  1. So do these tanks have an acrylic backing on them? I can’t seem to get a clear answer. If so, does it look like it can be removed if a smaller weir is placed over the overflow
  2. Added a CO2 scrubber since my apartment is so closed up in the winter. In the summer, it's not as bad, but the winter, the CO2 concentration is well over 1000 in my place. I would love to just run a line to outside, but not possible in the building. Not sure if that's it, but haven't had issues since, so I'm not looking to change.
  3. I dose to get it up when it drops, otherwise it would be zero and phos would be high. I don't think prior stuggles had anything to do with parameters. I think it was 100% bacterial issue causing STN. Furan-2 dips stopped STN in some corals and once I got my pH up and lets things settle more, nothing STNed. Mike Paletta and Sanjay talked about mysterious STN that started in one coral and slowly moved to the next, which is what I experienced. I think the hypothesis is the depressed pH allowed infectous bacterial to grow on the tissue, while increased pH may ward off those bateria and promote healthy bacteria to compete for space. All I know is nothing really changed on a large scale except time and pH monitoring and have not really lost anything since.
  4. Alk is around 8ish plus or minus... usually minus Calcium around 400ish Mag 1350 nitrate 10ish phosphate 0.15ish pH depends on when my scrubber media is changed - usually peaks between 8.1 and 8.3, dips as low as 7.8 I use a trident to monitor but I am getting accelerating growth so always increasing 2 part.
  5. This tank’s days are numbered but still enjoying it until everything gets moved over. Was doing a water change and some of my (relatively) newer acros are really taking off so I snapped a few pics. Colors are all off but still looks nice.
  6. That would be awesome. I have 3 flat dolly carts for Lowe’s but the wheels are not huge and can’t always make it over the thresholds with out a little lifting. I’m in safety and health consulting so I am applicable to all businesses
  7. Says >600lbs for the crate but that includes the stand and shipping crate material... so I am guessing ~100 for the stand? and maybe 100 for the wood and pallet... leaving around 350-450 lbs. I will hit you up when I get a shipping date. I am assuming it will be during the week. The building is letting me park it in the loading dock if its not being used, so if they deliver during a week day, I can probably let it set there until any time that day. The only obstacle I can imagine is the door thresholds, which can be thick, and the parking garage door. So likely will have to put this thing on a set of carts and set it on one side. Doors are 36", but this is 30" wide plus the 3.5" overflow box.
  8. When I ordered it said 12-16 weeks on the page... I have heard nothing since. So I am assuming March or April? I will definitely hit you up for help! Good news is I have an elevator so no steps... bad news is it has 19 mm (3/4") glass on all sides and 22mm glass on the bottom so this thing might be heavy AF.
  9. I'd strike out the powder blue, they can be mean in large tanks let alone a tank on the lower end of their recommended tank size. Blue tank might work, but they can get huge as well so long term, it may get fussy. I will say my H. melanurus Wrasse eats bristle worms. I still have them, but not as many in my DT as before. I see bristles sticking out of his mouth from time to time. It needs only an inch or 2 of sand. Other than that, no other comments. You may consider a blue throat trigger or a pair of them. Fun to watch.
  10. Fwiw I recently ordered some inverts from saltwateraquarium.com and they were all huge and healthy. The emerald crabs were among the largest I have seen. I ordered a bunch of stuff that arrived great and they included extra snails, but my only gripe was I ordered 5 Mexican turbos but got 3 Mexican turbos and 3 zebra turbos.
  11. my favorite correlation =/= causation: decline in pirates causes climate change My only issue is emerald crabs don’t live more than a year in my tank… but I did have several fish that may slowly pick them off. Otherwise great addition to CUC
  12. If your tank is big enough, some tangs and rabbit fish eat them. My yellow tang destroys them. also, fighting algae thru nutrient control isn’t always a good idea because you’ll starve algae and coral at the same time.
  13. Let me know how the skimmate fertilizer thing goes. I have banana plants in my place that need lots of fertilizer but I imagine the salt might make them unhappy.
  14. I will say having a tang will help keep your rocks clean - I have a yellow tang that eats every type of macro algae I can find. Not a spec of algae in my display, while my frag tank has plenty. Tangs are probably the best member of a clean-up crew followed by either Mexican turbos or an urchin
  15. I would love a 6 - 8' tank, just no room in my condo for one, lol. 5' gives me a lot of the big tank feel at lesser of a foot print. I would be cool with a 4' tank, but not 3' if that makes sense.
  16. Good point. That's another reason I went with 21" vs 25" - I won't need to spend that much more to my additional lighting setup!
  17. From what I have heard - only a sea horse really benefits from a tall tank - but i remember someone saying tangs can act weird in short tanks, like a frag tank. 4 foot tank should be fine for something like a single smaller tang: yellow, tomini, kole, purple, one-spot foxface (close enough) etc. I think the difference in 3 foot to 4 foot is huge. 5 foot is a little better than a 4, 6 ft is a good deal better than a 5 (maybe some larger tangs and multiples), etc. IMO, difference between a 20" tall tank and 24" or more is how tall corals can grow before needing to be trimmed. I opted for a 21" tank vs 25" tall tank on my upcoming upgrade. I have a 21" tall Reefer 450 and like it. I can reach the bottom with out needing assistance.
  18. I have some inexpensive but colorful Favites. They’re super underrated for color and speed of growth (we’ll speed for LPS)
  19. Says 12-16 weeks. I guess made to order? I've seen others say they have shipped within a week tho. I wonder if they're doing model refresh with it being 40% off. Online retailers don't carry the larger IM tanks anymore.
  20. Lol, when I make decisions, I jump on it. I've always been that way and usually turns out for the best.
  21. Pulled the trigger - 60"L x 30"D x 21"H. I decided on the external overflow vs internal. I won't be able to put it as close to the wall, but I will gain a lot of space in the tank. the INT version have a false back wall like an AIO for some reason even tho the drains are all centered. Silly design, so the EXT it is. https://www.innovative-marine.com/shop/EXT-170-Aquarium-w-APS-Stand-White-Made-to-Order-p238804313
  22. Sweet tank. How do you like the IM tank? I just ordered the 170 EXT version.
