  1. I believe you can do the same with the Apex. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
  2. So it is about time for me to get a controller for my 90 reef. I have read a bit about them and I am kind of torn. My final 3 are above. If you had to pick one for yourself which would you pick. I am personally leaning towards the Apex but i can be persuaded otherwise. You can throw another name that is not in the list. The only request I have is that it has to cost less than 500. Thanks
  3. It's funny how everyone it's complimenting the corals. Those clowns are awesome. Where did you get them from?
  4. I doubted it myself but ammonia should have started to affect the fish gills and at least I would have noticed some distress in one of the fish. Maybe is something that I can't see but they are all lively and the tangs are grazing on the live rock and everything.
  5. That is probably it. Tide fans are famous for doing retarted stuff. . Than again it would not be my friend. Ok so Chad made a good point. I got to the bottom of the live rock situation. It has been running in a reef for a long time prior to purchase. So probably is already well cured and its taking care of the ammonia and nitrites.
  6. I am venting now. I am no reef expert by any means but I know some stuff. I got my buddy involved in the hobby and he got a 90 gallon tank with a wet dry filter about 3 weeks ago. I went on and on how you got to be patient and careful in this hobby and what not. Anyways, he filled it up with tap water (against my advice) and added salt. Let it run for about 2 days and went to the local fish store and bought a yellow tang, a niger triggerfish, a hippo tang, 3 demsels and 30 lbs of live rock. I went ballistic on him for not letting the tank complete the cycle and how the ammonia is going to kill is fish etc etc. 3.5 weeks later the fish are all happy and eating. He feeds his fish every day. I can tell that his tank is going thru the cycle because there is diatom blooms and all kinds of algae everywhere. I know that the hippo is not the hardiest of fish and I was expecting that to be the first to fall. He obliviously did not do any kind of water parameters testing but I would assume that at least ammonia would be present at 3 weeks. It's a little surprising to me.
  7. Very nice color on those corals. Can we please see a full tank pic??
  8. there is a lot of dead material in those rocks that can release phosphates in the water. If you are not worried about phosphates put it straight in the tank but I recommend nuking the rock first. A nice vinegar bath for a couple of weeks will do the job.
  9. The tank looks great. Love the color and scape. I am not a tang police by any means but I see 3 tangs in there. Isn't that a no no on a 60 cube.
  10. The frag is near the surface about 6-7" below it. I will move it further and see what happens. Thanks
  11. I have modified the fixture to have my 2 inner bulbs and the 2 outer bulbs turning on at the same time. So the ge does not turn on during the "sunrise"/"sunset" period.
  12. Hello I have a 8 bulb T5 tek fixture in my tank. From front to back blue+, blue+, ULV 75/25, blue +, purple plus, ge 6500k, blue + aquablue I run the 4 fixtures below for 1 hour than all the fixtures for 9 hours than 1 more hour of the same fixtures. I have a 90 gallon tank 24"deep. Is this 2 much light? The reason I am asking is that I have a SPS frag that its turning a little white. I have heard of sps bleaching but this frag came from a system with a Metal Halides I don't have a par meter but I was wondering if you have any suggestions. blue+ blue +, purple plus, blue +
  13. My tank is 48x18x24. I don't place any SPS on the bottom due to the height but LPS do fine there. Doing a T5/LED combo could be really nice. RapidLED have 48" aluminum heat sinks that you can use. I think that if you place 2 LED strips (12 or 24 LED's per strip depending on your budget) in the middle and the T5s on the side of it it would look really nice. I was thinking of doing this once I get tired of what I have right now.
  14. I have a large CPR fuge. My water outlet bulkhead broke yesterday and I need a new bulkhead. It's about 1-1/4". Do you guys know any stores in theNorthen VA are that sell bulkheads? I am trying to avoid buing it online for now. Thanks
  15. If you want to upgrade to LED's you will need something in a range of $600-800 for a diy fixture that can take care of SPS. (about 72LED's) I have a 8 bulb T5 TEK on my 90 that I have modded with some fans and I really like it. I can combine bulbs to get the color I want and the fixture runs cool now. I would change T5HO bulbs every 16 months if you have a good fixture that runs active cooling. Take a look at 120 gallon tanks. It will be cheaper than a custom tank and it will give you very decent real estate. You can drill it if you don't like build in overflows.
  16. Thanks for the input. I will replace the XP-G with the XR-E.
  17. Cool, thanks for the pictures. I can see the difference and I do like the blue look a little better.
  18. I will prob get a 23"x 4" heatsink from rapidled. I am getting the dimmable driver and I am still deciding if I am doing 8/6 or 7/7 LED's. XP-G R5 for the white and XR-E for the royal blue.
  19. Thank You. I will be going with the 14 LEDs. Waiting on Uncle Sam for some tax money.
  20. I will be upgrading the 29 biocube to LED from Rapidled. I will only be keeping LPS in there and I can't decide to go for the 12 or 24 LED's. What do yo guys think? I know that light spread is going to be somewhat of an issue with only 12 LED's. I was thinking to get the 80 optics.
  21. Welcome sir. WAMAS is a great place to get your questions answered.
  22. Same here 65w pc 6500K. Chaeto and caulpera grows really well.
  23. I got a few sps frags in the last meeting but none of them is glued or mounted on a frag plug. They are just 1" cut pieces. I currently have them in my DT. My live rock has lots of holes so I don't have a problem keeping them upright. Do I need a frag plug and do i need to super glue them on the rock?? Other than visual is there any other benefit doing that? Thanks
