  1. I just opened a box of Instant Ocean Reef Crystals. Half the bags are yellow instead of white. The date code 19142 10:40 is the same. Google didn’t help much. Just some speculation about moisture and mainly about residuals after mixing. Anyone seen this? Thanks
  2. I was looking for frozen fish food near Reston and Dutchman's Reef in Sterling came up on Google. It said it was open until 7 on Sundays. I drove over and it was closed with no sign. Looking through the cracks in the door (limited viewing) it seems fairly bare. A half filled tank on the counter and a larger one that I could not tell if it had anything in it - no lights were on. Is this still open? I could not find any recent references on forums. Any recommendations for frozen fish food near Reston? I bought some from Petsmart but mostly they have food from China.
  3. I also have an extra ticket if anyone can use it
  4. Wife gave me crabs. Not sure I want to share that except here. 3 porcelain crabs.
  5. The resistors just change the power supply voltage. We swapped them to change the speed before getting the apex cable. One at max and one about half. Now we let the apex ramp them up/down. I never checked to see if the resistors affect speed when under apex control. I do not think it does.
  6. You could combine the lights onto one outlet.
  7. Well done. I like the Ethernet connector idea. Matches the aquabus using USB connectors with 12V to destroy standard USB devices.
  8. BRK showed up on the Neptune web site but their website said it is closed Monday. So I ordered one from BRS. Neptune replied to my email. If powered by another source the controller might revive it. So far I have not found a 12V supply that fits in our vast collection of electronic junk.
  9. Thanks. How does it hook up? I have never seen one. I guess we would put it in the filter loop? We are sumpless.
  10. Ice is working OK for now. It is not as hot as it could be. Just freaken humid ... but the tank doesn't care. It can coast at night. If they cannot fix the AC soon, I might take you up on your chiller offer. We are in Annandale.
  11. The large thunder storms Friday took out our power. It also blew up many of our MOVs in surge suppressors and started a fire in a smoke detector (detector still worked well!). Our Apex controller is OK, but the EB8 power strip does not work. It powers the controller but does not have any lights and, although it says it controls stuff on/off, the ports do not change. I sent an email to Neptune, but I do not have much hope it is a reconfiguration issue. We stopped by Quantum last night but they do not stock them yet. Does anyone know if a LFS stocks them? Anyone have one to sell or loan? Meanwhile, our air conditioner is dead - waiting on parts. We are adding ice bags every few hours to keep the tank temperature down.
  12. Tropical Fish Magazine has their Digital version for $.99 for Earth Day. I signed up and looked at the first issue. It has both fresh and salt water info. http://www.tfhmagazine.com/ Use code EDAY13. Says the code works until 4/29. I did not see any auto renewal "features", but I did not look very closely.
  13. One each of: Blue Yellow/Gold Pink Orange Rainbow Also interested in info on anemones. Thanks!
  14. Some cheap routers have a wifi repeater mode. It can join a network and you could plug the apex in. I think the open source DD-WRT firmware supports it.
  15. We just use the heater template with 77 low 78 high. You can tell from the current probe that it generally comes on during the night 4 or five times for about 20 minutes. During the day, when the house is warmer and the lights are on, it rarely comes on. The total max/min delta is about 1.3 degrees One degree is only 1.3% so that seems very stable.
  16. Where are they located in Annandale? They do not show up on the vendor map and their web site does not list an address. Do they have a storefront? Thanks
  17. We have ordered from them several times. Generally good experience. The prices are very good. The items have all been as described. We did have an anemone and a shrimp die - they credited the cost to the account with a code. The catch is you must enter the code to use it ... but you can only use one code per order. Since they always have some sort of sale going on you cannot use the code unless you have larger losses than the sale.
