Howard
Guest mikesroth October 12, 2004 Share October 12, 2004 You might want to check out some reviews on the Quad. I was thinking about getting one for Jen's 10 gallon, but I kept seeing people giving the lights bad reviews, and saying that it was rather noisy. That may have changed, or maybe you could check out Ghazanfar Ghori's setup and see what you think.
Guest Ghazanfar Ghori October 12, 2004 Share October 12, 2004 I've got 5 coralife fixtures.. 28W 20" 96W quad 20" 2 x 65W 24" 2 x 96 W 36" 4 x 65W 48" One of the 2 fans in the 4x65W fixture makes a little noise, the rest in all the fixtures are quiet. The noise in that one isnt that bad - it hasn't bothered me enough to do anything about it. Check on nano-reef.com - a bunch of people are using these fixtures on a 10. Is this the best solution? Probably not - would like to do a 70W HQI or something, but this will do.

michaelg October 12, 2004 Share October 12, 2004 Howard, I have been running a dual 36W PC setup for 4 years now on my 10 gallon tank. It costs a bit more though- it was around $80 after all said and done with bulbs. I made a cheap hood out of 1" x 6" wood. Was read easy. I think you should wait a month and get a stronger light than the 13W if you want to keep corals in it. Michael
xeon October 12, 2004 Share October 12, 2004 I would definitely suggest more than 13W. The 10g hoods with a NO Fluorescent are 15W(I think), which isn't much good outside of fishies seeing where they are going. I am starting a 12" (7 gallon) cube that I am using 2x32W PC's on. You could fit either the 96W shorty or 2x36W PC's. I have no idea what the perfecto hood looks like, but I imagine it is designed pretty much for the current setup you mentioned; two small screw ins. I would build a hood as part of the upgrade, not letting the current hood be a limiting factor.
