  1. If I wanted a fish only tank then I'd do freshwater...
  2. Please understand that when using a Hydrometer you have to adjust your reading to account for water temperature. There are calculators online.
  3. The skimmer has been working great, but I wanted to share an observation since someone else may benefit from reading this. Originally, I had the skimmer on 24x7, but following feeding the skimmer's water level would drop and it would take a few hours before the skimmer would start to pull skimmate. This would cause a build-up of residue in the skimmer chamber after a few days. Thus, I have programmed the skimmer to wait 1.5 hours after feeding and now it immediately starts pulling skimmate.
  4. How many powerheads (and type) are there? What are these outlets you speak of?
  5. Will a litermeter handle that kind of headspace? I've never used one.
  6. We should make a WAMAS calendar with each month's POTM.
  7. Made a scouting trip yesterday and the staff was very friendly. The back of the store was curtained-off, but the lady there said they hope to have the back open again by the end of the month. The fish selection was diverse, healthy, and most importantly reasonably priced. The coral tank had nothing to be desired at the moment. The 600G display tank was still there, but only had a few inhabitants. I did not check any drygood prices, but they had a large display of Brightwell products, pumps, powerheads, etc.
  8. You can borrow mine...PM sent
  9. HeadLoss Calculator http://www.reefcentral.com/calc/hlc2.php Put a valve after your return pump outlet to control the flow if you want.
  10. Thanks for the new desktop background!
  11. And now I would edit your original post and remove your order number...for security sake.
  12. My system neither have metal components nor is pressurized...I take the containter out on a free day, fill it up with RODI and put it back...It is not plumbed to handle any pressure. (I agree to never attempt adding pressure to it, it wasn't designed for it)

Material List: Hang-on Float Valve http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=20412 1/4" Quick Connect Bulkhead http://www.airwaterice.com/product/PR-BU0404/Bulkhead-Union.html Water Container from BRK Aquarium Safe Silicon 1/4" Quick Connect Valve from Home Depot ~$50 NOTE: I am not using the bracket on my sump because I needed to keep my water level lower than it would adjust for my skimmer. I used CA glue and coated magnets to mount to sump wall. Good luck.
  14. I've had the float valve for 1.5 years now...I proactively clean it ~6 months to ensure proper function...I hate surprises I uploaded some pics that can be found here with material list: DIY Gravity-fed ATO

    Cat fish

Yep, our cat enjoys tanning in the 'fake sun' from the halide light.
  19. I prefer gravity-fed top-off using a float switch like this: http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=20412 Don't have to worry about pump failures, power outages, sensors, etc. Just can't allow anything in the sump that would cause the float valve to open up, i.e. snails.
  20. +1 just be patient, if you build it...they will come...
  21. How did you acclimate them? How and what did you feed them?
