  1. If your clams need a temporary home. I have space. I would just like to check my chem levels first. I've gotten some new fish, and have overfed a bit lately. So there is red algae. My maxima is showing no signs of a problem.
  2. I have a fluval, think it's a 205. If you need polyfilters, I have two.
  3. Makes me wish my 160 was a cube! Maybe on my next project. Whenever that may be!(years from now)
  4. Another great place to check out is bulk reef supply. But the filter guys look like they may have some good stuff. I'm going to have to look into them! If your worried about water channeling, brs may have some similar models. I'm always big on looking several places before I buy something.
  5. I have some tan snails like that, they are fast little guys and have been populating quickly. I have only had some zoanthids die from constant hermit pummeling and face dives into sand. No signs of lost coral since I put it all on a frag rack/puttied them to rocks. I suggest moving it to a part of the tank that has no other corals. If there is something there that is stinging it, hopefully the problem will be fixed for now. At least to show any improvement in the anemones health so then we can "lay blame" on another suspect. Coral can be confusing to diagnose. I preffer moving to another location before we consider flushing something down the toilette, or making a donation to a LFS. As long as your happy with your tank hyper, thats all that matters! I enjoy occasionally feeding my peppermints peices of thawed shrimp. They actually will grab it from my hand sometimes!
  6. Good eye with the mouths. It could be splitting. Mine did. Another picture would help, because it does look like there could be damage to the anemone. As for the shrimp, everyone has their own opinions. Feel free, to cmon by and check out all the little feather dusters I have. I'm thinking about getting some big ones once I am finished with the systems upgrades I am doing. YaitzOfEden Congrats on your shrimp! Maybe some will survive!
  7. Uh oh, that is one that I think I missed. I look forward to hearing how it goes!
  8. I have 5 peppermints in my 160, and 5 anemones with many many mushroom anemones and a clam. Yet, never once had a problem.
  9. In many mature healthy tanks snails spawn. The eggs float around and some will inevitably grow in the sump. Or the pump is in a chamber near a refugium were snails can crawl over the baffles or walls.
  10. Yes if a perfectly sized snail got in there it could do damage. How much? I don't know, my mag 18 probably makes chum of tiny baby snails all the time. It would'nt surprise me if yours did too. I am just not a fan of mechanical filtration. That, and the prefilters lower the gph of the pump. I have never had an issue with snails or anything in mine. But as with anything in this hobby, everyone has their preferences. So if you want to see the difference. Go ahead take it off, then choose for yourself.
  11. I'd PM. Ben at petland seems to have some unique stuff. He even had an all black angler, and some rare anemones. Just search around everyone has somewhat different contacts and may be able to get you different stuff.
  12. That is most likely where the food has collected and is molding over. Sometimes it is just what it likes like. But without a pic we can't really say.
  13. It is surprising! When I started I was shocked at all the stories I heard. I am very careful to not get stung, or if I know I will be I only handle things for a second or two. I believe we need a list of corals/fish and their dangers. Maybe even a top ten. Or a 1-10 scale of sting power. Just something so we can judge just how MUCH you want that pretty little torch coral, lionfish, zoanthid, or anemone. Most of us find out our livestock has this little special ability the hard way. I would like to know before I buy something if it is going to hurt me. I know some sites will list a coral as agressive, and say it can sting coral. But they never mention what it can do to people, or the proper treatment. The more I think about it, the more I realize it is a health hazard. We've already had several of our members have issues. A coulple ended up in the hospital, where the EMT's and doctors could do nothing. It does not make sense to me that they have no information on treatments for this kind of hobby. Sadly one member even sold her enire system because she learned she was allergic. She was so worried that she could be exposed again to whatever was in the tank, that she refused to handle it any more. I am sure if I went through what she did...I would too. Is there something like this already?
  14. Only 10? I've got 5 blue chromis in my 160. Cmon you've got a HUGE tank! Use it! Oh, and FYI all of us that can't get a tank that big will be living through your experience!
  15. Some people are good at covering it. I chose to embrace it! I've heard that there is a 10k bulb with that great color, I really want it lol! Make the whole house glow blue!
  16. I googled it, but wasnt sure what to search. Since we didn't have a type to look up. I checked fish sites, and image searches. But didn't want to take too much time. I made a quick call, there were several small fish out and swimming. One tang out and swimming. But this guys hiding behind anything it can find. The behavior seemed so calm. I got it home, and it was hiding immediately. Then later it was aggressive until my foxface put it in its place with those legendary spines. Almost begging the damsel to bite! Now it's all good. Neon goby is healthy, mandarin gobies are good. All three of those fish are barely 1-1.5". Damsel is pushing 3.5-4". Other than the damsel I've faught and avoided impulse buys. I'd just like to finally be able to get an orange shoulder tang by the end of this week, and I can pretty much close the book on fish stock. Doing research first has really saved a lot of complications. I had opportunities to get several of these great fish, then realized all these little things that won't mix with my system. So its been a challenge staying on course. But it is so worth it!
  17. Lol, I paid a little much for it then. But is huge!
  18. I dont know lol. It was in the coral tank at petland. It was so shy, and looked so good I had to get it. Check the videos out on my 160 tank build link in my signature.
  19. Yikes...but it's so beautiful!!!!
  20. Sounds like a little aquatic "Noahs Ark". As least if this one sinks they should be good!
  21. Those damsels are some nasty little guys...killed about three chromis and a couple of their own... yet I just got this big one at petland. It's a pansy...foxface is king. This damsel is about 3-4" foxface is about 5".
  22. Hmmm, sounds like fun...still wish I had a job like that though!
