  1. Wow! I’ve heard they grow quick! Maybe I should be happy mine is slower growing at the moment.
  2. I run IO, but I have lots of Stoney corals so it never affects my overall Alk stability. If you don’t have a lot of calcium demand, I could see it staying that high. back in the old days, it was common to see people running alk in the 10-12 range but if I recall, you have to increase the energy of the tank as well (higher light and nutrients) which also made it harder to make it stable. i would say if your corals are doing fine, not a huge concern. 10 isn’t that high.
  3. You could also reuse these rocks if you clean them. Thinking throwing them in a bucket without light for a few months or some algecide May work
  4. If you see signs of it on new rock, I recommend blasting with peroxide or just glue epoxy putty over the spot
  5. I think you need to remove the ATO which you would probably do anyways if you got the Tunze osmolator. Also, they have a reefmat 250 coming out... I think i saw it in a video so it might not be out yet, but it was designed for the 250. According to a ReefBuilders article, the 250 comes out sometime in October.
  6. Yeah, I tried on my old tank with a razor blade and it was not easy and quit. Ordered the removal kit and it was a breeze. Did it while the tank was fully functioning. Only thing I noticed is there were some silicone bits floating around but that’s not harmful for anything
  7. If it's super tough and hard to pull off the rock, it might be red turf algae. I had it for years and they only thing that worked were huge mexican turbos (NOT the zebra striped ones) and tuxedo urchins. My tank was covered only under the brightest light areas and they would not totally remove it, but would keep it in check decently well. ITS A PAIN IN THE BUT!! EDIT: just to be clear, the urchins would completely scrape it off the rock, but would not target it specifically. the mexican turbos, if big enough, would mow it down but it would still be on the rock, just flat against the rock and not fluffy. At one time, i used peroxide in a syringe to spot kill it. (turn pumps off, squirt some on it, let pumps sit for 30 seconds and then turn everything on). I made sure to never do more than 10-15ml per day in a 100g tank. Probably not ideal if you have SPS, but all other corals can handle it fine. I would only do this if that's all you have in the pic, or take the rock out and cover it with a peroxide soaked towel for 10 mins. Not sure why, but one day after about 2-3 years dealing with it, it just went away. It was when I broke my tank down, moved it from Ohio to DC and all my rock was condensed to 2 20g longs plumbed together. I think the nitrates shot up to like 50 or 60, but not sure if that's why it died or the death caused the nitrates, lol. but I have not seen it since.
  8. From what I have read, the RedSea Reef Mat might be a better option and they just released a smaller one that should fit your sump perfectly. Removing the filter sock section is super easy, it took me able 20 mins with the redsea tool kit (~$15) I would 100% recommend an osmolator (they should be coming out with the new one soon, but the old version is super good) I would also look at replacing some of the lower quality equipment with nicer stuff like the jebao dosers. With acros, an auto alk tester would be a huge recommendation, since you're on GHL, I guess their version of the tester? And you can always load up on food, salt, supplies, etc., that you would use anyways.
  9. Not sure if you’re up on it, but I would try to dry any building materials with in 24-48 hours to prevent mold. Not sure if being saltwater would act as a mild anti fungal but any water trapped in a wall or floor or behind insulation could give you problems. Salt will definitely give you rust issues around metal obviously. If you are going thru home insurance, they may cover and help get someone like Servpro out. Just things to think about once you get the animals settled.
  10. Sorry to hear that!! How's the house? major water damage?
  11. If you have hair algae, I would try a variety of snails or crabs to deal with them. I think your phos and nitrate are fine. Phos is a little on the high end but probably won't affect the coral at that level. If you starve your algae to make it go away, you're also starving your corals. Leathers can close up for months on end and open up one day looking better than ever. If it looks like its snotty or shiny, it will shed. If it gets black, then that means its dying.
  12. Finally got around to building a cabinet for all my controller things since there are no walls on this stand to screw into. Turned out well - not pretty but does the job well and gets the electrical stuff off the ground. Cords are meant to be 'messy' so I can easily pull equipment for cleaning. Not trying to win any under the tank competitions, lol. Built Painted Installed And no update should be without a FTS
  13. Nice! I have a similarly sized tank (59"x30"x22"). Its a great size and i am sure you'll like the depth.
  14. Little update - everything seems to be growing well at this point. My pink lemonade frags are all dead, but it’s not a hard coral to find. I’ll probably try again with that one someday. Lost another yellow acro frag too so something weird with yellow acros in my tank. I bought a Pink Floyd frag, so let’s see how it does, lol. Also added a few other acros including a nice chunk of JF solar flare, which I’m in love with. My Oregon Blue Tort started having patchy STN, mainly on single coralites on the base. So I cut a few really nice branches that seemed unaffected and dipped the remaining colony in FURAN-2. Still have a few packets left. It’s expired but probably still active. I’m sure it will be fine and recover but it needed a reset. It was a weird looking colony. Otherwise everything else is back to growing and coloring up. I was toying with the idea of red Xenia for a while, since it’s not very invasive but after seeing that video of it in Sanjays tank over the weekend, I pulled the trigger and got a piece from tidal gardens. I plan on building out the cabinet and mounting the LED power bricks next weekend. So not quite done with the ‘upgrade’ yet. Here’s a FTS for Full Tank Shot Friday
  15. If you were to get the Coral Magazine subscription, there is some good articles over the years on how to ID different corals. I particularly liked the articles on IDing maze brains to a genus level. If you subscribe (either print or online only, you still get the whole backlog digitally)
  16. I ordered from them and they came in healthy, although I ordered mexican turbos and got half mexican and half zebra turbo which are different and eat different things. Little annoyed because I ordered from them to get mexican turbos. They do give you extras tho!
  17. Also a loyal reeftopia customer. My first online order in 2006 was with them. Still use them. Only thing I ordered that was unsure of was nassurius snails - they were so small and never saw them again, otherwise all other snails and crabs were super healthy. Plus they have great prices in Ricordea and Rock flower nems.
  18. My clowns always spawned and I can't remember them no eating... typically they eat more right before. I would suspect an illness or stress over them spawning. Not sure about pairing, since its been a while, but I seem to remember pairing being almost immediate.
  19. I'm just finding this thread. Your attempts are awesome! wishing you luck for these most recent ones!
  20. Looks good! I had the 70gallon version of that tank and loved it. Same footprint, just not as tall. Do you find getting flow right in that tank is difficult?
  21. Looks awesome! Also looks like you might be cutting a bunch of stuff back before you know it again.
  22. Marineland polishing filter worked well for me when I filled my new tank
