  1. Rik, Did you get my PM about the green ORA birdsnest frag? Sorry to bother, just want to know how much cash to bring
  2. HaHa ok "good"... glad to know its not just me... Maybe I will stick to buying my corals from fellow WAMAS members... so far it has been the best way to go by far. Thanks!
  3. I live in Falls Church and have made multiple trips to Vienna Aquarium but each time I leave saying to myself "that was the last time I am going back there...", but now I really think today was the last time. It seems like everything is overpriced and the people (family) working there could careless that you are in their store. I asked about a yellow polyp rock with about 6 heads on it and the price was $48! I understand that a smaller store may need to have a bit of a mark-up to make profit, but atleast counter that with customer service... Has anyone else gone there, and if so, what were your experiences like? Maybe it is just me...
  4. I paid my $20 at the last fragfest at the middle school... is that what you are refering to?
  5. Ok so i think im going to upgrade with T5 lights..... what about these? http://cgi.ebay.com/24-Aquarium-Light-T5-H...1QQcmdZViewItem Sorry to keep asking the questions, but I figure I should ask the experts before I buy Thanks
  6. I have had my tank up and running for about 8 months now. I have had very few problems (knock on wood) but I guess that is to be expected as I taught myself this hobby. In my 35g hexagon, I have 2 perc clowns, midas blenny, sixline wrasse, coral banded shrimp, 2 emerald crabs, cleaner clam, and a few random snails and hermit crabs. As far as corals I a small 3 branched frogspawn, a few brown polyps, 3 different kinds of mushrooms (fuzzy, red, and another with blue strips on a purple base), a small kenya tree, and a few orange zoos. All of these were frags, and are not very large. My lighting set up is weak and am looking to upgrade in the next few months. I have a t5 set up with one blue and one white light (sorry im a newbie at the technical terms). But enough with the details. I have been going to a few local shops and looking at corals and to be honest, shocked at the prices.. so I am wondering if any of you out there would like to frag some of your corals or are tired of something that you no longer want. I have absolutely no problem paying you what you think is fair, I just dont want to pay 50$ for some small piece in a fish store. I am looking to get a good variety so anything that you think will survive in low to medium light- my tank gets direct sunlight about 6 hours a day. Please feel free to post on here or send a message... again, I have no problem paying for corals, i just dont like to feel as though it cost me an arm and a leg. Thanks
  7. Thank you everyone for the help! I think I will pass on this light and do a bit more research. Thanks
  8. Thank you for all of your thoughts.... Im not sure about the exact depth of my tank (its a 35g hexagon). Right now I have low output t5 lights- 1 blue and 1 white. I am keeping soft corals - but I think that is because my tank gets direct sunlight for 6 hours a day. I dont want to buy this if I will have to replace everything in the near future... Im more of a long term cost over short term savings guy. That being said, I dont really want to spend $400 on something nice So I guess I am open to suggestions. I am newish to the hobby, so please feel free to make any recommendations / offers. Thanks Might I be better to get a t5 setup? The lights last longer and at this point. I dont have aspirations to get a clam. Hmmm just thinking outloud
  9. I have a 35 G hexagon tank for about 8 months now... I am looking to upgrade my lights, and found this on ebay( sorry in advance if im not allowed to post a link to their site.... Im not sure of the rules). Could someone tell me if this is a good deal and will give me enough light to make my soft corals grow and maybe start to get some sps and other hard corals? http://cgi.ebay.com/24-380W-Metal-Halide-A...1QQcmdZViewItem Thank you!
  10. Can anyone tell me if that light in the link would be good enough? Thanks
  11. I dont know the rules for posting links... but I saw this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/24-Metal-Halide-T5-HO-...1QQcmdZViewItem Would this be sufficient for good growth and to maintain an anenome?
  12. Thank you! Any suggestions on what specifically I should get without spending a ton of money? I dont want the "best" but I dont want the "worst".... although the best would be kind of nice
  13. Hi all. I am new to WAMAS - just moved to the area in July, and started my tank not long after. I have a 35g hexagon (I know).... I still consider myself a newbie to this hobby that relies on experts like yourselves. Right now I have soft corals (shrooms, zoos, frogspawn etc) and they all seem to be doing well. I want to upgrade my lighting though... I have 1 of these: Aqualight with 10,000k & Actinic T5 Fluorescent Lamps - 14W - 24 in. (it has two bulbs). I was thinking about just getting another to make 4 total, but im not sure if this, in your opinion, would be a waste because It still would not be enought to keep sps and anenomes.... I have an abundance of sunlight that hit directly on the tank during sunny days, which I think is a good thing, but I would rather not rely on mother nature when trying to play God. Any advice you could give would be very much appreciated, and if you know of any good deals, new or used, i am interested. Thank you!
