  1. I have a 72 gallon bow front setup I'd like to get rid of. Would like to get $500 for the lot of it... around 100lbs. of nice live rock and a deep sand bed in tank. Technically this is what I'm selling I guess... all the other stuff are just bonuses. There are two metal halide ballasts(175&250), MH lamps, ASM g2 skimmer body with stand pipe, MAG7, canister filter and maybe some other stuff I'm forgetting. It has the standard 72 gallon bowfront stand with a customer hood.. hood recently cracked but could be fixed with a little weld-on if you so chose.
  2. Howard, I would just go with Glass Cages and inspect it as Doug noted. When I started in this hobby I researched building a glass sump to fit the space under my tank. I wish I had checked prices BEFORE I did all the leg work on building glass tanks. Building your own is more expensive in most cases unless you happen to work for a glass shop... or that's the conclusion I came to.
  3. I am with Jake, I put it in one of my tanks and I wish I had never done it. It will grow all over the place. Consider yourself warned... twice. I remove it with tweezers... peel up a little bit of the base flesh and you should be able to pull it off in sheets. Attach this somewhere in your tank and you will have anthelia in no time. Placing it away from your main rockword might allow you to control it easier. In the aforementioned tank, I pull it out all the time, but I let it cover one side of my tank and it has covered most of my corner overflow. It looks OK... but now it is attempting to wrap around the front pane of my tank and into my overflow teeth.
  4. What are the dimensions and who manufactured the tank? Also, what has been used to clean the tank? Crazing can be a result of many things from initial machining errors, material used, stress, cleaning chemicals used on the acrylic and so forth.
  5. I second the more tape method... it is the only thing that I have tried that worked on a leaky joint I took out of my system a long time ago. Another thing I found out when exploring another leaky joint was that all threaded fittings are not necessarily NPTF. I once ran across a piece of equipment with a BSPT... which is a British Standard Pipe Thread. The taper is slightly different and subject to being a PITA to get a leak free seal using a Nxxx fitting. The animal in question was a Turbo Berlin skimmer... the input thread type on that puppy is BSPT. If anyone ever needs a PVC socket to the BSPT threaded fitting for a Berlin skimmer... I've got a whole bag of them.
  6. I have really been considering Qty. 4 or 5 T5 HO's over my inwall 75. Heat was a real pain until I got a chiller. Now I have a noisy chiller that cuts on from time to time. I work out of my home office a great deal... so that chiller can be a pain sometime. Anyway, the T5's would replace my current mix of MH's and VHO's. I just need to make the jump and go visit BRK and get some lamps, endcaps and reflectors. I've got many WH 5 & 7 ballasts laying around I can use. At this point, I've been thinking I want two of the GE daylight bulbs with two or three other bulbs to brighten the yeller' up a bit. That is if I decide to go that route.
  7. The ReefTek uses a MJ600. I imagine a MJ1200 would be fine in a Kalk reactor... you just might cut down the "on/stir" time.
  8. You are right of course... filling a 180 with liverock at >$5/lb. can add up quick. I am not too sure about local spots, but there is hirocks.com and reeferrocks.com. Hirocks is better in price, but they have questionable CS and the rocks you get may or may not be to your liking. I did a group order some time ago from Hirocks you can probably dig up if you search. Reeferrocks is my choice between the two for base rock.
  9. I would not suspect a "bad" membrane necessarily... it would be nice to know what sort of pressure is on the input. As stated temperature and pressure have a great deal to do with the actual output and performance of the unit.
  10. Sounds very nice... I am strongly considering switching my inwall 75 to T5's. Currently it is a MH and VHO combo. Will be watching this thread since the T5's seem to be pretty good in terms of output for a tank of my depth, run cooler, use less power... bla bla bla
  11. Both are fine... that is if you pick the Window & Door variety. The Kitchen & Bath have mildew inhibitors, which aren't things you want in your tank chemistry. Finally, silicone doesn't have great holding power with glass to acrylic. If there is much flow or pressure on the pane you run the risk of it letting go. Fixing that sort of thing on "live" equipment isn't ideal. My first choice would be Weldon #40, second Marine Goop or epoxy and as a last choice silicone. If I had to choose between the two types of silicone, the II is supposed to have a little better holding power with plastics.

  13. Nope the form and particle size are perfect, more of a warning than anything. The bags are not always pristine, some may have small tears. You want to put them in something because it is such a fine powder subject to getting everywhere. Are you going to pickup at the meeting?
  14. What specifically are you drilling?

Pickup today until 5:30 at Chip's Flowershop. No pickup on Wednesday requested as Chip will not be in and does not want his staff bothered with lime pickups. Pickup at Chip's Flowershop again on Thursday and Friday until 5:30. Chip may or may not be around much on Saturday... due to either making the meeting or being busy working. Otherwise, let's try and do this at the meeting and get the lime out of Chip's hair. The "actual" invoice will not be in my hands until delivery is made. They sent me an Order Acknowledgement with a total of $252.35, but this is just my PO with some scribbles on it they faxed back to me. $207 (lime) + $35 fuel surcharge + 10.35 tax = $252.35... It comes out to $28.04 for a full bag. .. $14.02 for a half bag.
  16. It is to be delivered to Chip's flower shop. It is in McLean, which is more accessible for N. VA and MD people. I'm in Culpeper, which is pretty much out of the way for all but a few. Flowers & Plants Etc. 1378 Chain Bridge Road McLean, VA 22101 Google Map for this Location Edward has also volunteered to transport bags in his truck and carry them to the meeting. That being said, I'll put you (Garrett) as the standby. Let's get a running tally of people to pick up at Chip's or at the meeting.
  17. Guys, order is placed and delivery is slated for next Tuesday, Feb, 21st. 2006. I may be able to add on to that up until Monday... Qty. 9 is locked in though.
  18. Edwardj, NeOen is flexible between a half and full, so you are in. Thanks for the help with the truck. As this progresses, people should post where they want to pickup at. No word on stock status yet... I am bugging my guy again this morning. At the worst, I hope we can get delivery next week.
  19. OK, as I figure it... we are at 7.5. So, Rob aka Ne0eN, I hope you do not mind that I bump you to a full bag. I have a little under 75lbs., which is more than I need, so I truly do not need anymore. Status: Called it in and the ladies in the office claim they have no stock. I also have an old P/N, so my sales guy should have a real answer for me this afternoon. I cannot find the new P/N he gave me and he is out of his office until this evening. I told him we are trying to get delivery this week. If it happens, Thursday is most likely the day. I should have the answer this evening on stock availability and ship date.
  20. I was completely slammed today and did not have time to mess with this. Will get the ball rolling on Monday... so stragglers are welcome.
  21. Yes, having the lime part done before the meeting should be no problem. At last call they had plenty of stock in their VA facility. Since they are coming to Chip's shop, I don't know if he wants to haul them to the meeting. If Chip says he can or would do this, or if someone else would like to volunteer to do this... please do share. At the present moment I do not envision the time to go to Chip's, carry whatever quantity home and then take it to the meeting. Half-baggers should also try and match up with a lime buddy. Splitting bags at Chip's shop and/or the meeting IMO are not ideal conditions. The Magnesium part will toss a kink into this altogether since it isn't stocked locally and would have to be transferred from Atlanta. At least I believe that is where they told me the closest was. I think I may be able to request delivery of the Kalk and have the Magnesium part shipped when it comes in for no additional charge... but I will have to run it by them. I am out of town until Thursday evening of this week, so I won't be looking into this until Friday. For those requesting info on the Magnesium portion, read some of what Randy from the Reef Chemistry forum on RC has to say about it. I have never used a two part dosing system, nor have I looked into it enough to answer intelligently about it.
  22. Dave, I think Lee noted at some point half a bag fits into an old salt bucket. A full bag is 50lbs. Personally I use a Rubbermaid container which works for me. I also started with around 75lbs., so a bucket would only hold part of what I have. I do think a salt bucket is a better solution since they are relatively air tight to guard against moisture. There are many ways to store it, keeping it dry is the "biggy". At this time I am looking to place the order on or around the 17th of this month. This will be after Chip's Valentine's Day rush. I'm not really an expert on the two-part supplements. In terms of dosing the Magnesium, it is a separate item from a Kalk drip and/or reactor. The link Garret put earlier in the thread to Reef Central describes the Magnesium supplement a little bit.
  23. Dave, Yes it is Calcium Hydroxide aka Ca(OH)2 aka Kalkwasser. Chemically it is all the same thing. So it isn't really a substitue... it is the same stuff. Storing it is easy... keep it dry. An empty salt bucket works pretty good. I am shooting to do this after Valentine's Day so we do not impact Chip in one of his "hot" times.
  24. Doug, I was off a bit... they burn CDs and DVDs, but the primary function of the firm is data entry, scanning of docs for companies and then putting them on optical media. They do not duplicate discs, but I know there are firms that do this.... I just don't know of any specific ones.
  25. Doug, Just a few comments. I would definitely farm it out to a "duplicator" of some sort. I know a guy who works part time at a place that does this sort of thing. I will ask him about it tomorrow if I can get ahold of him. Doing several disc sets would require a lot of leg work for a home burner. I have four PC's with DVD burners... but it would be a time consuming process to say the least. Speed depends on the media, drive speed and what you are burning... so I'm not sure how long it would take per disc. My fastest DVD writers are 16x, with 16x media it takes ~6 minutes to write a full single layer disc(4.7GB). Secondly, are you going for true DVD discs? If so, you need to have the wmv files encoded to MPEG-2. Then you can make a disc with chapters, menu, chapters... all the fun stuff DVDs offer. A couple of reasons to do this is for ease of use. If people watch them on their PC, they should be able to watch the wmv files. On the other hand, not all DVD players will do this. Having said that, some DVD players may not play DVD-R/DVD+R or will play one format and not the other. More players are compatible with DVD-R (>90%) as opposed to DVD+R (<90%). I would also make sure whomever uses good media. Junk media is prone to more errors out of the box and subject to poor life. Personally I would make sure the discs are Taiyo Yuden or discs produced in Japan. The exception to this "rule" would be TDK and Mitsubishi who have good quality discs being made in Taiwan. Here is where I buy my media: http://www.dvd-rwmedia.com/taiyo-yuden-dvd...ia-section.html In addition to being the honorary webmaster for my the cheerleading organization one of my daugthers is with, I may have duplicated a few cheer discs. I can thank my lovely wife for volunteering me for both of those tasks.
