  1. One problem with fans pullung air out is that the salty air causes corrosion of the fan shortening it's life... so I'm told. I'd mount the fans on the back blowing across the waters surface so the air has to bounce back of the front and exit the open back. I'd do like Michaelg suggests
  2. Nathan, Is the new tank also a DIY? I would really like to see the DIY tank and talk about how you did it. Others may be interested as-well.
  3. I'm having a hard time picturing your setup but see if this makes sense. Put an airline down into your return with the other end above the tank thus making a constant air feed into the overflow kind of like the air feed on a durso overflow. You might put an adjustment valve on the end in the air to see what effect varying the amount of air entering the airline has.
  4. Hey Michael, go to my web page and you'll find links to several reef places in the area. If you want some pulsing Xenia, let me know. It's a nutrient export in my tank :p
  5. Congrats JM! Now you need one more piece of equipment... a digital camera.
  6. I have plenty of the Spaghetti Macroalgae Chaetomorpha. I live in Manassas, about 15 mins from 1-66.
  7. If you don't want to go with MH like Snapper suggested, here's several options.
  8. Very wise John, thanks for watching-out for me. I have 2 150W DE 10KK + 2 110W VHO and planned on placing this about 8" from the surface. Not enough for this coral I suppose. Bali or Green slimer and montis do great with this setup
  9. Thanks for the heads-up Rick. What are the hours of your open-house? What is your shop's web-page?
  10. Acropora tortuosa or other blue or purple acro. I don't have anything worth trading except cash. I realize these are expensive and I'm only looking for a small frag.
  11. I have to sound critical not being much of an expert bbbutttt... wrong answer The lighting should be tailored to the tank's inhabitants as much as possible. Research time
  12. Very nice and look at the way the Acro covers the plug!
  13. I'm sure this came-up before but I couldn't find it. I can order a 50lb bag from Mississippi Lime (where Randy Holmes Farley gets his) but was hoping for less than 50 lbs and not pay shipping.
  14. I was wandering the same thing :p I'm in Manassas. I can reach Massaponax in about an hour. I've met people at out meetings that came from farther away than Richmond.
  15. So let me see if I got this right... In a container with tank water and good circulation = good On the roof = bad :p OK got it smarta$$
  16. 75 gallon. I hate my rock structure I'm going to pull all the rock out, disgard a few, add a few, complete restructure. I will be disturbing the DSB more than I'd like to but can't get around that. I plan on setting up a holding tank to put most of the livestock in. I'll also have a HD trashcan to hold like 20 gallons while I work. How long can live-rock be exposed to air before it has significant die-off? Your experiences, advice, cautions... would be appreciated.
  17. Here they are!
  18. Remove the taratulas! Sorry, it's my nature. :D In addition to book and links mentioned above check-out the following links for more info. ReefCentral Reefs.org My Webpage
  19. Is that why that lytophyton you gave me is popping-up everywhere. I now pull it out and consider it a means of nutrient export :D
  20. Click here Thought some of you may be interested.
  21. Very sorry to hear that Glenn. I'm a little shocked that they would die to lack of O2 with the powerheads still running.
  22. Thanks Mike. Took apart part of the reef structure last night to fish him out. Looks a little shrunk but OK.
  23. I have a tentacled corralimorph (I think) mushroom in my tank. It came from cbo and I think he got it from Michaelg who got it from Kita. Anyway, it's a big green frilly mushroom. It seemed to dissapear only to be found deep inside a cave where it gets almost no light. Could it have moved there itself like an anemone? Does it hate direct light? Is it in peril receiving almost no light? Where does yours reside in your tank and how do you care for it?
  24. Yippee! I'm sure you'll love that 2" depth. Congrats!
