  1. sooo - does this mean we can change our livestock behavior in >80 vs <80 home aquariums?
  2. BTW - here's a video of my new biocube 29 with what I suspect is an initial hydriod outbreak - you can see them on the glass as the turbo deftly avoids them testing.chesa.com/video/russell/russell.mov
  3. I used to do this 10years ago when my fuge was under a LOA 150w MH always the most popular feeding day was caulerpa day - kinda like pizza day in high school
  4. I have a bunch that grew out shortly after they started to appear as hydroids (starfish-like form) on the glass - those disappeared and I assume they found each other and formed these colonies. I think of them like the barrel-o-monkeys but if they sting my corals they will be past tense.
  5. I have the same and throw an extra biowheel in the frag tank so it's seeded - just add tank water and no dangerous QT cycle.
  6. so my tower of power is really a TOWER OF DEATH!!!!! What do you think about a false-perc vs the mini-nem? I would assume a clown goby might perch and stick
  7. +1 just cause I can't always tell the refractometer's actual line of demarcation
  8. Keep in mind that the MH can be raised/lowered to increase the throw. Not sure I would get a single PAR LED though as it would have even less throw - maybe ok for display but for a frag tank I'd go toward MH, T5, or cheap PC. What corals do you plan to keep?
  9. LOL If you haven't been to the Fox News bureaus -DC or NYC - go - All the men are conservatives (nothing wrong with that) but ALL the women are >8 on the scale. Judgement reserved but irony noted.
  10. I have stackables but prefer my great point & shoot Lumix and a magnifying glass if it's near the tank glass or surface -
  11. Just moved down from Boston - not the least bit afraid of snow - if we really do get 10"+ here's what I'm planning for the weekend -
  12. I buy all my Goldfishies online and pay to have them shipped in from Mexico - I like them with a nice golden tan - not like those pale Japanese ones
  13. If your not seeing growth with Paly's and they have been open and not in too little/much light and the tank parameters are stable try feeding them - I do Hikari Marine S pellets once a week to a few polyps - I don't think it should be needed for these "weeds" though
  14. generally weekly temp, salinity, ph, ALK, & CA/MG when needed others such as Iodine, Phos, etc when needed maybe once a month now what software do you use to log this data? I'm using Maquarium but wish it had an iPhone app - the iPhone apps are POORLY written
  15. I can say I just had an EJ heat up out of water to crazy high temps and after just about burning myself I let it cool off before throwing back in the tank - I don't think I would have thrown it in despite the video showing otherwise.
  16. All of my palys are fast growers - usually 1-2 polyps/month minimum
  17. Anyone have a spare 15g to bring to the meeting - looking to replace my 5g QT with a 15
  18. Just do what I did - quit the hobby for 10years and store your live rock in buckets - then start again and presto - base rock for "free". Thought it would take forever to color back up but 6months in it's almost 50% covered in coralline!
  19. Or all-in-one with built in refugium so there is no chance of sump overflow. That's what I have on 1880's original wood floors.
  20. +1 isn't that what refugiums are for? Frag some macro every little while and if they eat it you can trade it out for another variety.
  21. C. Verticillta? Spelling from memory
  22. I'm actually developing a presentation for Ignite Annapolis on the topic of my crazy fish names. As a friend told me - most of my fish tend to name themselves - most recently my newly introduced 6line wrasse found his way to get completely wedged into a locline output with 12hrs of being in the tank - had to use bone cutters to cut him out of the locline - his name: Harry Houdini.
  23. I've got mine under MH in one tank and PC on another- the MH seems much better for rics vs discos so consider Jan's 70 watt before I ****** it up also ask her about her slicin/dicing routine -she can butterfly rics and wrap em to go The only ric I was looking at slicing jumped off his frag this week on a walkabout - now I have to wait to cut him. Sure you got the stomach for this?
  24. I have both pink and white/blue center and have treated them like daytime versions of Dendronepthea - feeding enriched baby brine/phyto and letting it sit on it for 10-20min. -makes me wish I could close loop the display but in an AIO it's not likely unless I run a pump from chamber 3-1 and another in-display heater.
