  1. As far as I could tell when I was looking at the 300 gallon tanks from custom aquariums they don't over the standard overflows/bottom drilling like the 300DD from Marineland. Just something to keep in mind.
  2. I would think there comes a point where you are negating the noise and such benefits of putting the equipment in the basement to start with. Then again if you have to get a louder pump to handle the extra distance...I guess it all comes down to priorities.
  3. I look forward to one day having a seahorse tank. It will happen =)
  4. Seems a shame to hide it under the stand. Of course that's easy to say when it's all clean.
  5. Thank you for the great video. It was a nice relaxing, destress break at lunch.
  6. Does anyone know one they can recommend?
  7. Nice vid, the bottles etc. are a refreshing interesting touch.
  8. Looks very nice! Looking forward to seeing this build progress =). Just big enough it still fits.
  9. Welcome. I know it's nothing expensive, but I'd think about a quarantine tank also. Having watched just over the past few days I've seen a lot and of course there is craigslist but that's more risky in my opinion.
  10. We found a UV sterilizer we bought years ago when taking inventory to get ready for setting up a tank and I was wondering how folks feel about using them. I think we decided not to use it due to not wanting to kill good things along with the bad. Since it's been a few years I was wondering what the general stance is now days when considering a reef tank. Thank you in advance for your input, Lorna
  11. Great pics. I enjoy seeing what folks manage to do with smaller tanks, I don't have the restraint to maintain somethign such a size.
  12. We spoke with Steve when visiting there for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was very pleased with his level of knowledge, honestly and enjoyable conversation. Despite the fact that we were there after closing hours he continued to answer our questions and provide a wealth of information. There pricing seems to be similar to those of online retailers with the added benefit of supporting a local store. We haven't bought anything from them yet but I do foresee I purchasing from them in the future. Also their hours of operation are more customer friendly than other local stores.
  13. Hello all, I just wanted to say hello even though we have yet to get a new tank running my husband and I decided it was time we returned. We were members for a year a few years ago and then after we moved homes and our tank crashed we fell out of the hobby. Up to that time we had a 150 gallon tank we enjoyed for a couple of years and would have considered ourselves advanced beginner reefers starting to get into intermediate level. We have decided on getting a Marineland deep dimensions 300 gallon tank and have begun getting everything together. We have purchased what should be most of our plumbing supplies (I would say all, but it always seems a few extras are needed) and now just need to reinforce the floor (first floor tank and sump etc. will be in the basement) and we'll be ready for the tank. I look forward to becoming an at least somewhat active member of the community(I'm very much an introvert, my husband is the extrovert) and getting back to that advanced beginner reefer stage and going beyond so that we can give back to the hobby that we so enjoy. Lorna
