  3. I did a phosphate test with a Merck and the readings were .05ppm and the Salifert test showed 0 from the same water sample.
  4. It's been awhile since I have posted on the progress of my tank, and that is because I have been dealing with an algae outbreak (Hair algae). At first I thought it was all because the tank was going through it's cycle and this will slowly go away, but it didn't, it gots worse. So I ordered a Salifert Phosphate test kit and when I did the test, it read 0. I was blown away and took a sample of water to EA and they found it be about 0.05ppm I hooked up with a member from CMAS and he loaned me his Merck test kit and tested my RODI water today, it was 0. I then placed the bag of activated carbon that was in my sump (Made by AquaClear) and it sat in a container of RODI water for 8 hours, tested the water, it was off the scale: 0.14ppm + Now that I have found why the outbreak is so bad, I will be doing water changes every other day untill the phosphate readings are 0. I've also started dosing Brightwell's Phosphate-E and picked up a Sea Hair. If you never used a Merck test kit, vial B is the water from the tank and vial A is the same water from the tank with the test chemicals in it. What you're supposed to do is slide the vials across the chart and when the colors are the same, you read the readings to give you the amount of phosphates. This was about 3 weeks ago Today Today Sea Hair Sea Hair says this is yummy The test results of the carbon This stuff is BAD

  14. I'll be leaving my house around 10am Saturday morning, If anyone wants to hop on from Stevensville, MD (Kent Island) you're more than welcome.
  15. It's about getting all the parameters right and a good bio cycle started before adding live stock. I'm new to this hobby and my algae bloom is probably much worse than someone that has been in this hobby for years.
  16. Listen to him, he speaks the truth. This is my tank after 3 weeks.

  18. WOW....That really came out looking great. I'm new to this hobby and would love to have my tank look like yours in 6 months, what are you dosing and what products are you using?
  19. Looks like you're off to a great start. I've just started my first tank too, so It will fun to watch and see how the tank progresses. I'll be tagging along and keep us updated.
  20. Will you have these at your retail store on Sat.? ((The 3rd) If they don't sellout of course)
  21. I'm not new to photography when it comes to 35mm, but I am new to digital. I have a small digital camera made by Kodak and when I take a pic of my tank, it comes out really blue, but when I'm in the room looking at the tank, there is just a hint of blue. Does anyone know why the camera is picking up so much blue? I've tried every setting on the camera and with the software and still get the blue. Of course the softwhere that came with the camera is not very adjustable for tone.
  22. I don't know if I should laugh or cry.......I'm not looking forward to painting that ceiling.
  23. Well.....I really did it this time. Last night I left the RODI on manual and sometime this morning the sump over filled. I was on a job this morning at 5am and the wifey called screaming in a panic about water coming down through the kitchen ceiling. (Tank is upstairs) I had her check the sump and it was overflowing so I was able to instruct her on how to shut down the RODI and remove some water from the sump. Needless to say I was able to leave work and come home to clean up. I figure no more than 2 gallons drained onto the floor considering how slow the RODI functions. I poked a hole in the center of where the water had the worst damage and found no sitting water or insulation, but there are spots over a large area where water found the drywall seams and nails. My wife has been wanting me to paint the ceiling for the last 2 years, looks like she's going to get it.
