  1. Would be interesting to see/try a breeding program of sorts, seems quite easy as long as you can supply the aiptasia?
  2. I think fairfax animal shelter had birds being sheltered there. You could perhaps ask them to take them on or put fliers on there? Should probably call ahead though.
  3. Love my nyos too! Not sure how much better it is compared to my older skimmer but it's practically silent. I only hear water trickling now with some fan noises, not pumps.
  4. Yeah it's definitely an aesthetic thing for me, I don't like all the dark spots between rocks or ridges. That and the sharpness makes it hard to look at certain colored corals. We'll see how I feel after seeing the T5 tanks. Also I do see what you mean by the look, and I like how the ATI looks like 10x more. Strongly considering just switching based on the aesthetic only since it's in the living room. That and the cords on opposite sides might look a bit too messy snaking everywhere Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  5. Thank you for offering! But bethesda is a little too far for me
  6. Yeah that's also something I've considered. It's just the T5s give me far better spread and doesn't create shadows where my current light does so that's why I'm mostly interested. Maybe if I add 1or 2 additional LED fixtures it wouldn't be an issue.
  7. Yeah this is the one I was looking at since I don't have a canopy. If I decided to go hybrid LED/T5 instead of T5's I think this is definitely the fixture I'm shooting for Also that's a lot of cons LOL. Would you still recommend it?
  8. Running 2 xr15s over 48" but I wanted a more even spread without breaking the bank. So I'm considering the aquatic life retro fixture but I've seen some people suggest just running T5s so I'm debating either way. I'm not worried about if it will grow things either way really
  9. Yeah I'm just trying to grasp what the "flat" look means because I have actually never seen a T5 only tank. I'd love to see your tank anyway though if you don't mind
  10. Yeah do you think you'll be free this Friday or weekend? I can come by
  11. I'm considering adding some supplemental T5s or switching to them and was wondering if I could see what they look like in person, either in store or at a club members home. A lot of people seen to mention the flat look they have and their distaste of it so I got curious. I'm Haymarket but anywhere around Centreville/Fairfax would be fine too. Thanks
  12. Had a similar thing happen to me while other anemones were doing amazing and ended up losing it :(. Hope you had better luck
  13. Is there anything about the setup itself you think I should know about before I consider trying zeovit? I know the amount of work is pretty high, but what about other elements? Is there something very different about zeovit I should be considerate of before considering it?
  14. Do you see a noticable difference in color or growth of sps between zeovit and redsea? Also I will PM you
  15. I may be restarting my tank down the line so I wanted to hear from other reefers who tried or are currently trying these methods. Just learned about them and was very curious. I would love to hear what you think the biggest pros/cons are and what you learned and suggest or what I should avoid. Thanks in advanced.
  16. They're both operational now so I don't think that was the case, just the few month old battery backup from ecotech wasn't holding any charge for some reason. I'm going to try to contact ecotech and see if they can replace it or fix it under warranty since it's so new. Thanks for the suggestions
  17. Yeah I tried that and I think my ecotech battery is just dead. Tried both of the reset combinations and tried charging it at a friend's house but nothing came of it. Just constantly blinking red. Also does anyone know when to throw out biopellets in these situations? Just started up a reactor 2 days ago and was wondering if I had to empty them out already. It's been about 4hrs without power so far
  18. Just got home to a power outtage and saw this on the mp10. Anyone know what it means or how to fix it? Thanks https://photos.app.goo.gl/xXyTRWe6qEd4WhTw1
  19. So I bought this T5 fixture when I started the hobby but ended up going with LEDs. I've been considering switching to or adding T5s because I like the look of it a lot more but I was wondering if this fixture was even safe to put on a tank? It attaches via 2 foots that go on the side panels and I have 1/4 low iron glass I believe. Not sure if it's okay to put this much weight on the glass? Otherwise I was wondering if There are T5 fixtures or retrofit T5 fixtures that doesn't have to be hanged from the ceiling but in some other form, thanks in advanced.
  20. Actually though, what % does everyone run their radions at? I run mine at 70% because my hammer seem to close up if I ever go above that range. I have 2 15w pros over my 4ft tank for reference.
  21. Thanks for the suggestion I'll try checking them out soon Thanks for the tip, I just picked 3" because that's the minimum size suggestion I got so far. I'll try looking for some more sizable ones then.
  22. I'm thinking about buying a 3"+ clam to increase the chance of succeeding, but the LFS around me (reef eScape and quantumreefs) didn't have any clams in stock. Anyone know any LFS or decent online stores that has a decent stock of clams? Looking for derasa or maxima mostly.
  23. Thanks for the tip, will definitely try it out. Probably will do it last after the display is clean so I don't have to clean it multiple times.
  24. So I finally got some aiptasia in my tank. Removed any rock rubble that had them on and it looks like I still have ~2 medium sized ones on my rockwork. I think people suggested lemon juice to kill them so I'll try that along with some peppermints just to be safe but I'm also seeing a few in my chaeto reactor. Since the reactor isn't large enough to fit my hands in to inject them, what would be the best way to remove and keep them out of the reactor? Throw away chaeto and keep the reactor dry until I am able to clear the display of them? Or can I temporarily throw in a small peppermint in the reactor even?
  25. I actually dosed Kent M mag to about 1800ppm to check if it was bryopsis and no reaction so far. It's only been about 4 days so I guess I'll try wait longer and see. I am located in Haymarket so it'd be a bit of a drive to get it from Silver Spring, perhaps at the next meeting we can arrange something? I am getting more mexican turbos through live aquaria and next week and seeing if they'll take care of it first.
