  1. For those of you who don't already know, use code: cyber at Petsolutions for 20% order over $150 and free shipping. That makes ReefCrystals $38 and Regular Instant Ocean $32 per 200gal box shipped to your door! Plus so much other stuff on sale there that you can get for reef/other pets. Not sure when it expires...
  2. Just out of curiosity, do you still have that orange tree sponge?
  3. Ive been trying to follow this today. Sounds like overfeeding (mostly), maybe some issues from the rock (secondary, at most, to the overfeeding). Issues with salinity creeping up. Possible photo issues d/t new light fixture /increasing too much? So your present course of action is to do some WCs, trying to siphon all the extra gunk that you can from the rocks/sand, siphoning cyano off the corals, reducing photoperiod/intensity, stabilizing salinity. testing water for pH, alk, NO3, NO2, NH4 would be very helpful. Is this all what happened/where you are now/your planned course of action? If so and you do this stuff Im sure itll all settle down and be fine. Do you have any other questions? or should we let this rest for a day or two while you implement the suggestions?
  4. Is that "chiller" just utilizing evaporative cooling? No cooling element right? Cool idea...
  5. That is awesome! Looks like he may have an escapee to attend to. lol. I like the Stocky Ceriths. They seem to be hardier than those small ones and do better work-and I'll bet your buddy couldn't make a den out of those! Too funny...
  6. Nice pic! I think Fungias are wildly under-rated. Glad to see you have a nice collection going!!!
  7. Um...based on that pic (so not saying with 100% confidence) those look like Ilyanassa obsoleta which is a temperate water species that doesn't usually do well in reef systems. If yours are dark brown/black with a rounded white apex (often an obvious giveaway) you should check out these links about the black onyx / black mud snail. They seem to alright for some people but... http://www.wetwebmedia.com/snailselfaqs.htm http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-11/mg/ It is important to note that there IS a true Nassarius species that is black (Nassarius polygonatus) but its shell looks different (less rounded, wider opening, pointed black tip). Hopefully Richard can chime in to clarify any confusion...
  8. elbowdeep88 My college roommates used to say that every time they came back to the apartment I was elbow deep in tank water. It was pretty true. 88 is birth year. Fun thread to read!
  9. Personally I'm a non hermit guy. I have had these white legs before though and they seem to be no more or less agressive than the rest-though slightly bigger. standard rules apply: empty shells and stuff to eat... If you are the no hermit type then you may as well toss it in with the others...
  10. http://www.reefs2go.com/product/INV_CR_W-BOGO/Live-Saltwater-White-Leg-Hermit-Crab---Buy-1-Get-1-FREE.html ?
  11. Is there a variety of this that grows more like deer antlers vs a fan? I just noticed some red iridescent macro growing on a mushroom rock I have...
  12. just saw the thread 'WYS is not WYG' that is pinned in the 'new to WAMAS section' will pay for membership now. sorry for useless posts
  13. Hello all, Does WAMAS have a 'for sale' section where people can post items for sale? Or is it all mixed in general discussion? I might just be missing an obvious tab somewhere...if not has anyone ever thought about adding a section for this (for sale/wtb/swap)? Thanks.
  14. Nice. Good luck! It has been my favorite coral for a year since I got it. Eats like a champ, new heads sprouting all over the place. I hope they can frag it successfully to share the gem.
  15. it is a massive type not a branching type so it wont frag well. the heads aren't on one plane. Imagine setting a golfball in sand and drawing 13 circles on the part that's not in the sand...that's what it looks like when completely retracted. so even with a diamond saw if you cut out one or two heads you would be destroying several others. sorry...believe me I have looked at it with this intent several times.
  16. thanks guys. bob please PM me your contact info so I can contact you quickly if zygote cant make it by 8 tonight as scheduled. thanks

  20. Hello all, My name is Nathan. I just moved from Southern MD (where I was a member of SMMAS) to Manassas. Even after moving my nano that is jam packed with nice stuff I have finally admitted to myself that I have lost interest. I want to start a 75 but am unsure how long I will be in my current apartment. I have lots of frags that I have collected over the last year that are growing nicely. No pests, aptasia, bugs, etc. 150 MH light, no skimmer, RODI w seachem supplements. I had this posted on craigslist for a while and sold a lot of the 'beginner' corals but for some reason now my post isn't showing up anymore when searched, although it is still listed. I really want to get rid of this stuff (wife says we need to start a Christmas fund) so I am posting here after reading in the forum rules that occasionally one-time 'getting out of the hobby' threads will be allowed for non-members. If this is not OK I understand, just let me know if I should move or remove it. Thanks. Here is my CL post that isn't showing up: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/for/2621751992.html Since you WAMAS members are great, you can take an ADDITIONAL: -$10 off the second price for everything currently listed over $50 -$5 off the second price for everything currently listed $20-49 -$3 off the second price for everything currently listed $10-19. Please call, text, or email to the contact info in the CL post. I wont be able to respond to PMs as easily. I am off tomorrow (Thursday) and will be home all day. Thanks all, Nathan PS-there really is some nice LPS and SPS here...
