Thanks! I got the idea for it here on WAMAS!

Light hangers, before I painted them... Here goes some plumbing. More elbows than I'd like but oh well... Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk

Yes! I keep hearing good things about those but have never had any.

Thanks! I am not good at putting stuff away or organizing so my basement setup at the other house was a huge mess. Buckets and fish tank junk everywhere. I'm hoping this will make it easier for me to have a cleaner looking setup. The open space above the sump is especially nice. I didn't have any room to do things in the old setup. I have a roller mat filter I want to try out and it wouldn't fit under the old stand. Then I got a bigger skimmer and had to pipe it out the side of the stand. It was a mess.

Here is a rough floor plan of the layout. Then, since it hasn't rained for 3 weeks I decided it was safe to wash and dry my sand. So I washed it and left it outside yesterday...and it rained ALL day Here is the water changing station. It's hard to get a good picture in this room with my phone. Here is a look at the other end of the room, that backs up to the fish tank. It's full of junk because the movers put a ton of stuff in here. Last night I pulled a lot of the OSB down to get a look at the wiring in the walls, plus I need to add a couple of dedicated circuits. I hope to get the outlets wired in tonight and plumbing should begin in the next day or so.

Maxspect 200 Series Gyres and Controller
Rob A replied to FirstContact's topic in General Discussion
What was the cord issue they improved? I have 2 gyres and on one of them the black cord insulation is all frayed and torn where it connects to the "powerhead". I have no idea why or if it might be related to the issue you mentioned. -
I have a few Hydor Koralia propeller style pumps lying around and those are the worst when it comes to starting backwards. Maybe newer ones are better, I don't know, but every time we had a power flicker or if I turned the pumps off for some reason those things would start up and run backwards. I've even seen a couple in displays at pet stores running backwards. So for propeller pumps I think DC is the way to go but I have limited experience...Hydor, Jaebo, Marineland, Danner, Maxpsect & Ecotech...or well, maybe it's not that limited now that I have typed those all those, but I haven't had any other brands and I've heard great things about some other brands. In the Danner Mag centrifugal pumps they put a little rubber flapper thing in the volute which I assume is to compensate for possible impeller direction changes, so no troubles there.

I have only played around with waves a little in a 24 x 24 x 14 frag tank and it seems like the pulsing (on/off) of the pump had to be like 5 to 6 seconds. I assume the size of the tank makes a difference, bigger tank longer pulse?

Oh, the garage door opens out to garage and the other is a slider so all should be good.

Recently we moved (locally) and my 220 gal tank will not fit in the space that we have chosen at the new house. There is a walled off area in the garage on the backside of the wall where the tank will go, which I want to use for the sump, filtration, etc. It's a 5 x 11 space so there should be room for my sump, water changing station, etc. Here is the current state of things. My livestock and corals have been in these 150 and 50 gallon holding tanks for 10 weeks and are not super happy. The decision to get a new tank was made after the move and it took about 8 weeks to get the tank so that was bad planning on my part. Here is the new 150 gal acrylic tank. I had it upgraded to have 3/4" front and sides and an external overflow. It is really beautiful but it's hard to see it while it's wrapped... The stand was made by WAMAS member Tom39 and is awesome. He made it "paint grade" but I felt it was good enough to stain (lots of stuff in my house is just stained wood, so, you know, it matches). I just have to replace (swap out) a trim board just under the top edge there where the stain is missing, and put the doors back on of course. Top view. Not a great shot but more pics will follow. I will finally get to set up my Theiling Roller mat filter that I got for Christmas!!! I was unable to set it up at the other house.

Hair algae is common in new tanks. You usually have to let it runs it's course. Scrape and pull out what you can and eventually it goes away.

Another method to defy gravity is to drill holes through the rocks and put a Plexiglas rod through the holes, like a rock shish-kabab.

If you filled it up to 2 inches away from the top then about 28 gallons. The formula is L x W x H in inches then divide by 231 to get gallons. Artfully acrylic makes acrylic ones. Don't know who makes glass. Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk

If you have a sump you can put a small clip on fan over it, or heck, just about any fan that will fit. Increases evaporation slightly. They also sell some little fans designed specifically for this and some that are stylish enough to go on the display tank that you wouldn't necessarily have to try and hide.

The main things I would consider here are; -the extra heat added to the water (since it's a small volume it might be an issue) -how often the strainer/filter will become clogged -whether or not the flow can be diffused or aimed the way you want -available room in the tank

Drilling: safest ideal hole sizes by tank size
Rob A replied to treesprite's topic in Do It Yourself
I drilled a hole for a 1" bulkhead in the side of a 10g but was constantly worried that the weight of the piping would flex/strain the glass enough to crack it. It was supposed to be a temporary setup but it was up for over a year. Although I managed it I wouldn't advocate drilling one that big in a 10 gal because of the weight/flexing issue. If you absolutely had to I would make a brace by drilling the same size hole in a piece of plexi or actual glass that is a little bigger than the bulkhead flange and silicone-ing it over the hole in the tank, and clamp it down (slowly!) with the bulkhead fitting. I had a crack that ran between two 1.5" bulkheads that were about 2 inches apart in the side of a 40b and I made a brace that covered both holes and ran it for 4 years until I sold the tank. -
I like it! Are the finished panels attached to the 2 x 4 frame?

Yes! The lightning left those marks on the grass.

Wow! That was a lot of destruction. I'm glad you are recovering! I'm surprised (and relieved) that that sort of thing doesn't happen more often based on the amount of storm activity we have. At the school I work at we had a lightning strike on the football field that left a 2 foot deep hole and a water geyser. I have no idea why it chose that spot on the field. The lightning hit the buried sprinkler system wiring which happens to run alongside a 2 inch and a 1.5 pvc line. It blew the pipes apart and the electrical charge made it's way back to control panel that was almost 100 feet away and blew the controller apart. Also, a 48 port switch at home?! I thought I was a boss for having an 8 port switch, lol.

Yes, I was in a state of disbelief for a bit and had to keep looking at it lol. -

Thanks Trish! Bruleyii-All of the fish and rocks were moved over the space of 30 minutes to an hour but because of the layout of the tub they are in (egg crate cover, another tub on top and lights) I can't see the fish very well so it took me a week to realize it was in there. I tried to post a picture of the layout but Tapatalk wasn't letting me load a picture. We are just waiting for artfully acrylic to finish making a new tank and then they will have a new home. The old tank won't fit where we wanted it to in the house. -
My wife and I moved (locally) and during the process of breaking down my 220 gal tank I removed all the rock, and once the rock was out of the tank I took a head count and realized my 4 or 5 inch hippo tang was gone. I haven't lost any fish in awhile but I figured something must have happened so I sadly collected the fish that were in the tank and along with about 5 large buckets of rock I moved everything to the new house. Just a few weeks earlier I had self righteously pasted the "Don't buy a Dory" message from MASNA on my Facebook profile so now I relay felt stupid. I haphazardly tossed the rocks into a 150 gal Rubbermaid tub full of new water and then acclimated the fish. Fast forward about a week and I look in the top and here is my hippo swimming around! All I can figure is it must have wedged into a rock and then made the trip in a bucket of rocks, with no water, and survived the rock "stacking" in the holding tub, along with being introduced into new water without acclimation. From the time the rocks were pulled out of the tank until the time they were re-submerged in the tub was easily a 1/2 hour. I don't know what to say about it, it seems impossible that it could have survived all of that.

I think YHSublime has done one with the Edge. There is a thread here somewhere.
