Can anyone supply some info or a link to the norms of bulb life. I'm looking to get a new light and deciding between T5, PC, VHO, and MH. I've only ever owned T5s so I don't know much about the others. Currently debating between a larger T5 system or a MH/PC or MH/VHO combo. What are the pros and cons or VHO and PC?

If Johnny has a new fish shipment in by then, then I'm down.

How much for the 72" lights?? Can I get quotes on both 150 and 250watt units. Thanks.

If you're looking to get rid of one, instead of taking it back to BRK, I'd be willing to buy the smaller one from you. If not, then I'll go put in my order on the "ask a vendor". Just let me know.

Speak for yourself. I'm a science nerd myself. I was a double major in Information Technology and Genetics back in undergrad. I quit the genetics halfway when I realized I was insane for doing both. I'm currently in Physician Assistant grad school, so I know a decent ammount of this bio stuff too. Its funny that I was trying to dumben-down some things (like saying macromolecule) because I didn't want to get too technical, and I just now read your profile name. Am I weird since I actually found those links interesting to read? Makes sense that organisms with a higher % of adjacent Thiamines would allow for more Thiamine diamer........duh!!! I wish some scientists would actually get together and perform a species specific test like this on just ich and its variants. I'll bet you its out there, it just might be on the net.

Thats odd. Thats contradictory to what they had posted on their website. If they claim 90K at 1100gph, then how high will it be at only 300gph?? I don't care what the critics say, that'll kill anything that runs thru the unit. Simple organisms don't have the repairing micromolecules that humans have. We have the capability to repair thiamine dimers, protazoa don't. And with an organism that has such a short life span, it will make a difference in our tiny ecosystems.

They do have a great SW fish setup. Their fish are usually healthy and disease free. On several occasions they've warned me that a fish had just come in and that they were waiting to see if the fish ate before selling them. They actually offer a guarantee on their SW fish too. You have to bring them a water sample and they only give half credit, but its better than any other store. Only one I know of in this area to offer a guarantee on SW fish.

What Kind of lighting should I have/get
jamesbuf replied to jason the filter freak's topic in General Discussion
If you can wait a couple weeks, I'm going to be upgrading to a larger T5 unit and will be selling my current T5 unit. Its a plug and play 4foot long 6 bulb(54watt each) T5 unit. Nothing wrong with it, I just need a 6 foot long unit for my 180gal, not a 4 foot. I'll be looking to get around $250 for it since the bulbs are only about a month old. I was going to list it in a few weeks once I got the 6 foot unit, but you can have first dibs if you want it. just let me know. -
So you're just running a mag5 on that size unit? If you look at http://www.aquaultraviolet.com/uvsizingchart.php it states that the sterilizer will offer the 90K microwatts/cm needed to kill parasites, even when pumping 1066 gallons per hour through it. So the mag5 is pushing the water up and back into the main tank, so with 3-4 feet the mag5 has to push the water up, it will only be pumping around 300gallons per hour through the unit and back into the tank. This will definitly kill anything that flows through the unit since this will probably offer well over 150K of exposure, but will that slow flow of exposure cause the water to heat up?? Instead of running the output to the main tank, I would just run that water back into the sump to increase the flow through the unit. It should still be waaaay more exposure to kill anything in the water. Thiamine dimers are a SOB!!! Please keep me informed on this issue because I was considering buying the same unit ( http://www.thatpetplace.com/Products/KW/F6...9/Itemdy00.aspx ), and I was only going to be pumping around 500 gallons through it and was seriously concerned about heating the water.

I'm still down as a maybe. I'm going to be drinking and watching football all day with friends, so I'm not really trying to get myself into any trouble swerving around on the highways. We'll see. And Howard, I'm looking into getting into either the bluezooaquatics or AI order, so I can see your handywork then.

INSTANT OCEAN SALE 200G BOX $35.95 (80 boxes available)
jamesbuf replied to johnnybv's topic in Vendor News
Arg. Hopefully some people will back out. I looked at this post 2 days ago and thought no way would all of the boxes sell out. Sign me up if you end up doing another order soon. I still want the TDS meter, but I probably wont make it out until next weekend. Put me in line for any backouts for the salt too. -
Can you put your hours and address in your signature? Thanks. Hope to visit the store soon.

They have a couple incredible QUEEN TRIGGERS. I was so tempted. If I hadn't just bought a very tiny queen trigger for my 42 hexagon, I would've been all over one of them. If they had been just a little smaller, I probably would've gotten one. Lots of other stuff came in too. Once everything is out of the bags, they shouldn't have too many empty tanks so I would suggest everyone taking a look.

If you have 100lbs of liverock in just a 55 gallon, you definitly have waaaaaay less than 55 gallons of water you would have to drain out. Just get a couple of those large rubbermaid tubs and drain the water out and put it back in afterwards. My new 180 is drilled and I love it. Wished I hadn't been so hesitant about getting my old 125 drilled.

At least it happened now and not while you were out of town. Always gotta look on the bright side. There are plenty of knowledgeable people on the site. I'm sure someone will reply with help. Best of luck. By the way, is that a Queen Trigger you have as your picture?? If so, make sure you post some pictures of it.

You must be talking about Congressional Aquarium. I was looking at their lights and they were easily twice as much compared to the online stores. Several other products too. I agree though, I'm also willing to pay a little extra to support the LFS, just not twice as much.

So sad. The really tragic part is that he leaves behind 2 kids, an 8 year old daugher and a 2 year old son.

I have some green star polyps and they havn't touched them. I already had 2 of them in my tank before the addition of the new ones. And yes, they do eat aptasia. Worked for me at least.
-
I was in the area, so I stopped by congressional aquarium today. Same old stock, but they did have peppermint shrimps for 40% off, making them only $5.40. Figured I would spread the word. James P.S. The only reason I was "in the area" is because I was trying to visit Aquarium One again, but unfortunately they closed at 5pm. Its crazy that these two stores are about a mile from each other. With Wamas members as staff, I wonder who will be getting my business?? hmmmmmm

2 late nights in a row. At least the sand is now clean, as well as the water, and now the 180 is also aquascaped. The extra 6" of depth makes an incredible difference. With the liverock in the middle of the tank, my fish can now swim through the rocks AND swim laps around the perimeter if they want. Anways, gotta pass out. 4:20!!!!!! again!!!!!

Can you put new batteries in those brand of TDS meters?? It looks alot like the free one I got with my RO/DI unit and I couldn't replace the batteries on that one. If you can, then put me down for one.
-
Gotta say I really like the store. Great selection of fish. The best part its only 10 minutes from my house. I even broke down and bought the smalled baby clown trigger I've ever seen. Had to set him up his own 42 gallon hex until I decide what to do with him, not to mention dealing 180 move. Jeez, it really is 4:30, time for bed.
-
I got you all beat. Just finished moving all the sand, rocks, corals, and inverts to the 180. I started right after visiting Aquarium One. Very nice place by the way. So all the fish are still in the 125 and I'll adjust the salinity tomorrow to start the hyposalinity treatment in that tank. 4:20!!!!!!

let me know how it goes

just put them on opposite ends of the tank facing each other. You're bound to get alot of random flow that way.
