Master Reefer (8/13)

  1. I have a 72 gallon bow front setup I'd like to get rid of. Would like to get $500 for the lot of it... around 100lbs. of nice live rock and a deep sand bed in tank. Technically this is what I'm selling I guess... all the other stuff are just bonuses. There are two metal halide ballasts(175&250), MH lamps, ASM g2 skimmer body with stand pipe, MAG7, canister filter and maybe some other stuff I'm forgetting. It has the standard 72 gallon bowfront stand with a customer hood.. hood recently cracked but could be fixed with a little weld-on if you so chose.
  2. Howard, I would just go with Glass Cages and inspect it as Doug noted. When I started in this hobby I researched building a glass sump to fit the space under my tank. I wish I had checked prices BEFORE I did all the leg work on building glass tanks. Building your own is more expensive in most cases unless you happen to work for a glass shop... or that's the conclusion I came to.
  3. I am with Jake, I put it in one of my tanks and I wish I had never done it. It will grow all over the place. Consider yourself warned... twice. I remove it with tweezers... peel up a little bit of the base flesh and you should be able to pull it off in sheets. Attach this somewhere in your tank and you will have anthelia in no time. Placing it away from your main rockword might allow you to control it easier. In the aforementioned tank, I pull it out all the time, but I let it cover one side of my tank and it has covered most of my corner overflow. It looks OK... but now it is attempting to wrap around the front pane of my tank and into my overflow teeth.
  4. What are the dimensions and who manufactured the tank? Also, what has been used to clean the tank? Crazing can be a result of many things from initial machining errors, material used, stress, cleaning chemicals used on the acrylic and so forth.
  5. I second the more tape method... it is the only thing that I have tried that worked on a leaky joint I took out of my system a long time ago. Another thing I found out when exploring another leaky joint was that all threaded fittings are not necessarily NPTF. I once ran across a piece of equipment with a BSPT... which is a British Standard Pipe Thread. The taper is slightly different and subject to being a PITA to get a leak free seal using a Nxxx fitting. The animal in question was a Turbo Berlin skimmer... the input thread type on that puppy is BSPT. If anyone ever needs a PVC socket to the BSPT threaded fitting for a Berlin skimmer... I've got a whole bag of them.
  6. I have really been considering Qty. 4 or 5 T5 HO's over my inwall 75. Heat was a real pain until I got a chiller. Now I have a noisy chiller that cuts on from time to time. I work out of my home office a great deal... so that chiller can be a pain sometime. Anyway, the T5's would replace my current mix of MH's and VHO's. I just need to make the jump and go visit BRK and get some lamps, endcaps and reflectors. I've got many WH 5 & 7 ballasts laying around I can use. At this point, I've been thinking I want two of the GE daylight bulbs with two or three other bulbs to brighten the yeller' up a bit. That is if I decide to go that route.
  7. The ReefTek uses a MJ600. I imagine a MJ1200 would be fine in a Kalk reactor... you just might cut down the "on/stir" time.
  8. You are right of course... filling a 180 with liverock at >$5/lb. can add up quick. I am not too sure about local spots, but there is hirocks.com and reeferrocks.com. Hirocks is better in price, but they have questionable CS and the rocks you get may or may not be to your liking. I did a group order some time ago from Hirocks you can probably dig up if you search. Reeferrocks is my choice between the two for base rock.
  9. I would not suspect a "bad" membrane necessarily... it would be nice to know what sort of pressure is on the input. As stated temperature and pressure have a great deal to do with the actual output and performance of the unit.
  10. Sounds very nice... I am strongly considering switching my inwall 75 to T5's. Currently it is a MH and VHO combo. Will be watching this thread since the T5's seem to be pretty good in terms of output for a tank of my depth, run cooler, use less power... bla bla bla
  11. Both are fine... that is if you pick the Window & Door variety. The Kitchen & Bath have mildew inhibitors, which aren't things you want in your tank chemistry. Finally, silicone doesn't have great holding power with glass to acrylic. If there is much flow or pressure on the pane you run the risk of it letting go. Fixing that sort of thing on "live" equipment isn't ideal. My first choice would be Weldon #40, second Marine Goop or epoxy and as a last choice silicone. If I had to choose between the two types of silicone, the II is supposed to have a little better holding power with plastics.

  13. Nope the form and particle size are perfect, more of a warning than anything. The bags are not always pristine, some may have small tears. You want to put them in something because it is such a fine powder subject to getting everywhere. Are you going to pickup at the meeting?
  14. What specifically are you drilling?

Pickup today until 5:30 at Chip's Flowershop. No pickup on Wednesday requested as Chip will not be in and does not want his staff bothered with lime pickups. Pickup at Chip's Flowershop again on Thursday and Friday until 5:30. Chip may or may not be around much on Saturday... due to either making the meeting or being busy working. Otherwise, let's try and do this at the meeting and get the lime out of Chip's hair. The "actual" invoice will not be in my hands until delivery is made. They sent me an Order Acknowledgement with a total of $252.35, but this is just my PO with some scribbles on it they faxed back to me. $207 (lime) + $35 fuel surcharge + 10.35 tax = $252.35... It comes out to $28.04 for a full bag. .. $14.02 for a half bag.
