  1. ya, seen nothing but aiptasia in the tide pool i went to. plenty of crabs here as well. one of the crabs which hitchedhiked on a rubble is now in my display picking on coraline and sponges. not sure if it is a good thing or bad thing. at least it is not eating the shrimps.
  2. maybe the customer returned a majority of the fish after the show to save some money.
  3. sweet, let me know when you go to oahu and maybe you can show me where to find the good stuff.
  4. darn, was hoping it wasnt them. you can still buy fish there i guess.
  5. wow, wish i could find pods like that in hawaii.
  6. hmm. interesting. wonder why i dont see the same thing here in hawaii. even the live rocks sold here at the local fish stores dont have any coraline in it. it just looks dirty and has a bunch of algae on them. almost like blades of grass. different than what i see at the states. have you checked out their local fish stores while you were there?
  7. if you are still interested on the avast cs1, they all come standard with the recirc kit. it is recommended you use a pump that puts out your tanks total volume per hour. a lot of people use a mj1200, but i plummed mines off of the return line to feed the skimmer. advantage with the recirc skimmer is that you dont have to keep your water level in the sump at a certain level just for the skimmer to function properly. i am sure someone from the club will have a used one for sale, and if you rather buy new, you get a discount with wamas membership. today is only the second day running it and it is already performing like my reef octopus, except on a bigger scale.
  8. hmmm, interesting read. thanks for sharing. i guess when coraline starts growing in my tank is a sign that i can start growing corals. sps maybe? haha.
  9. every time i went to roozens i only seen them on their live rocks. i never seen them in their display.
  10. yup, very short time. i think it was two days. they moved around all over my sump. i had to drain the sump and razor blade the glass to get them out and yet some still got away.
  11. as i walk around the beach and check out local divers pictures of the rocks, fish and corals i rarely see any coraline on any of the rocks around here. on the rare occasion that i spot coraline on a rock, i only see small specs and usually only one color, unlike what one sees in the aquarium these days. i did grab a couple of small rubbles with pink and green coraline to seed my tank, but why do i feel the need to have coraline growing in my tank? is it really a sign of a healthy aquarium to have coraline algae growing in your tank? why does it not grow in the ocean like how they grow in an well established tank? this is just something i been thinking about ever since i setup this tank.

  13. welp, about aiptasia. so i put some in my sump and changed my mind. i took out all that i could see and today while i was changing out the return pump i found some inside the filter chamber of my mag pump. now i am wondering if any made it to the display. those suckers are hard to get rid of.
  14. best $50 i ever spent. purchased all the parts from a sprinkler warehouse. only place where they had all the parts i needed. hooked up and no leaks. woohoo. turned off the eheim 1262 and the check valve work. have to rework everything around one of these days. not the prettiest thing to look at plus water and electricity next to each other. not sure i like it. put the avast beast of a skimmer online on the best day of the year. armys birthday. second day of breaking in and still overflows from time to time. it was so big it did not fit in the other chamber, but thank goodness for the recirc kit it will still work with about 5 inches of water. love it. so i guess the new avast cs1 comes standard with the recirc kit. i ordered a recirc kit so if anyone want to make their non recirc cs1 into a recirc skimmer i got the plate you can have for free.

  17. wow, sold as live rock?
  18. do you own one of these too? how do they get along with the flame wrasse?
  19. or you can get glass cut to fit on the back side and a glass hinge thing. not sure what it is called, but the lfs here sells it and it is for people who want to build their own glass tops.
  20. will do. eheim will be the return pump. im working a manifold so that the eheim will run all the various reactors rather than having a bunch of mj1200s running the reactors.
  21. can you add a screen to cover the overflow?
  22. or have adam make a acrylic lid for your tank if you are using leds.
  23. after biopellet reactor, the skimmer has really been picking up some nasty gunk. i only have 3 small 1 inch fish. besides biopellets, i am also going to start adding a little bit of vitamin c as well as feed food which contain garlic to the fish. this will be the before vitamin c picture of one of the zoas. i will just have to see how it does in a month to see if vitamin c actually does anything to promote zoa growth. white spots still present on the top fin of this fish. so far no scratching, eating like a pig and my hippo tang still does not have white dots on its body. avast cs1 with recirc kit came in today. spent the afternoon putting this beast together. it turned out to be a lot bigger than i thought it would be. maybe this will allow me to clean the collection cup once every 3 days than what i am doing now which is everyday. biopellet output will go straight into the skimmer. woohoo. next, put together a manifold for my return so that i can put the eheim 1262 online.
