  1. you should get a $5.00 copperband for that tank.
  2. Hope this stuff works, I am plumbing my new tank with it. I got mine from BRK, they always have all the right stuff.
  3. I stopped going several years ago, just too unfriendly in there for me (and expensive). No webb site either, just not 21st century. Wally's and BRK for me. Sometimes I get brine from SuperPetz, but they are kinda peaked. I have purchased fish from Petland before, nice and healthy (until it jumped out of my tank).
  4. Check Blue Ribbon Koi, they are very reasonable.
  5. Thats true about the load bearing surface, but lateral strength is also important-ie cleaning the tank and moving the water back and forth. With that said, IMO Wally's is looking good these days. They are waiting until the tanks are ready before adding corals. Its a work in progress. Fish look healthy and the customer service is good also. I just got two tanks from them, a 75g and a 20g tall. Great prices on them, and the owner gave me a WAMAS discount on non-glass items as well.
  6. I got a bit from Blue Ribbon Koi and used some of my daughters play dough to form a dam around the cut area and filled it with water. If you are going to drill a tank I have a bit that was only used once. I have two, a 11/2 and 1" bit.
  7. I would at least put plates or brackets for support.
  8. My wife and I finally got a place of our own, and I am moving the tanks in the basement-finished section. Today I drilled my 75g and painted the back and re-painted the fish tank stand. The basic plane is a 75g display, 100g sump, 55g gravity fed refugium, two 250w MH, two 65w atinics, two Korila power head (the largest ones) and two Tunze 6025s, for now a 700g pump returning the water split between the tank and refugium and pc lights over the sump. I am going to use less live rock and more corals, mixed sand bed and the current fish in my 55g holding tank (plus a new fish or two that might follow me home) Why a 75g? Cost much less than a 90g and takes less energy to run it. I had the equipment to start with, most if not all, is in use in my holding tank. Why a 100g sump? Because I had the tank and I think more "non-fish" water the better. 55g refugium? The same, and to grow lots of food for my difficult to keep fish. Anthias and copperband. How will it look? Much better than what I have now. Photos soon....
  9. I was obsessed with aquariums in the 1970s, just ask my mom. I enlisted in the US Marine Corps and was stationed in HI where I learned to scuba dive. My tank is a reflection of that time, all Pacific fish/corals. My wife broke down and got me a 3g fish tank after the MPD academy, then a 36g then some mollies that learned to be saltwater, then some live rock......... I still enjoy freshwater S. American Cichlids but can't keep two different systems. Salt water it is. I am obsessed with aquariums in the 2000s...
  10. I am going to set up a longer term tank, planning it now with a set budget. Its going to be in the family room so the set up needs to look good. Same critters and corals though.
  11. Let me know when you are going to start, I would be glad to help out. After I move of course.
  12. It is a good store, the fish are healthy and priced well. Plus if you have small children, like I do, there is the bonus of other critters for them to look at.

  15. I was using kalk plus two part, ran out of two part and now add Figi Gold calcium. I don't test for calcium, but the corals are growing at an alarming rate. I think I'll switch back to two park for alk control though. I would think your system is so big that the cost of two part aditives would exceed the cost of a calcium reactor in no time. I'm sure you could find a 2nd hand one to set up.

All jokes aside, I use my kalk reactor to fill a large cup with ro/di kalkwasser for a daily top off and then add some Figi Gold calcium powder daily (or so). I put a couple of sps frags in the tank to see how the do under T-5 lighting, so far so good. There has been some growth. The macro algea is doing well, so is the slim algea. No skimmer on the tank, but it get 80% water changes on a regular basis.

My "wife's" 10g jawfish tank is a supprising amout of work, might have to go bigger.
  23. My question is what on earth were you doing at 4:46am working on a fishtank?
  24. The owner and manager said they will be upgrading their coral dept. and taking frags.
