  1. Pretty self explanatory. Big baddest robot in all the universe. Duh
  2. Wow 2.5"! Thats real estate gold! Ah thanks for clarifying. I was unware the DB tanks had their teeth set so low.
  3. Super clean looking build so far! How much space did you save trimming down the overflow? It looks like you went from 7 slots down to 3. Sorry I thought someone asked this before but I couldn't find it. I might plan on doing something similar if my upgrade plans work out. Based on your pics, it looks like you went with the herbie style drain. I'm in no means an expert on this, so take my obversation how you will. Not meaning to offend or anything. It looks like you have your full siphon water level too high. Maybe thats why you're not getting the skimming you're looking for? I always thought the water level in your overflow should be slightly lower than the teeth of your overflow to allow the skimming to happen. Check out this link: http://gmacreef.com/herbie-overflow-reef-tank-plumbing-method-basics/ maybe it can help with your issue.
  4. I lied. Just found a dead anthia. All parameters are in check. I checked between both my salifert and API test kits. Salinity is still 1.026 and the temp is at 80, which is the norm. Making another batch of 20G to do another WC later tonight.
  5. Everything else seems to be fine. Rbta is still in his little cave though
  6. Mr. Eel has left the building :(
  7. Well I hope you're right! I liked it when it was ontop of the rock work out in the open. I guess time will tell when I get home later today. After the PH got cleaned it was a decent flow rate change so maybe the flow made it move. I'm just hoping its not dead or something by the time I come home and I have more issues in the tank. Eel is probably coming up on 1yr in July. All parameters are in check. The only thing that might need to get changed is the GFO and carbon, I'm about 2 days behind the normal monthly change of media. The eel hasn't been eating (Or not that I have seen) in about 3 weeks so I don't think it would be the GFO/Carbon. I've had the reactors up for a few months now. Nope. Tank inhabitants are PBrown Tang/ 2 clowns (1hosts the BTA) / 3 anthias and 1 red velvet wrasse. Everyone seems friendly with each other to me. Outside of the usually hierarchy checks with the clowns and anthias. Tang doesnt bother anything either.
  8. It's a skeletor moray eel. I wouldn't think its mouth is big enough to snag any of my fish. I feed the anemone maybe once a week, with a small chunk of raw shrimp. Nothing too big or fancy. It hasn't done anything but get bigger and bigger since I got it from another member last yr.
  9. So last night, my RBTA decided to move. Not move an inch, not move a little over here or there. It decided to move all the way behind the rock work into some crevice that I can only see its tentacles. It hadn't moved since I placed it in tank back in October of last year. I haven't added anything or changed anything that I would think would cause it to move. The only thing I did was the regular 20G WC, like normal. All parameters are in check. Salinity is 1.026. Only thing I noticed during the WC is my Koralia 750 was a little low of flow. Cleaned it and put it back in the tank, flow picked back up. Would something so minimal make it move? Should I try to get it to attach back to the same spot or let it just do its thing? Second issue I have is my eel. It hasn't eaten in about 3 weeks, maybe more. He used to take 1 or 2 pieces of shrimp pretty much every few days. Don't worry I still have all my fish, so I know the eel didn't eat them to keep from starving. I seem to still have my snails and what not from my CUC. It used to go crazy for shrimp pieces now it won't even come over to take a sniff. I've tried silversides as well and nothing. Any thoughts?
  10. I had a cyano issue on my rocks and sand. The 3 day light trick would work for a few then it would come back with even more. It wasn't until I changed the flow pattern and ran GFO/Carbon that it stopped coming back. Check out post #359 in my build thread. The pictures show more HA than Cyano but it was definitely there. I need to update my pictures as I have no cyano and the HA is pretty much gone. I too have much detritus on the rocks. I make it a weekly habit to use a powerhead over them before I do a water change. I would see if you can get more flow to the areas that you are having the issues and see if that changes things.
  11. So its been two weeks I've had the tang in the qt. No spots. Eats like a pig. Do I risk transfer to the DT or be proactive and treat with copper and prazi for another two weeks?
  12. Yup. Checked that first thing. 0TDS and no phosphate or anything from the water source. Only thing I can think of would be the mixing brute can. It has built up calc. deposits and I've never cleaned it, but that shouldn't be cause for concern right? I feed every other day changing what they eat (small pinch of flakes vs small small piece of Jan's Food) The eel gets about a third of a jumbo shrimp every 2-3 days. Don't have a hanna checker so can't really get a low end reading on the phosphate as the Salifert kit shows none. Only thing I can think of is the PVC housing that I have for the eel. I have yet to clean it, since its gone in the tank which was back in July of last year. I think I might need more CUC - mexican turbos to be more specific. I have a few nitrite and narssius with 2 skunk cleaners. The calc recommends 1.5cups which I've been dropping to 1cup. With the 1200 wide open I get no surface agitation like in the BRS video. it tumbles just not as well. Or not all of it tumbles just like half of it. I asked BRS and they said I should be fine and am thinking to much about it. First fish is a red velvet wrasse. I hate to tell ya (cause I'd love to own one) but its not a naso but it sure looks close to one don't it? It's actually a powder brown tang. Picked it up online from bluezoo.
  13. I change mine monthly, but I also tend to notice what you are describing. While on GFO I hardly see algae build up on glass, but usually around the monthly mark I will start to see it, then I know its time for change.
  14. I've managed to get rid of all the cyano. However, still have a gha problem. Not as much as before but still there. I have gfo and carbon running in a reactor but still having issues. My salifert test shows zero phosphate/nitrate. I've taken to scrubbing the rocks but it comes back. I think im doing something wrong with the group. I change it every month but it seems that after a week of the change the gfo doesn't tumble even with the mj1200 open all the way. I've cleaned everything thru and thru and still happens. I use the brscalc. To determine how much I need and even used less this time and still no tumbling a week after.
  15. So I finally added this guy after 3 weeks of QT. My camera skills are non existent compared to other members here so the colors of the fish dont really show: Added this guy last week to the QT, so far no signs of any issues:
  16. I actually had Rob come out and help me with the pvc housing for my eel. To this day the eel has yet to use it. LOL almost been a year and nothing. He rather prefers his one cave on the right side of the tank. Though lately hes been moving and out in the open. I think hes getting to big for his cave and looking for somewhere new. That being said if I was to do it over..I would skip the pvc house. Will need the try this. Never thought about cleaning it that way. I have rocks on egg crate and about 4" bed. +1 have the skeletor as well and have the rocks on crate. Nothing has come down yet...
  17. I got 2 Nemos in my tank. How many Nemos and Dorys do you have in yours?
  18. So I have been battling HA and cyano for awhile now and am finally getting the HA under control. Cyano is still an issue but it shows up in 2 spots which I'm assume is due to little or no flow. I took a toothbrush to some rock inside the tank and scrubbed some HA off. I noticed all that other crud coming off the the rock as well. I took a power head and basically blasted all the rock work inside the tank and you wouldn't believe the amount of crap that came off. Now I have all these suspended particles in my column and waiting for drain to suck everything down to the filter sock and the skimmer to skim that crap out. I assume I don't have enough flow over the top of the rocks to keep the detritus off the rocks which may explain the algae issues. This was probably 6-10months worth of crap I just suspended into my column. Would I see any issues from blasting all that old crud? I know most ppl take a turkey baster and do exactly what I just did. I plan on adding this to my weekly routine. I have 40G of water mixed for a WC if need be.
  19. Our building is one of those fancy certified green LEED buildings. They don't let you have space heaters here either...
  20. Anybody have one? What pump are you running it with? The reviews for the MJ1200 BRS recommends are mixed. Some say there's not enough flow and end up going with a mag 3. Any thoughts?
  21. +1 on the membership We have a BRS group buy going on now and you could save some serious cash.
  22. 2 anthias still looking like death. Upside down, corner of the tank. Still breathing though.
