  1. I had a DIY algae scrubber in my last set up before taking a break and it worked great. I’ve been thinking of adding one to my new set up but was looking into buying one this time. I found a company from South Carolina that makes them. Looks like a great design, great reviews and certainly reasonably priced. I ordered one for a 250g tank with the black out option to keep algae from growing outside the scrubber for 250 bucks, free shipping. If your interested, PM me and I’ll tell you the name. Or if it’s allowed, I’ll just comment below with the details
  2. Ok good, I’ve been racking my brain on what I may be doing wrong or forgetting. This was the best plan I could come up with given the circumstances
  3. So I’m currently setting up a 300g tank. I have approximately 125lbs of live rock in tubs that came from an established setup. I’m also picking up more rock, I would guess another 125 lbs or so this weekend from another established tank that is being broken down. My plan is to put all the live rock in the tank along with new sand this weekend and possibly add some bacteria as well(turbo start or something similar) the problem I have is that I will also be picking up 2 eels and a puffer within a few days of setting this up, so I doesn’t give it time to cycle like normal. My thoughts were that being the rock is still seasoned and I’m actually getting the eels and puffer from the same guy as the 2nd batch of rock, that it would limit the cycling process. I was thinking of adding bacteria, not a full dose as if starting with dry rock, but just some to boost the bacteria that should already be in the rocks. I know I will have to beginning uglies and such, I just want to make sure the livestock isn’t in danger. I also know that rushing is very bad in this hobby, but I don’t really have a choice. Once I get the rock this weekend, the eels and puffer will need to go within a few days after. Do you think this will be ok, or other suggestions are welcome.
  4. I went to Ricks for the first time last week. Not impressed at all, kind of a dump inside. So-so selection and seemed pricey on most fish.
  5. I’m setting up a 300g cube with a large (75-100g) sump. I know I will have multiple heaters, but my question is about the heat controller. I’ll probably get the finnex controller, since I’ve used them in the past and they worked well. Can I plug a power strip into the controller with all the heaters plugged into it? I would hate to have to buy a controller for each heater. Maybe it’s a dumb question, but I just want to be sure
  6. Yeah, driving to New York Friday to pick it up
  7. Thank you very much for the detailed response. I’m picking the tank up on Friday. I have to drive to upstate NY to get it, but whatever, it’s worth it right haha
  8. Not sure, owner just said it needs resealed, but I decided to go a different route. Mods please close the thread
  9. Yeah, I agree. That’s why I didn’t want to do it. I thought they could be resealed with confidence though.
  10. in my search for a large tank, i've found a 240g, but it needs resealing. i have never done this and am kind of intimidated because thats a lot of water if i dont do it right, haha. i've heard that its pretty easy to do, but still. Is there anybody in the group that has experience resealing large tanks that i could pay to do this. i would feel much better having somebody that knows what they are doing. shoot me a pm if you are interested or know somebody who may. Thank you!
  11. I won’t be able to access from the back, but will be able to from the other 3 sides. I’m not looking to have a lot of tangs, probably only 1 or 2 and I would stay away from hippo
  12. in my pursuit of a large system in which i want to house multiple eels, i've come across a 4x4x3 (300 gallon). This size is intriguing to me. i originally wanted a longer tank to give the eels enough space to get away if needed and to give the larger fish longer length to swim, but would the depth of 4ft make up for the lack of length? i've heard some Tangs and other fish need longer tanks, but im not sure what those fish are. Thoughts?
  13. so i found a water report for my community, but its greek to me. I see chlorine on the report and not Chloramines, but other than that, i dont know what to look for. Does anybody know some specific things to look for? Here is a link to the report, if you want to look at it https://www.aquaamerica.com/WaterQualityReports/2018/VA/VA2069650.pdf i know its from 2018, but should give me a good picture of what im dealing with.
  14. wow, do you think if i ran a 4-5 stage unit with a 1 micron sediment that i would be ok? i know its a crapshoot not knowing exactly what im dealing with coming out of the tap.
  15. how often are you replacing the DI resin. i understand that time doesnt really matter, but do you have an idea of usage or gallons made between having to replace it?
  16. im about to get back into the hobby after a couple years out. i"ve moved since the last time i had tanks and i feel the water quality at my current house is worse than it was before. My water is owned by a private company(Aqua) and it seems to leave a white residue when it dries. i had a humidifier that would accumulate hard white crust(much like salt creep) around the spout and it was me worried about the RO/DI unit. I dont know if there are any steps i should take before buying a ro/di unit to make sure i get the right setup for the job. Any recommendations are experience with this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  17. Saltwater eels & Puffers and predator fish club
  18. thanks alot. i found one specific to eels and predator tanks that i joined. Thats they way i want my current project to go. i also joined the wamas FB group and definitely prowl the site itself a couple times a day, haha. thank you!
  19. It is what it is, that’s why I asked before joining a bunch. Thanks for the input
  20. I was afraid of that haha. I’ve been in a few groups about other pets (dart frogs, geckos, pythons) and it was insane compared to Wamas.
  21. I usually use Wamas forum as my go to for questions and just general info and joined their FB group as well. I was wondering what other FB groups people are in that seem pretty good? There are a ton so looking for advice based on experience. Thanks
  22. i think all those fish need to be fed everyday though. not saying i cant, but trying to explore fish options that would have the same feeding schedule as the eels.
