  1. That is too funny.
  2. Now I see why Johnny said to be careful with the pronunciation.
  3. So what is the name of the species?
  4. I would keep an eye out for a used wavysea or sea swirl. It'll solve all your potential flow issues.
  5. Anenomes are completely unpredictable. They will move around until they like a spot. Some will pick a spot based on light requirement, some based on the ammount of current. Most will pick a spot based on a combination of both factors. I have moved the rock that an anemone was stuck on to a different spot and had success keeping the anenome where I wanted it. Whatever you do don't try to pry the thing off the rock that its currently on. You'll just end up hurting, or possibly killing the anenome. Forgot to mention......... Welcome to the club. It'll be the best $20 you'll spend in the hobby.
  6. I also wanted to tell you that paying the $20 on here to become a member was the best $20 I ever spent in the hobby. I made that money back ten-fold after my first purchase of some used equipment. I got my first professional skimmer used for only $200, and it wouldn't cost me over $600 new. So I basically paid $20 to save over $400, and that was just my first purchase on the for sale boards. Lord knows how much money I've saved by being a member. I'm just a member and I wont make any money off you joining. I'm just trying to help.
  7. you beat me to it
  8. I started with purple up and it worked great. As you read more and advance further in the hobby, and maybe make the move to housing more advanced corals and such, you'll probably want to move onto more advanced ways to dose calcium into your tank. If it worked in the past and you were successful, then I'd keep with what you did in the past. Just remember that more is not always better. Out of curiosity, what are your water parameters like?
  9. No offense, but I would never take recommendations from Super Pets. I have been there twice I will never go back. Both times I counted half a dozen dead fish just sitting in there tanks, and many of there tanks were over run with pests like aptasia. The store is all about their bottom line, and cares nothing for the wellbeing of the livestock they carry. I've heard this same complaint over and over about that store. I hope it doesn't appear I'm being rude to you, I'm just trying to warn you before you start wasting your money there. They don't quarantine their fish before they start selling them to the public, so you could get a fish that just spent the last 24hrs in a cardboard box. All 3 stores I list below hold onto their fish at least a week before they sell them to the public, and this lowers the risk of you buying an unhealthy fish that will die on you when you take it home. There are two great stores over on your side of the beltway. I would check out: http://www.blueribbonkoi.com/ and http://finsandfeathers.storesecured.com/ Both stores are run by hobbyists and take great care of their livestock. If you want to travel to the MD side of the beltway, you can also checkout: http://www.scales-tfw.com/ Best of luck with whatever path you take.
  10. I would go with the all in one unit. You mention a long, tall, thin tank. Those aren't that accomadating for having a reef tank, especially liverock. To me, the depth (front to back) is the most important aspect of the tank. I'd much rather have a large "footprint" than a taller tank. Just my 2 cents.
  11. Although, if all I had to do was trim the "lip" and not the main thick brace, I would probably do that.
  12. The extension piece is only $30 or so. It would just buy that so there's no worry of trimming or shaving my tank.
  13. I know that they make an attachment for people with larger edges on their tank. Mine wouldn't fit either, so I ended up putting it on the center glass brace. Worked great. I'm pretty sure BRK has the extention that you may need.
  14. Hey Dan, not to highjack your thread, but what do you use to clean the front of your 54 bowfront? I've heard that the bowfront tanks are more easily scratched than the flant front tanks. From your experience, is there any truth to this? Thanks. Also, what are those big tubes for?
  15. Yeah, I hear that. I'm waiting on the design that will make me put my G5 up on ebay or craigslist. Not to mention I'm waiting on the skimmer that he builds for himself if he ever decides to upgrade tanks.
  16. your bulkhead should have come with rubber seals which should create a water tight seal when tightened.
  17. congrats on the purchase. You made a wise choice.
  18. You'll be happy with the wavysea. The oceanmotions are good too, but the wavysea is soo much easier to plumb.
  19. SQWDs are ok, just make sure to use a sponge prefilter on the pump that feeds the sqwd so it doesn't get all gunked up inside forgot to mention, I use these for my outputs of the sqwd. http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=FT0001
  20. Very nice. It looks like the superman is taking over your green cap though. A worthy sacrifice.
  21. Go with the aquactinics. The company has amazing customer service. I had a bulb issues and they sent 6 free Geisman bulbs to me, 3 months after my purchase. Their units are very well built also. Plus, you get T5 bulbs with the unit so you can have the dusk/dawn effect by having your actinics turn on an hour before and after the MHs. If you use just 2 14K bulbs, you can't have that effect.

  23. You suck. I drive an hour to visit them. And thats with no traffic. Its still well worth the drive though. Amazing how much cool stuff he packs in there.
  24. Very very nice. Making me reconsider my parents graduation present.
  25. Do you have any moonlights on your tank??? I found that when I added my moonlights the fish never reached that deep, comatose sleep. They still slept, if you can call it that, but were much easily woken up. When the lights were comletely off I would come down to see the fish completly out and maybe this state would allow any opportunist creatures to attack them while completely vulnerable. Only my guess.
