  1. Just some advice, and you may know this already, some of the Surfaces come with Windows RT 8.1 and you can't install anything but apps (like how an ipad works) so you might want to get one without the RT designation. My wife has a Surface RT and becuase of it's small size she likes to use it instead of a laptop when she travels to conferences to do power point presentations since you can plug in a flash drive and also a cord for the projector (with an adaptor). I wanted to pull my hair out in frustration the first few times I played with it. So many swipe maneuvers to learn.
  2. I didn't absorb much what I was seeing after I saw "heart transplant", WHAT?! That sounds pretty major! Anyway, that is a sweet mixing station and looks like a great template for anyone else who wants to build one (like me). I wish you well on your impending surgery!
  3. If you have a high quality carbon filter (as opppsed to loose granular carbon) I think they tend to plug up quicker, thereby reducing flow.
  4. Welcome! Make sure you get a ticket for MACNA next month!
  5. Watch out for asterina stars. The ones I find in my tank like to eat zoas. Almost any time mine are closed up, or if a colony is thinning out there is a star on them.
  6. Wow!!!
  7. Typical reef temp should be good. I have had an engineer goby for a few years and i keep my tank at 78 to 80 degrees. I feed pellets, flakes and occasional frozen mysis and brine shrimp. He really likes the dry pellets but I don't kow for sure if he likes the other stuff. He needs a place to dig and hide, generally under rocks, to make a burrow. If he can't get under them he might not be happy. (I also feed nori sheets for my tangs but I don't think he touches that)
  8. Hello and welcome! The fish in the picture is an Engineer Goby. They start out as juveniles looking like a regular shaped fish then morph into this eel-like shape as adults. They tend to dig holes and move a lot of sand around so make sure your rocks are secure! Damsels can be pretty aggressive so I don't know what else you can do besides what you've already done (move rocks around). Perhaps others will chime in.
  9. I used to use threaded bulkheads so that I could reuse them or modify piping if need be but I ALWAYS seem to make them too tight and they end up cracking on me days or weeks later. Now I only use slip on the outside of the tank. Sometimes threaded on the inside to screw in lock line.
  10. Sorry for your loss. I lost all my fish in a dosing accident about 3 weeks ago, it sucks but give it some time.
  11. Wow! Sounds amazing! Post pics if you can!
  12. Mixing up 200 gal. Had to skip the ro and use tap water...bring on the algae bloom. A picture of the tank today. The water looks good but there are sludge bits on the rocks. If there is a silver lining to this it's that it appears my blue clove polyp infestation my be over.
  13. Update: the water got clearer each day but by Saturday the ammonia was through the roof and the few pices of Kenya tree that had been fine was suddenly droopy. I did a 200 gal water change and also drained and shop vac'd the sump, which had a lot of slime and sludge. There are still loose bits of slime clinging to the rocks but I've done my best to siphon it out. My engineer goby is still alive, hiding in the rocks but coming out from time to time. I'm going out of town for 3 weeks on Friday so I am going to have to just let it ride at some point and hope for the best.
  14. If you can stop the flow and then squirt them with a Kalk paste or the aphasia x you might get rid of them. Based on your water volume Kalk might boost you pH too much though if you use a lot.
  15. Sorry about your losses. Having just nuked my tank I know how bad it sucks.
  16. Power head clogged with goo Filter bucket Filter bucket in use Making water, with help from Sheldon
  17. Update: (from Tues, 6/30) I started up my UV sterilizer with a new bulb, and made a filter bucket that works on gravity/siphon. I don't know how effective the bucket thing is but the more gunk I can siphon out, the better. I had to clean all the pumps again as they just fill up with gelatinous goo. The skimmer started working again once I cleaned out the pump and as of this morning (7/1) the water was actually a little clearer than it had been and there didn't seem to be as much goo coating everything. During the initial 24 hours it seemed like I could clean off the glass and in a few hours it would be coated again. Here is a video of the bucket thing, I hope...
  18. Thanks! We'll see where things stand but my frag tank is pretty well stocked at the moment. I did test originally as the doser had been on another outlet in a different power bar but 2 nights ago I did some moving around of things and moved it to a new outlet. I should have tested it again to be safe. I won't make that mistake again. Something else that sucks was I just got an ip camera and had it set up that same night but not for Web access. If I had set up the Web Access I would have been watching it from work and might have noticed the haze and the fact that no one was swimming...
  19. Thanks for the well wishes. I did a 100 gal water change and tried to clean out as much slime as possible. I saw a couple of deflated anemones that look like they might actually be okay. Lots of hermits that were okay.
  20. I will add aeration asap
  21. Thanks. I had a dr appt I couldn't miss so I had to leave the house. As soon as I get back I'll get back to work on it. I don't know what to do with the water...like how much water change etc. I don't know if my rock and sand is dead etc...any more advice is appreciated.
  22. I saw my engineer goby moving but he disappeared again. I set up a big foam pad filter to clear some debris. The soft corals and a red tree sponge look fine but I'm pulling stuff and moving it to my frag tank. can you or another admin change the name of my post? It's not apex fault. It should read " I nuked my tank with improper apex coding"
  23. I just changed the "Then OFF" to "Then ON" and it shut off. I have no idea how it got switched, unless my phone did some sort of spell check magic.
