  1. What about a serpent star? isn't the reason to have these ugly starfish that you never see to eat dead fish?
  2. Are you growing any ugly brown stuff?? (diatoms) I did nothing but add light for the first two weeks to a month on my setup.... it worked well... like really nothing, no water changes, no chemical removers.. nothing.. The coraline wont all dye, and will grow back Also, you might consider allow some water to evaporate and move your salinity up to 1.025 to 1.027. One of the wamas members recommended that to me, and the coralline really seemed to take off after that... Dont give up yet... I've only done this for about 6 months, but it seems like as long as you stay inside certain parameters, a 20% water change or doing nothing seems to fix most problems.... :P
  3. I'm starting up my second tank, but my first tank (12 gallon) doesn't have ANY problems, so this is the first time I've had worry about this... anyway..... I'm starting up a 34 gallon tank with an Metal halide light (I'm very excited about this) Because I'm on a budget, I bought 40 pounds of live rock got for a great deal... unfortunately, it has those little starfish on it, and now I see green bubble algle. It also doesn't have much coralline on it. So should I treat these pest with a harlequin shrimp and little green crab for the bubble algae, or toss it and get better live rock??? Also, I like the branching look of Tonga rock rather than this clumpy stuff, but I figured when its covered with coral I wont care :P Any suggestions?
  4. I used an 'acyrlic knife' to edge it, then was able to use a wedge screwdriver and hammer to break the edge... alittle of a learning curve, but I dont own a saw, it worked .... :D
  5. Did you cement your rocks? how did you get them to stay like that?
  6. that could be... I'll go ahead and pull it off... so weird though, I've had that frag for over 4 months and just saw the red algae about 2 weeks ago.
  7. yea, sorry, my camera isn't very good. I dont know if its growing, but it doesn't seem to be consuming any other polyps. its the big red thing with the brown center.
  8. Here is the picture
  9. What is this?? is it harmful? I've left it for about a week and it hasn't changed.
  10. I only need 35 pounds, so no on the dried rock.
  11. True... Maybe we should all show up at the same time with our buckets and have a tank brakedown party! The best time for me is Thursday evening... but if I must I could come by late Wednesday night... if I must...
  12. o, and its the live rock in the tank that I want. for 1.50 a pound.
  13. I would like the live rock, sand, and water. I can wait until your fish are gone. Kristen
  14. I went this weekend, they have used equitment at a good price Anyway, from what I gather they are only open on weekends, and just from looking at their shop, I think they have really scaled back.
  15. Where do you buy whole worms, fish eggs, and clams?
  16. I've seen some target mandarins, but no red or blue ones. Targets are selling for 40 to 50 dollars a piece, and the fish stores I've talked to have a waiting list for them (and I'm on it :P)
  17. fantastic!! thanks so much for the replies!! :D and I did mean mm, oops!
  18. My tank has been set up for about 6 months, and the other day I turned on my light late at night while talking to someone about my corals. To my surprise, these little white/clear guys with 6 or so legs scampered under the larger rocks. I've never seen them before. I'll try to get a picture, but it might be difficult. they are basically clear, you can see their guts/rib cage, have approximately 6 legs, are pretty fast, and have black eyes. Most are just 2 cm big, but one was like 5 cm big and appeared more white. They don
  19. I hope it doesn't crawl out and slip inside your bed in the middle of the night....... with that in mind, are you going to flush it now?? :P
