  1. Wow, that just looks like it's ready for failure. Never seent hose before - hope I never do.
  2. Last place I saw that had one in stock was Dr. Macs. But that was this past summer. Give them a call and see.
  3. Took some shots of my Dad's (Ron) tank yesterday. These photos are with the camera on my phone (an HTC Amaze) and auto-corrected. Dogfish!
  4. you need a period between the u and b in youtube for your links to work. But nice videos - your tank looks increadible.
  5. Ryans, looks can supposedly be deceiving. I don't know nor do I understand the exact reasons, but it's been discussed countless times the difference between brince and seawater refractometers. I've never seen/used the Vee Gee one. We typically want our water in such a narrow range I can't imagine mearuing down to zero being of great use. Good luck with your decision!
  6. Can't really see what's going on in the picture clearly, but I've seen misc. bubbles in torches and frogspawn that have not been anything to worry about. My off the cuff response is just leave it.
  7. yeah, I use the DD one. That's what I linked to above. I've checked it against my Dad's refractometer - a DD that's the prior version before the seawater version and there was a little bit of a difference. 3 points if I remember correctly.
  8. I know what you mean. Yours certainly isn't the first catastrophy we've hear of with a new fish addition yet there's some of us that just don't/won't QT. I have resolved to be more inquisitive about how long a fish has been in a system and to ensure / see them eating before I take them home. A friend from here lost a fairly pricely fish recently from a respected local vender - fish came down with a mega case of ich right after being introduced to the tank and was dead the next morning. Not nearly the level of your tank devastation but I think the similar precautions apply. In the end I know I'm more or less rolling the dice with each new addition.
  9. http://www.theaquariumsolution.com/seawater-refractometer That's the one I use. It's the one that's supposed to measure based on seawater - I purchased it from some ebay seller a year or two ago but I believe BRK sells it as well.
  10. Wow, that is absolutely horrible. No lecture on QT here - I've never QT'd anything. I guess I've just been lucky enough to dodge this devastating bullet. Do you think this experience will change your stance on QT at all?
  11. Not what I was thinking at all! Glad you where able to get him out - hope it didn't do too much damage. Sounds like the perfect fish for a FOWLER system.
  12. Looking great! Bring your camera with you next time you're over. Or at least teach me how to get a decent shot!
  13. Never seen one of those - I'll have to go search out some pics now. Can't wait to see it come to life Tom!
  14. I think Steve still has the Lumenarcs for reflectors and Icecap Ballasts.
  15. I've read that there's no sure fire way to sex them. I picked up two random fish and will just hope for the best. Both of them have a body maybe the size of a dime so I'll have a bit before they do anything. At least they seem to be near each other most of the time. Crossing my fingers I got lucky. Good luck!
  16. If a lagoon mode is ever made for two year olds, I'll be the first in line!! Great start so far, looking forward to future updates.
  17. I've always done a mix of hermits and snails, with emphasis on the snails. For snails, right now I have a mix of Dwarf Ceriths, Astraea, Nassarius. Used to have some nerites too but I'm not sure if there's any left at this point. For hermit crabs I just have a handfull of some scarlet reds and regular blues along with a pair of emerals crabs. Oh.. and one red brittle star. I swear those things will live forever! I'm not sure who's doing it but one of the snails is laying eggs every couple days on the glass.
  18. That is so awsome. Would love to see what else you can get him to eat down the road.
  19. Just like Chad said, wait for the algae to show up so they have something to eat. And wait for those nitrites to zero out too.
  20. You're in the middle with Nitrites that high. And I'm sure you'll get some hair algae sooner or later. It seems I've always gone through a "cycle" that takes months to get over. The initial biological cycle is usually over in weeks, but the algae cycles seem to last much longer. It just wouldn't seem right if I didn't have a short bout with hair alage
  21. Check the fine print. I think you can get the free trial, then cancel before the trial is up and still have a basic free account. Try this link for some help with getting it going over the net. This particular link is geared towards getting it going on FIOS, but it should be helpful towards the overal process too. Good luck again!
  22. Get this. It'll save some hair pullling and asking many questions.
  23. That's the yellow watchman gobie. I might try getting a pistol shrimp and putting him back in the display since the starry blenny is gone now. Hopefully no more trips through the plumbing for him
  24. Nice pickup on that pink ric. I've never seen one like that before. Put me in line for a frag
  25. I took the RBTA's out and put them in my frag tank because they moved too much in my system. And the tank is just small enough that they take up too much valuable coral space. Traded one of them off and will just clone them and trade/sell the others. My little tomato clown is in the frag tank with them too. Anyone want to buy an RBTA/Tomoato clown? Somewhere along the line I also lost my Starry Blenny :(
