  1. I can tell you what I WOULDN'T do based on experience with my 14 gallon biocube. I realize that the 29 is over 2x the size but I think all of this would still hold true. 1. Don't put a Domino Damsel in it. Mine's grown to 3x it's size in a few months and is a total p#*!k to the other fish. (I knew better and did it anyway, it was so small and cute when I bought it) 2. Don't put a Six-Line Wrasse in it. Before I put him in I had a decent population of micro critters, pods, worms, etc., ALL GONE now. I once tried to add a pair of sexy shrimp and he ate them both in less than 5 minutes. I still can't believe he got them in his tiny little mouth. I also got a bunch of micro stars from Der Abt (thanks) and haven't seen a single one since I put them in. I'm guessing he got those as well. He's beautiful and has a cool personality but I think he's just too ravenous for a nano reef.
  2. As the neighbor, I really wish you hadn't phrased that the way you did. LOL
  3. Ha, I didn't notice it until you guys pointed it out!
  4. Video of my Emerald crab attacking hermit crabs last night. I was surprised so I recorded it on my iPhone.
  5. I'm running Chemipure Elite but it's been a couple months so I'm probably due to change it. I also figured out the biggest problem, turns out my submersible fuge light died, not sure how long it's been so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.
  6. Thanks. API tests show 0 for nitrates & phosphates (not that that means anything)
  7. Not sure why I'm having trouble posting pics. I do it on other forums all the time.
  8. Upon close inspection tonight it seems that algea & cyano is the likely culprit in both cases. They didn't look this bad yesterday.
  9. My neon GSP has been closed up for over a week now. I did some research and apparently it's not that unusual for them to do it for a couple days at a time but this seems to be dragging out. I do have a cyano problem at the moment and my Sinularia hasn't been open as much as usual but everything else looks fine including some SPS's, mushrooms, xenia, acans, and zoas. Should I try some Red Slime Remover? I was hoping I could get rid of it naturally but I don't want to lose any corals waiting for it.
  10. I think you're doing a great job. No course correction necessary. Steady as she goes.
  11. I added a peppermint tonight along with the sexy pair. Luckily for him he's huge. He's been hiding in the rock since I put them in, I guess time will tell how he makes out. I'm pretty bummed about this. I love the wrasse, it's beautiful and fun to watch but if it means I can't add some of the things I really want, he may have to go. It's just a 14g Biocube so it just may not be the best place for him.
  12. Yea, I'm wondering if he's what killed my Anemone Crab last month too. It was too big for him to eat but i suppose he could've terrorized him to death.
  13. I just watched my not very large Six-Line Wrasse devour two Sexy Shrimp I added 5 minutes ago!!! I hope he enjoyed that $16 entree. His belly looks like he's pregnant now
  14. I'd say that's an effective treatment. Could you elaborate on the process?
  15. I hope you're right, but considering the %$#* poor record of utility outages in the DC area I highly doubt it.
  16. I was at the beach last weekend and wanted to stop by on Sunday but they weren't going to be in until after 4:00 and I didn't want to push my luck with the traffic. I'll get in there to check it out someday. I'd think it would make more sense to be open on Sundays and closed one day during the week in he summertime, but what do I know? There may not be enough walk-in business to make it worth it. Or it could be a religious thing like Chick-Fil-A. At any rate it looks like a really cool place!
  17. I'd love to see a close up.
  18. What is the blue thing in the upper right hand corner?
  19. Definitely using the test correctly. First drop of solution #2 turns blue. More interesting than that, the 10 drops of solution #1 turns cloudy before I do anything else. This test was performed twice last night with the same exact results. I think it's important to note that while the API test may be inaccurate, this same exact test performed the same exact way 2 days prior behaved as expected.
  20. It's entirely possible that I put more than 5ml in as I wasn't measuring. There's clearly a white dusting of precipitate all over everything.
  21. Ok, so Monday my calcium was about 300 ppm. I'd just bought the API reef kit that day, it hadn't been tested before then. After much online research I determine that I needed to dose the tank (14g biocube). On Tuesday I picked up some Kent liquid calcium & 2.2 gals of Nutri-Sea water. I was going to get a Mg test kit too but the 2 stores I went to didn't have them. Anyway I did a 2 gallon water change then went to pour a couple drops in and ended up putting in about a teaspoon or more. Didn't think too much of it. I get home from work tonight with a new Salifert Mg test kit I picked up at lunch and test both Mg and Ca. Mg is 1200ppm and Ca is >20ppm. I tested the Ca twice thinking maybe I did something wrong. I finally put 2 and 2 together and realized what I'd done. You can see a dusting of calcium all over the tank. My calcium is down to almost nothing, and my PH is down to 8.0 from 8.3, everything else is about the same. Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate are 0, dKH is 16, Phosphate is .25ppm. 2 Clowns, Hermits, and Snails seem OK, corals don't look too happy but not horrible. Question is... What now? Water change? Start dosing again using CORRECT amounts? Something else?
  22. Hope you don't mind me jumping in. I'd love to see an app that can store water parameter, dosing/supplement data and the ability to graph it all out over time.
  23. I do, can you bring it tomorrow? What do you want for it?
