  1. I'd say it holds it's pretty clumped up even out of water but it's not firm or anything. I tried manual removal early on but now it's basically everywhere on the rocks so that might be too hard. I'll look up vibrant, thanks for the suggestion I have 6 decent sized ones in my 75G but they don't seem to eat it as far as I can tell, at least not very much. I'm thinking about adding some fuzzy chitons and more turbo snails and seeing if that helps
  2. https://imgur.com/a/BifyY So I've been trying to deal with this algae for a while and I was told it was a few different types of algae when I asked on another forum. I'm pretty sure it's not bryopsis since it doesn't have "fins" and I'm pretty sure it's turf algae but just wanted to confirm. It seems to grow in clumps and not get too long. If it is turf algae, do you have any recommendations on how to treat it? I've tried various snails, urchins, and fish that eat algae but it's been untouched. I would like to leave taking out rocks as the very last resort if possible.

  4. Yeah I am thinking about doing the same. I tried to see if people had issues with algae barn but it seems pretty good so far. Will do
  5. Hmm thanks for the input. Since I don't have room for QT right now I'll try to get it through algae barn or similar since it'll likely introduce less pests than ones from LFS or other tanks
  6. I'm about to start a chaeto reactor finally and was wondering if people "clean" chaeto for pests like you do with frags or fish QT. I hear chaeto can carry a lot of things but haven't heard many people talk about cleaning or QTing them or how to do it.
  7. Thank you very much for letting me know. I guess my old salt didn't contain any, since it's a new thing for me. I'll try turning the pumps off and see if that fixes it. Thank you
  8. I just noticed that the premixed saltwater started forming a sort of brown slime on the surface of the water. It was congealed on a powerhead cord so I skimmed that off along with whatever I could on the surface. What is the cause of this and how should I prevent it from happening again? Also do I throw away this saltwater now or do you think it'll be safe to use regardless? Thanks
  9. How do you control the on/off function? Are you using a controller like the apex? I think that would definitely be more than I am willing to spend for the dosing solution.
  10. Looks like it's between GHL and the coralbox for me, thanks everyone.
  11. Are you using the BRS brand? They can't be programmed, right? Just controlled with on/off. This one actually seems fairly good and affordable, thanks for the tip. Did you run into any problems using it? I was eyeing that but it seems out of stock on BRS, Thanks for the tip I'm seeing a lot of people complain about the wifi connectivity, have you experienced this?
  12. I currently have the Jebao dosing pump to dose 3 liquids and want to upgrade to a better, more reliable kind. What are some pumps that you recommend? Looking for a good mix of price/reliability, thank you.
  13. Aren't bobbit worms able to cause permanent numbness via a sting? I'd wear gloves. E: Can't find other sources besides this article, so I don't know how true that is. https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/running-ponies/eunice-aphroditois-is-rainbow-terrifying/
  14. Thank you both for the links, I can't seem to find one that looks exactly alike, but we will try to compare and look again in a bit. I wasn't sure if it was a hydroid because most of them seemed to have really long tentacles and the ones we see don't seem to. If we find any colonies we will also update.
  15. A friend's nano had some weird creatures I had never seen. What are these things? You can see them a bunch of times throughout, and more specifically at :05, 0:46, 0:56, and a bunch between 1:02~1:21. https://photos.app.goo.gl/YcT5Sg8gsVixDiPH2
  16. Haven't had trouble with the starry blenny myself, so I guess I got lucky. How would I go about identifying the turf algae?
  17. I got a handful of turf algae while ago, and can't seem to get rid of it. I have a starry blenny, foxface, pencil urchin, and emerald crabs, and none of those seem to be going after the algae. Will anything else eat this stuff? My nitrates are around 1ppm, phosphates are around <0.1ppm. Also trying to get rid of red planaria, it's everywhere. I'm siphoning them out when I can and plan on dosing flatworm exit when I get the population much lower. I was thinking about getting a six line to help lower the population, but how do they do with a McCosker's flasher wrasse? I'm hearing a lot of mixed opinions if they will get along or not. 75G display. https://imgur.com/a/8ivnC
  18. Where are you getting your pair of McCosker? I was told that the male would flash more when in a presence of a female but all of the LFS i asked said it would be too hard to get it.
  19. I haven't seen this particular one, but it does seem like it is gravity fed from the display. I was thinking about just using my media reactor's outlet and sticking that up there, if not just buying a maxijet for a feed line. I figured it would be easier than drilling an extra hole and redoing my plumbing. This definitely looks cleaner, so there's that. And it's separate from the neptune system? that's interesting. Thank you for the tip
  20. Haha thanks, I'm probably gonna do some research and get it cut by someone else, since I have no idea what I'm doing with power tools. I'll document the process and let you know once I decide to switch over
  21. Seems like a solid choice from what I've red so far, probably will end up going this route. Thanks for the tip Yeah, I don't but I have the same issue. I've tried fiddling with and removing the small valve and that didn't really seem to help either. Did you end up doing anything with your ATO reservoir or just leave it empty? I've seen a lot of people that turned them into refugiums, was thinking about doing something similar.
  22. I have a red sea 350 (75gal) and the built in ATO has always been giving me trouble, almost never keeping up with the rate of evaporation. I'm thinking of just swapping it out to a 5 gallon jug and an ATO, any tips/recommendations on which ATO to get?
  23. Oh that's a great idea, thanks for the tip. Did you have a refugium or dose phyto to help them grow? Or just let them do their own thing
  24. On another note, what do you think about using chaeto reactors in place of a refugium for pods? Getting a lot of mixed feedback on it.
