  1. It's quite a drive for me, and I've made it twice now only to find both stores closed haha. Once I got there half hour too late and other time two hours too early! But I'm not giving up! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Aand same here. Never heard of it, but page 2 of 39.. Here we go
  3. Isn't it important to give the LaCl contact time with water? I had the idea of buying about 30ft of some kind of hose, probably a 1/2" id black hose and a cheap pump, something in the MJ 400 range. putting the MJ in the sump connected to the coil of hose and putting a slow dosing pump that would drip LaCl into the hose somewhere right after the pump. Coil up the hose and add filter socks at the end of the coil. That way LaCl has about 30 feet of contact with slow moving water to precipitate and then it all gets caught in filter sock. Seems like the way to go to make sure no precipitate or LaCl ever enters the system itself, it all stays confined in the hose/filter sock. Could make sure there's no temp drop by keeping most of the coil inside the sump or if there's not enough contact time to precipitate all of LaCl, get a bigger length of hose.
  4. And in the effort of keeping old threads alive... I wanna try making this! Does anyone still bother using something like this? Or have there been any serious mishaps? I have two uses for it (neither are the DT). One - ATO for 40g breeder QT that I've recently aquired. Two - ATO for 54g rubbermaid bin of live rocks that are soaking themselves for the next foreseeable future. I figure that I need to go out of town quite often sometimes up to a week and both could use this setup just in case... Or, I could just buy float switches and pumps. Or actual ATO's.. But seems like a waste of money for something that doesn't necessarily need the hi tech approach.
  5. I may have to try that. Would be a pretty easy mod. Do you replace the intake or the output with hose? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Hmm. It's all PVC. That's weird. However the noise is literally the pump. It's coming from within it. Just loud mechanical hum that seems to carry through my entire house. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Thanks man, but that wouldn't provide the kind of flow I need. Honestly to make it work perfectly I need a pump that can do 1600 gph at 6' head. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Yeah.. I wonder if maybe I'm doing something wrong with it.. But it's running perfectly and it's very very noisy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I thought about it, but according to threads on RC about these skimmers, a dc pump won't put out the pressure required to operate it correctly Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Something just a little more overbuilt than this is holding my 220. And it could definitely hold my car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Free two day prime shipping? That sounds legit! We should all come together and get one and put live rock out of business Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. 3d printing food and plates... I'll try to say this as un geekishly as possible: anyone ever see them "materialize" food on Star Trek? Seems legit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I'm considering getting a different pump for my skimmer. The current one is starting to give me a headache anytime I walk into the room now. Quick fun facts: it's a downdraft Beckett skimmer, external and the pump must also be external. Right now, I'm using an iwaki 55 rlt and it's about the smallest pump I can use. I could go up to any size really, if there is a quiet pump that would put out the pressure of an iwaki 100... That would be even better. Anyone have any ideas? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Honestly I think I'm going to just leave it. Mirrors for looking in overflows and that's that. There isn't any huge must move tank or die issue. It would make me happy and make some things easier, that's all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Unfortunately, I'm renting the place and I can't destroy anything. This. Hmm. Could be the easiest way to go. The only thing would be, how to slide it under the stand without lifting up the entire thing at once. There's certainly no tilting it, since the back of the stand is basically sitting against the wall. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Unfortunately, moving the wall isn't possible. Something about house falling down if I do.. I was thinking, what if I get steel pipe and use it as rollers? Don't think PVC would hold up, but if I get a bunch of steel pipe pieces, should roll right to the new spot Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I was planning on doing this here: Buy 5 55 gallon trash cans at Home Depot. Unhook sump. Take return pump and hook it up to a hose. Take all the rock out and put it into one of the trash cans. I only have a few corals in there now, I could just put them in a 20g tank I have with a power head and a heater and a small wave maker. Catch all the fish I can and put them into the same 20g tank. They're all small. Take the return pump, put it into the tank and just pump all the water to each trash can. Should take no time at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. This may just be the easiest way to go. Wouldn't even need 4 people on each side, could probably do with 3. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I got a gorgonian from them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. You make it sound so easy! It might work though. The way the stand is made, it would have to be done 6 times though and I'm not sure if it would work.. I'll look into it though. Thanks Jason, I'm going to do some more research on how to accomplish this. But once I'm ready, I'll let you know. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. In all seriousness though, that's why am thinking about it now. And honestly back then I had no idea that I would ever want to move it or why I would need to. I've got a buddy Who is a construction engineer so I'm going to try to talk to him and see if he's got any ideas on how this could be done. As far as picking it up and moving it with the sand and a little bit of water, I estimate the weight of all that on the stand, with the stand, would be somewhere around 800 pounds. I'm sure I can find five other people that are capable of lifting hundred and 20 pounds 1 inch off the ground and moving it one flight sideways after it's out of the carpet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I hate you lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Yeah, I'm pretty worried about the sandstorm too. But hopefully it doesn't cause too much of a new cycle, the tank is still fairly new and there's a bunch of sand stirring critters in there already. What I was thinking is emptying out the tank right to the sand level, and then sloowwlly filling it back up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Honestly if it costs any kind of real money, I'm not that worried about it. I would like to move it, it would certainly be easier to do some things if I move it, but it's not necessary. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Yeah.. It's about 300lb of sand between the tank and sump. It would have to be a "lift and slide" since my carpet is pretty thick. But nothing 6 people couldn't easily accomplish. Could have two on each side and two in the front... The tank is new. And I made everything so it's easy to break down. But it's still a pita. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
