  1. My parameters have been pretty steady with what I think is low dkh. As of last night. All API tests except magnesium which is Salifert. Salinity - 1.026 I use an ATO and this stays pretty much rock solid. PH - 8.3-8.4 (hard to read the color scale accurately) Alk - 7 dkh Calcium - 480 Magnesium -1200 Nitrate - 0 Phosphate - 0 I don't really believe these 2 to be true but I figure if it's undetectable it's not a problem... I'm using Brightwell NeoMarine salt mix. I do a 4.5 gallon water change once a week on a 29 gallon BioCube. Would dosing Kalk in the ATO water raise my Alk without throwing anything else out of whack?
  2. I know I'm a little late to the game here but my local Ace hardware cuts glass to order. You may want to check yours.
  3. Can anyone iD this macroalgae? I've had it for years on this one rock. It seems to grow in spurts. I've pulled it out when it gets too big and it grows right back. I actually like it so I'm not interested in eradicating it, just curious what it is. i've tried searching google images but haven't seen anything that looks exactly like it. It's pretty tough stuff, not fragile at all.
  4. Have you tried spot treating out of the tank ant full strength? I'd do that before trying a full strength dip. Just take the frag out and douse the algae with full strength H2O2 using a dropper or pipette. Let it sit for a minute or two then put back in the tank.
  5. The eye stalks on that shrimp lead me to believe that it's not a Pistol but a Mantis. The white star is most likely some type of tube worm. The brown thing looks like it might be a Majano anemone. The worm is harmless, the other two, not so much. If that is a Mantis it will kill and eat any fish you put in there.
  6. My 12 year old daughter has been hounding me to get a long spine urchin. I don't want it because I'm afraid it's going to knock everything over.
  7. I got frag about 3 years ago or more, maybe 5 heads. They did pretty well in my old tank until I started letting it go they probably multiplied to about 15 or so polyps then didn't do much until I put them in this new tank about a month ago now they're taking off.
  8. You can spot treat at full strength as well.
  9. Looks like a bristleworm to me, check out this thread on RC about Eunicids. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1775803
  10. I'm going to give him a reprieve for now and keep an eye on everything. I haven't seen him since he was on the glass the other night anyway.
  11. Looks like I'm going starfish hunting Wish I'd known that last night when he was on the front glass. He was nowhere to be found this morning.
  12. Looks like I acquired an asterina star at FFE as well. Must have been in the rubble. What's the general consensus on these guys? I've seen many conflicting opinions as to whether they're pests or not. I'm hoping it's a keeper, my daughter will LOVE it when she sees it.
  13. 7. is definetly Heliopora, check out the blue skeleton.
  14. 4. Digtata 7. Heliopora, not Monti Cap Not sure about 5., 6 looks like Acropora.
  15. I kept a semi-accurate list of all the ones I got. I think I came pretty close to getting one of everything. Here it is. Acropora (not sure what type) maybe once it's settled in it can be ID'd Heliopora, this was the one with the blue skeleton. Digitata Assorted Montipora Capricornus pieces. Assorted Chalice pieces Trumpet Gorgonian 3 types of Favia incuding prism. One of them glowed pink under royal blue LEDs last night. Dendrophyllia, I didn't actually take one but at the end I took a bag of rubble that turned out to have a couple heads in it so I'm going to go ahead and see how they do.
  16. This was my second FF and there's no way I'd have ever guessed that it would be even better than the first one, but sure enough it was! Thanks WAMAS!
  17. I'm hoping that since this is the only one I've ever seen in my tank that reproduction isn't a problem.
  18. I caught this guy eating a nassarius snail. I'm pretty sure the nassarius was killed by him. I watched this guy grow from about 1/4" to his current size never having a clue he could be a problem. After some googling I think it's a whelk but I figured i'd get some other opinions.
  19. I bought a 90 LED kit that a guy started messing with and gave up. I easily removed and reused the LEDs from the heat sink. Just get under there with a putty knife and they pop right off. I re-"plastered" them with no issues.
  20. You can't imagine... My $20 was realized 10x over just at the fragfest last summer. That's not including the great deals I've done with members since then. Welcome to WAMAS!
