  1. FYI Here's a chart of Mag pumps and head pressures: Charts for Mag drive application Courtesy ReefCentral.com, here is a head loss calculator This picture displays the return plumbing, including an additional horizontal valve feeding water to a refugium. The vertical section has a valve to bleed off excess water back into the sump. Details To avoid too much flow to your tank, in case your pump is too powerful, you can put a "tee" in your return plumbing, and an elbow pointing straight back down into your sump. Then you put a ball valve on that. If the valve is wide open, the majority of your water will go straight back into your sump. The more you close the valve, the more water goes up to the tank. This is the best system, because your pump will never feel a restriction and it won't shorten the lifespan of your pump.
  2. it's well worth to join as a member, you can ask as many dumb questions as you'd like and almost not annoy anyone (these people are GREAT!), I had a 25 for a while and found I couldn't handle it, but I also wasn't keeping up on water changes like I should have, so if I've learned four things after joinging this club are: 1. It was well worth joining 2. Use RODI water/Keep up on water changes 3. Don't overstock 4. Olny bad things happen fast in marine aquariums, paticence is key (I'm still trying to learn this, but I'm in a hurry )
  3. Shut downt the power to your house seems like a good start, then a multimeter is always nice
  4. Ok some I'm convinced.... I need to drill it... I'll get a local club member to drill it, I so don't trust mys elf.
  5. do you have a website, with pics where i can see your stock?
  6. Ok makes sense, how in the world would you lose siphon to an overflow box? I suppose it's possible, how do I adjust flow on a drilled tank? And if i have a drilled tank, i can see just the oppsite happening... the power cuts and my return pump fails... the tank keeps draining but the pump isn't putting water back in my tank and my sump overflows right?

  12. Are there any new tank tours comming up, I feel like I joined the club much too late :(
  13. I too would like to see pics of these tanks that you're commonly asking for donations for..... I might have some stuff
  14. This is shaping up to be a pretty good argment, I'd liek to see more on a decent LFS in maryland, as long as I have space to QT sadly I find Higher quality specimens, at cheaper prices than most of my other LFS
  15. Can any one tell me the advantage to drilling a tank over an over flow box, as well as what the heck keeps your sump from flooding? This is what i was thinking of buying http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...mMakeTrack=true
  16. Do you sell the Vanderbilt chromis? If so how much?
  17. I think I'll stick with a 1200 GPH over flow box... I can't see drilling a 55 gallon tank, and how would i adjust the flow amount...?
  18. How many fire fish do you keep in your tank? I heard you should keep them in a group of three... I didn't think this was true, but I figured I'd ask
  19. It looks like we are 99% sure of the move now. I think I will be headed that way in 2 months or so. Unfortunately, the good public schools in the tri-sate area are in Howard and Montgomery county, however along with that comes some of the higest housing costs in the United States. I find this club to be better organized than CMAS, or what ever it's called.
  20. Oh schweet are they mounted frags? even if on a tiny chunk of LR or Base Rock? Free woulda been nice, but $5 works as well
