  1. Hmm tempting, lol. I noticed Innovative marine has 40% off tanks so l am going to take advantage of that and go with the 170 INT. Same footprint as the waterbox, aluminuim stand but only 21” tall vs 25” which I actually prefer! Best of all, it’s like $4000 cheaper! I’ll figure out moving it. This tank should be lighter and the stand is in a few pieces I should be able to move.
  2. It’s a concrete high rise from 2007 so no need to worry about floors and weight. It’s actually going up against a concrete support beam too. 72” x30 would be awesome but would be a tad too big for my space. 60x30 or 72x20 we’re about the biggest I could squeeze without it seeming too much. Btw, your tank was great and your stand was awesome. I remembered liking it when I traded with you a while back.
  3. I am going to upgrade my tank to probably a WaterBox LX 240.5, which is a 60"Lx30"Wx25"H tank with an aluminum stand, 500+lbs and 400+lbs respectively. I'm excited but was thiking how am I going to get this from the curb to my condo? I was thinking of ordering thru saltwateraquarium.com (vendor!) to take advantage of about $500 in gift cards/points (and no sales tax), but then I am not sure how I will move this in my condo building as they say they'll drop it off at the curb or for $150, they'll put it in the garage or in your front door but no stairs or elevation changes (does thru the halls and up the elevator count?). Then I run the risk of having a hard time finding a group of people to help me move it, probably a week day delivery during business hours. Maybe they do Saturday deliveries or I hire professional movers and hope the truck isn't late? I'll have to call WaterBox and see if they have details. Other option would be buy thru a local store - do any LFS do ordering and delivery/moving into a spot in the house? If so, is it reasonable in pricing or crazy labor rates? Nice thing is the stand for this tank is preassembled.
  4. If I was to put money on it, I would bet a lot that nothing would happen, but that small chance will likely have me up at night or panicking every time the dishwasher empties the tub, lol.
  5. Actually talked it over with the wife and we are going to end up rearranging and swapping out some furniture, which makes it a good time to upgrade tanks and set up a new tank in a different spot. With that, I can get a deeper tank which makes me actually want to upgrade now. Problem before was there was not enough room for anything deeper (front to back) than a 20". With the new spot, I can go 30", so I may try and find a 60"x30" tank.
  6. Not the best pic it, It looks like it’s at the bevel of the front glass only, but it’s dead center of the front panel. from the front? The seal looks perfect, but under where the front glass attaches to the bottom pane. Could have been like this since I got it in 2018, or could be recent… either way, it’s bothering me. also with Red Sea’s response to those tanks that do give way, I wouldn’t trust what they say anyways.
  7. I was just reading about someone having a front panel seam break on a RedSea Reefer - not the same model as my 450, but not the first RedSea tank I have read about busting at the seam. With my tank being 4, almost 5 years old, I decided to look over my seams pretty thoroughly just in case. From the front, the all look perfect, BUT one of the seals on the bottom makes me nervous. So dead center of the front panel where most of the pressure would be, the seem from the bottom pane to the front, has a slight, what I may call a crevasse in the silicone. It's pretty small difference, but its only in the dead center of the tank and you can only see it because the light comes through just a little more than anywhere else. I am not sure if it's the silicone starting to pull away from the edge, or just a coincidental anomaly... but being on the 5th floor with 100+ gallons of saltwater... I don't want to tank the chance of having to apologize to dozens of people living next to me or below me. This situation is a little more risk than I am comfortable with so I think I just want to mitigate that risk with a better built, top braced tank. Is there any local stores that sell larger tanks in stock? I am not sure I want to wait to have something custom made or ordered from a manufacturer? Ideally, a standard size 125g reef ready would be perfect for me.
  8. I would imagine a vinegar bath, and then wiping around the seams with diluted bleach would probably do a good enough job. I imagine much of the bacteria from the turtles might not survive in saltwater?
  9. I’d make sure the 55g is thoroughly cleaned otherwise great plan. I’ve used a 75g turtle tank for my first reef tank and it was fine.
  10. I moved my tank across the country in 2019, and I agree that if you could move the current tank so you have time to set up the upgraded tank, add water, make sure there are no leaks and maybe even cook some new rocks, that would make your life easier to not worry about the current livestock until the new tank is ready to receive. I moved my 116g into 2 20g long tanks plumbed into eachother, then moved them all to the big tank once I got it up and running, up to temp and even had rock in there for a week or so... then moved everything in and it seemed to go well, even for the Acropora.
  11. I am a sucker for Platygyra and the other maze brain species or a lobophyllia for the sand bed. Hydnophora are less common but nice too. If you want something weird or different, branching cyphastrea are pretty different along with a pavona like the mint pavona.
  12. I love those stax rocks. I use them as huge 'growout disks' on the bottom of my tank
  13. lol I always want more coral but Want what I have to grow out to big colonies so I’ll probably have to get rid of stuff over time… or upgrade. I would love a big Australophyllia wilsoni colony but those are hard to come by unless you want to drop a thousand or more lol
  14. To add to jhOU 1. its not uncommon for fish with similar eating interests to fight... but it will probably cool down over time. Extra feeding can help keep everyone happy 2. only thing to worry about nems is getting caught in powerheads and stinging other things. They will move to a spot they like. Often when stressed they'll hide from light 3. not sure about foxface, but I have lots of fish that blow bubbles... not idea why, except my clown. She does it to beg for food.
  15. FWIW, turns out his wife is 9 weeks pregnant, which is heart breaking. His sister put up a GoFundMe, and I think the Reefbuilders site added the link at the end of his Obit. I felt terrible after hearing that so I donated a small bit.
  16. Vid I did the other day in the morning with the blues up. Uploaded not as clear as the source vid from my phone... ?‍♂️
  17. What type of clam? A huge derasa would do well on the sand bed right there in the middle. probably easier to find than a maxima as well (less likely to die as well)
  18. I imagine doing that much moving around can be stressful, but long term, it will make you happy.
  19. I can parrot the bare bottom unless a specific reason. I like the look of sand and have Halichoeres melanurus wrasse which needs sand. needless to say, after about a year and a half, I'm slowly removed the sand except for a small contained corner for the wrasse to sleep in. The ugly stage will clear up fast - one day things will just start to click.
  20. Reducing salinity is easy, either do water changes with 35ppt or remove a liter of saltwater a day and replace with RO fresh water.
