  1. Use the plastic egg crate that you can buy at lowes. You can cut to size and stack as high as needed, very cheap solution
  2. I didnt go, but I wish I would have. I don't think I would make a trip to New Orleans
  3. I appreciate the response zygote, but please..... In the future try to sum up your answers a little better, nobody wants to read a novel.
  4. Oh crap! Is this just only about Cichlids?
  5. I need reviews from years past. I've never been, but i think i convinced my wife to go with me and make a weekend out of it, but i just want to see if anybody else has done that. My wife respects the hobby, but shes not really into it. I think she just wants some time with me away from our 1 year old. Is there enough going on to keep us "mostly""busy from friday night to sunday afternoon. i know we will go out to eat and spend a little time away from the hotel, but most of the time will probably be there.
  6. i currently have a 180g with a pair of occelarus clowns that ive had since the beginning. they were the first fish i bought and ive had them almost 2 years. I saw some almost all white clowns earlier today, i believe they were referred to as wyoming whites, but not sure. they are also occelarus. if i bought a pair of those and added them to my display, would the other clowns fight with them? I have no nems and the current clowns host a corner of the tank and thats it.
  7. to take all that time and effort to decimate the GSP and your putting it back in? Good luck, i think
  8. The local fish store i bought these from had them labeled as "various mushrooms" but they look like ricordia to me. Can somebody tell me for sure?
  9. I have a 180 gallon display with a 30g sump. I have never seen asterina starfish in my display, but i recently bought a coral from a fellow reefer and there were about 6-7 of the little guys on the rock frag it came on. I didnt want to put in my display right away, but decided to put them in my sump. My thoughts are that they will eat any leftover food and stuff that would normally collect in my sump. Is this accurate or do they only eat algae? also, i realize there is a chance that they can still get into my display if they go through my return pump, are they really a pest? i can take them out of the sump now and just avoid that possibility all together.
  10. I bought a fixture from Hydro Galaxy about 6 months ago. I got the upgraded version that has wifi set up built in so i can set it from my phone. I think it was just over $100. Ive been happy so far
  11. I agree. I have asked Chris a million questions, some times more than once, and he never seems annoyed or anything but nice. They also have good promos that change regularly. Good spot
  12. how much do you need? i have a 75g tank with about 1 1/2-2 inches on sand in it. i switched to a 180 a few months back and used all new sand for it. You can have it for free if you want it. It would probably need to be rinsed before use though. let me know if your interested. I see your in winchester, i live in middletown, so not a long drive for you. let me know
  13. another option is Dutchmans reef in sterling. Its a new shop that opened a couple weeks ago. no coral right now, only fish, but will be getting coral soon
  14. I bought my 180 from this guy. He was setting up shop when I got it. Very very nice guy. I went by the shop a couple weeks ago and took a look at what he had. A lot of different tangs and Angels and triggers. Didn't have coral at the time, but was planning on getting a large shipment soon. Definitely check them out
  15. Only thing I could suggest would be to tape a small mirror to the side of the tank that he hangs out. I had an aggressive coral beauty and tomini tang and it cured them. Left it up for a month or so and they didn't care about any other fish except their reflection. When I took the mirror off, no agression returned
  16. You definitely have a lot of options. My tank is a similar set up, peaceful reef with mostly softies and lps. Im only going to offer suggestions based on my own experience with fish that i have or have had. Coral beauty is very pretty and mine has no issues nipping at anything, red firefish are pretty cool, but hide for a lot of the day, he comes out about an hour or so before feeding and stays out for a couple hours after. Scooter blenny is really cool and was my favorite fish, i loved the way they just bounce from rock to rock. unfortunately, since doing my switch from 75 to 180 a couple months ago, he hates me. the second i walk into the room he freaks out and hides. i never see him anymore. You could add another tang, but i would do that last if you plan too and it may be a little hostile at first, but should be ok. I have a Orange spot rabbitfish, which i love, but gets too big for 125(IMO) but possibly a foxface? My rabbit hasnt touched any of my corals or gorgs. Also recommend looking into gorgonians. I just added a couple and i love them. I have a Tan candelabra and 2 corky fingers. I dont know where you live, but if its anywhere close to front royal, Noahs Ark has a few of the corky finger there you can see in person. hope this helps
  17. It's supposed to be two day shipping, but according to USPS two day shipping can take up to 7 day. Stupid
  18. I didn't contact them, it's not their fault. It's the reliable USPS to blame. Oh wait?!?!
  19. First let me say that i have placed a few orders with GCE in the past. Different Macro and snail orders mostly, and I would highly recommend them. With that said, i ordered 3 different gorgs from them at the end of last week. 1 golden plume, 1 corky finger and 1 tan candleabra. The order was shipped out on monday and sat in Tampa Bay until thursday morning, i received my order Friday afternoon. This isnt GCE's fault, but its not the first time this has happened either. The first time this happened was with a snail order and it didnt really matter much, but unfortunately the gorgs havent faired too well. I thought all was well when i unpacked them since they looked decent and didnt seem to have any visible damage. I placed them in the tank on Friday afternoon around 3:00 without any acclimation (this may have been a problem also) i thought after being packaged for 5 days that the sooner i could get them in fresh saltwater and under some lighting, the better chance they would have. Unfortunately on saturday morning i noticed the golden plume had extensive visibly damage, about half the plumes where missing skin and the main stalk was missing skin about half way up. Also the corky finger i received had 2 fingers, 1 looked dead and the other looked decent. The Candleabra looked pretty good. I decided to give it another day and see what happened. This morning the golden plume was worse and the corky finger that was dead looking had skin hanging from it. So i took the plume out and cut off the dead finger in hopes of preserving the other, im not sure if their health is connected in some way or if each finger is its own "animal". The Candleabra looks better and has about half its polyps opened at this point. So I dont blame GCE for this and i still recommend them, just be aware that on occasion this happens. I've probably placed 6-7 orders with them and 2 have sat in Tampa for almost a week. That being said, Im still looking to buy gorgs, photosynthetic and local. Let me know if you have any to sell. thank you
  20. Yeah, thats what i was thinking too. i ended up not using the piece now, but i may in the future. I switched out the interface with my LED and the screen worked and the blues worked, but i cant get the whites to work at all. I switched some wires around and no matter what i did, only the blues work. I ended up ordering a new fixture last night and it should be here tomorrow. Thank you though
  21. the first pic is of Tan Candelabra and its hard to tell the size from the pic but its about 6 inches tall and 6 inches wide. The second pic is of Corky finger, the longest finger is about 9 inches and the other is about 6. The last pic is of golden plume. Its about 12 inches tall from tip to stem and about 5 inches wide. None of the polyps are really open yet, i just placed them in about 4 hours ago. Please excuse the bad lighting, my main LED took a crap a couple days ago and will be replaced tomorrow.
  22. they came in today. got delayed a day, but still look pretty good. I ordered a golden plume, corky finger, and tan candleabra. i'll try and post pics shortly
