  1. It was odd. First of all, I was just stupid for not QT-ing the new fish because it came directly out of a 45day QT, already. Strangely though, it also seems to have happened much too fast for it to have been from my tank. As unbelievably fast and deadly as ood & brook are, im like 101% sure it still takes longer than 18-20ish hours between first exposure, till full white spot coverage/irreparable skin&gill damage/at deaths door. Also, although it must still just be a side effect of that anyway, I don't see wthat red skin "burns" are a symptom of such diseases, so that was really throwing me off!
  2. I'm in the recovery stages of a terrible oodinium or brooklynella infestation/partial wipe-out, leavin just 4 fish left, one of which is a hippo tang who showed first, and worst, but unbelievably is one of the survivors. He just started coming out and not laying down 24/7 anymore, and I've noticed many times, he goes over to where my bicolor angelfish is, turns sideways in the water, and the angelfish starts picking at him! He'll stay there and keep getting cleaned till something hurts him then he'll dart away but come right back. It's not all the time, but I see it many times a day. I think that's awesome! I know butterfly fish will be cleaners to huge fish and turtles in the wild, and I think I've even seen some types of large angels doing it too, but never heard of it happen like this!
  3. Yes, exactly, that's exactly what I would do! Along with setting traps up anyway, to find out and remove anything that happens to be there, ASAP. And WOW, that is SO awesome!!!!! Where did you get that rock from that had gobies and stuff in it???
  4. I would guess it wasn't blood or a bruise, as it LOOKED like the spine itself, and not surrounding tissue. Very sadly though, it's a moot point now :'(
  5. No problem, if I do clear a bunch out, I'll definitely let you know. Keep in mind though that my reefs have always been 33s&55s so the pieces of live rock I have are not going to be tdxmhat big. Probably averaging 1-2lbs, and less. Great for setting up a nice smaller display. There's a lot though, but more smaller pieces.forlli smaller reef patches, or to do "finishing work" around the outside of big reef structures and to perfect area to just the right shape.
  6. I would imagine not, but don't forget copper is EXTREMELY not cool for reef tanks/any inverts, so unless your reef lighting is on a FOWLR tank, it shouldn't even matter
  7. Ok good, I'm glad To know there's actually a legitimate reason behind that instruction. It sucks, but at least it's a real reason to turn it off. Thanks for the help:)
  8. The copper meds(cupramine)specifically say to be sure to turn off UV sterilizers, but that just doesn't seem right to me. How coulda a UV sterilizer have any affect whatsoever on copper? A sterilizer would make treatment like a million times better, but it says to turn it off. I dont want to do anything to hinder treatment at ALL, but the amount of additional help the UV would do working TOGETHER, is too much to not look into.
  9. At AC, the reason I was getting that florida LRSA, was cause it was the cheapest stuff, short of base rock. Like only $4.99/lb or $5.99/lb, I think! I had no money so I had to go super cheap. Oh man, I miss that place! The son REALLY screwed stuff up to bring THAT place down! :( Btw, just throwing it out there, when I have things redone and fully ready again, and I get new LRSA, I'll probably have way too much live rock, so I MAY have extra (super-cured over many years, some of which are pretty sweet pieces) thatd need new homes, depending on how many, and what tanks I have up and running and planning at the time. If so, I probably wouldn't even ask for $. I guess it really depends on how much im set back from getting some LRSA, but I'd prefer to just give any away if I can. At the very least I have T-to the-ONS of live rubble/skeletons/old frag bases/etc. if anyone would need for bacteria boosts and for "media". (Much of which has been in fishless/coralless tanks for long periods, so totally diseas&parasite free, for sure)
  10. Blah, I hate the idea of ordering and not getting to see and pick your own, but if that's the only way:/ yeah, the awesome stuff I used to get from Aquarium Center was Florida rock. Ok, so is TBS rock questionable then? Do we know anywhere it's definitely legit LRSA "live-rock-of-supreme-awesomeness"?
  11. What's going on with all the live rock these days? Does "fully cured" actually mean "sterile", or is it just usually overdone? Obviously I don't want mantis shrimp or bobbit worms and THOSE kinds of hitchhikers, but I'm sick of only seeing "live" rock that's sterile-bare with just bacteria, or even with boring coralline algae that you end up with anyway. They don't even have feather dusters on them, anymore! I remember years ago I'd get live rock from the Aquarium Center live rock tubs that had just small areas of more interesting coralline in ALL kinds and colors that I've never seen since, and so much other awesome life on it! cool algaes that randomly sprout up now and then, starfish, little cool tiny crabs, snails/limpets/abalone things, weird inverts, and multiple times even little wild corals growing on it! I used to see something awesome and new in my tank almost every week, that I never noticed before, for years! Long ago at the store I worked at, a live snowflake moray fell out of a piece of live rock!!!! Is it just cause everyone's that afraid of mantis shrimp(of all of my, friends, customers, and everyone I've ever known's tanks, I've only ever heard of someone getting a mantis 1 time)? I'd gladly have to take my tank apart to find and remove a mantis shrimp if it meant I could get rock like that again lol. Granted my reefs have always been small, though--33s & 55s. But really, would it really be that hard to just have a little 5, 10, 15gal tank WITH light, to keep it in for awhile to lure out any carnivorous hitchhikers from inside? Are there still places that sell the good stuff? I don't know it if needs to still be uncured wild, or what, but whatever it is, THATS what I'm looking for!
  12. Why is it impossible to just get directions for a furan 2 bath? It neglects the info on the box, and only 1 place mentions a furan bath, at least without like 2 or 3 other things added too, but on the forum where it was brought up, no one answered the guys question, they just started talking about other crap! Lol the world is against me today! Or maybe against my poor fish:( I'd imagine a bath(not dip)would be 2x the aquarium dose, but I'm not gonna just risk it. Does anyone know what to dose it? It's a 5gal bucket, and the stuff is 1 packet for 10gals.
  13. Well, like I said, the ONLY thing that seems at ALL to be improving at all is his breathing. And actually, I totally forgot to mention it, but it's what the picture I included is of, red "burns" patches on his body.
  14. Does anyone have experience or knowledge of ammonia burn? I've thankfully never had any experience with it, and although it just doesn't seem at all likely, cause there was no way it was over-ammonia'd on my end, and although it says it usually doesn't show up until 2-3days after the exposure, I really do trust where I got it from, but i haven't found any other issue that fits the symptoms like it. seems its treatable, but I'm just freaked out cause it seems pretty serious, and I've almost never had anything come back from this state, albeit it's always been because of other issues. A fish laying down all day, only moving when touched, when it starts shaking and jerking in place at first. Then it CAN keep itself up and swim a bit but it obviously wants to just go back down and lay on the ground again. It would lay on its side, or however it, but it's been positioned upright but leaning. It was breathing pretty heavy all morning but has been breathing much closer to normal, although when it breathes its open fast/close fast, instead of gently open/close. Except earlier when I was gently lifting it up now&then to check on it, it's been totally motionless other than mouth, gills, and slight tail due to gentle current. can....DO things really recover from this level of problem? Writing that includes these symptoms(as the more serious ones)seem to consider it treatable, but that really doesn't mean much. I haven't medicated yet because I don't want to stress it with a move to a smaller tank(yet). I've done big water changes, added air directly behind it, and it's between 2nfilter intakes(not touching, just close, so it'll have more but still gentle flow, and of the additionally oxygenated air(however slightly). I'd hoped to see some improvement, but nothing yet other than the breathing.
  15. I'd be happy to help with stuff not too far from me. I just can't be doing the trips down to around DC/NOVA :/
  16. It's just above the lateral, it's the short dark front inch of its spine. This new pic might help-the black dashes are the lateral, so it's easier to see. I circled the issue in blue. The very 1st picture I on the thread has the color tweaked to make it stand out more. You can see it in all the pictures, but the rest are about how it looks in person. ***Yeah, you guys have indeed convinced me to join, but I'm real strapped for money at the moment. It isn't a huge amount, but I just shelled out many many hundreds yesterday for a bandit, and tomorrow another $60some for various meds&stuff I didn't realize I was out/so low on. Not to mention another pinecone and flashlight fish I'm waiting on, both of which are "anytime", so I'll get to it soon, but it's just not the most immediate of concerns Im dealing with atm:/ (Hmmm...has anyone ever noticed what a contradiction "not to mention" is?)
  17. Apparently it HAD been eating the live ghost shrimp. I'd sit there for like 1/2 hour easily, picking out just the smallest shrimp, cause he couldn't eat the big ones. The store keeps the shrimp in fresh, but I guess they're pretty hardy cause they survive in salt too. I couldn't tell if it was eating them or not cause some die constantly; least a couple or few a day, and many were small enough to fit through the filter slits into the back area, so it was impossible to keep track of them. I had to just keep tossing a bunch in regularly. My store ran out of shrimp tho(luckily, it turns out), so I figured I'd try some P.E. and cross my fingers, cause I didn't wanna hafta be making hour plus round trips every few days to find more. I have a dozen little hermits, 2 big peppermint shrimp, and a sand sifting star in the tank to clean up any uneaten food(which also made it near impossible to tell if he was eating the mysis). Luckily the current leaves them all in a small circle eventually, so if they're uneaten, they'll be right there. This is about the time I was getting worried and started this thread, cause I still hadn't seen him show any interest, and couldn't tell if he was getting fat or thin, or what. Thankfully, cause I was putting a good amount in, I started noticing his belly getting real big, and then I started noticing him hanging out near the food spot awhile after feeding, so I gave it a shot feeding in the daytime, and if I check 5 or 10 minutes after putting the food in, he'll be over there eating......TRYING to eat! Watching him eat, I don't understand how they possibly survive as a species!!!! He's so slow, and if the mysis are swirling or moving at all, he seems to be at a loss of what to do. I guess he just fails until one temporarily stops moving long enough for him to float his slow-ass over a centimeter, angle himself perfectly, and decide when he thinks it's a good moment to strike at his..."elusive prey", or when a shrimp hits a sweet spot where it gets dropped out of the little spinning eddy, leaving it available for him to "stalk".
  18. Sure thing. Should I just start it here in general discussions, or is there a better place for that? I plan on joining WAMAS for real probably next week-I'm getting a bandit angel on Sunday, so obviously I'm a little strapped till after that.
  19. Ah-HAH! Once I switched to the full version I got the photos to upload!!!
  20. Nevermind, happily I can tell now that hes been stuffing his face! I'd go ahead and delete this thread if I could figure out how. Is that possible, or are these just here for good?
  21. Ok, yeah, picture upload is broken atm, so ill just have to try again later, or can send pictures directly to you, but I'll keep attempting to upload them on here:(
  22. I just noticed this a few days ago-it definitely wasn't there before that! It's a dark line that appears to be a section of his backbone! He acts 100% perfectly, and it's totally internal, there's no bump, or other external signs. You can still see it a little bit from the outside in these pictures, but normally you can only see it when the light is shining through him. I've never seen this before and it's really scaring me. Has anyone seen this, or anything similar to this at all before, in any kind of fish, fresh or salt? Does anyone have any educated ideas about it? This annoying thing won't let me upload pics, even though they definitely fit-they're exactly the same As every other thing I've uploaded on here! I'll try uploading them on a reply here
  23. Does anyone happen to know what a skinny(not eating)pinecone fish looks like? Or if they're even ABLE to get skinny with the armor plates? Although I've never seen it even show the SLIGHTEST bit of interest in any food, whatsoever, I think my little guy IS eating, but only in the dark as they sometimes do, and so he's too stuffed to care about food in the day/early night. I THINK he MIGHT look "full", but I can't remember how his stomach looked when I first got him, and all online pics are adults, bad angles, and look the same, so I have absolutely zero points of reference. If they're stomachs even CAN change with the tight plates, I'm still not sure because the wide part could be either the chest, OR the stomach. I doubt I'll find anyone with such specific pinecone experience, but doesn't hurt to ask:) *Counting the shrimp won't work. Other variables.
